So I know this is kinda late but I wanted to say it was really nice to meet you luplodw and wolfpack!! My mom still thinks its hilarious that we all got excited about SDN lol. Anyways....I'm on pins and needles here in CA! I'm guessing I won't get my letter until tomorrow at the earliest. Congrats to those who have been accepted already!!

It was nice to meet you too!! I really hope you get in. I'm sick of being waitlisted...such a bummer!

And it was sent to my school address

luplodw: I am sorry. I am also sick of being waitlisted...NCSU and Wisconsin. I just want one acceptance! Hopefully everyone will change their minds and we'll get in somewhere!

Right there with you guys! I've been waitlisted at Iowa and Kansas....it's a good thing but at the same time, so mentally/emotionally exhausting. I'm not so okay with the unknown factor. But I'm glad to know I'm not alone 🙂

Hey Instaters/Contract students,

Just got an email from Kaye saying that she sent out interview letters via mail today.

Good luck to everyone!

Are you IS? I have been checking my email religiously and the only message I have received was at the end of Jan stating that interview letters would be sent out mid to late Feb. Just checking because all of this waiting is driving me nuts! :d

Does anyone know if they are sending the letters to our permanent address or our current address?

Unfortunately mine was sent to my permanent address... so it just depends I guess.

I received the same email and I'm a KY resident.
Congrats to those accepted! I hope I'll be your classmate next year 😍

Thank you for the replies. I guess it will just end up where it does. Both addresses are pretty rural so I doubt it will make it today, anyhow. Congrats to those that got accepted 🙂

I'm IS, so I guess this message was only for KY? Are there any IS applicants out there that received this? I'm just trying to figure out their reasoning 😕 because I thought contract and IS interviewed at the same time. Oh well, here's to another week of waiting 😉

i have reached a new low.....i had to leave my house for a doctors appt so i walked to my car and then saw that the mail truck was parked at the end of my block. i then proceeded to wait for 5 minutes in my car, surveying my street, trying to find out where the mailman was. 😎 wow im lame. but now im home and theres no letter from auburn....hopefully tomorrow!

boo, alternate...🙁 unfortunately, I'm not hearing from any of my other school until mid-late March, so I don't even know what my status is there...

Does anyone know how Auburn's alternate status works? I know other schools do rankings, but I wasn't sure if AU did that. It does say that you need to call and confirm that you want an alternate spot, so maybe they don't tell you until then? Just curious, thanks 🙂

And a HUGE:clap: and WAR EAGLE to those who made it! Yay! (So jealous, haha!)

alternate... boo 🙁

I loved Auburn, so even though I have been accepted other places I am kind of disappointed. I still have my IS school and #1 choice to here from in mid-march soooo more waiting. ugh.

I was an alternate and they don't tell you your rank, but they have to call quite a few alternates to fill the spots (just think how many schools you applied to and often OOS students choose their IS school and decline AU). So- don't give up hope yet!
I look forward to meeting all you new class of 2014!! Awesome! Doesn't that look so cool next to your name?! 😀
BTW, I just had my LAST lecture EVER!!! Today was the juniors last day of school, white coat on Monday, 4 finals next week, one the following week, then orientation for clinics, a few days off and BAM! Clinics starting March 8th. Seems surreal! 😍

Congrats sofficat! I know it's been a long and hard road, but you've made it this far. Before you know it, you'll be a dvm. 🙂 Btw, it was nice to meet you too LegallyPink and Sofficat!

Rejected 🙁. I did think that interview could have gone better. Oh well, it would have been hard to justify the cost. Good luck to you guys on the alternate list and congrats to those who were accepted!

Out of curiosity, does anyone happen to know how long approximately the alternate list is? I doubt they'd release that information but I wasn't sure if some lucky SDNer was able to figure it out?

When I was there for my interview, Kaye told me that last year out of the 60 out of state students they interviewed only 2 were rejected after the interview. About 20 were accepted (I can't remember if she said 21 or 22) so assuming they interviewed 60 that would put 38 people on the waitlist. She said that as of April 15th she only had 5 full OOS spots and she went all the way through the waitlist except for the last 4 people on it.

I have no idea about this year, but hopefully it is similar, because those are some pretty good odds 🙂

Thanks for the info! That is very surprising how many people have been taken off the waitlist in the past! If only that happened before April 15th lol (I'm trying to figure out whether or not to submit my UCD Dublin deposit which would need to be done by the end of March). Sigh. Anyway it is all good to know😛 Thanks!!😀

Hey all, Congrats on everyone who got an interview

I received an interview invite yesterday but no I have quite the dilemma on my hands and I wanted your alls opinions.

So Auburn has been my number one since day one but they have scheduled my interview date at a time when I will be out of the country. How can I/ Is there a way that I can convey to them that I have had this trip scheduled for three months without sounding like this interview isn't my most important concern in my life to recent date? I really do want to go to the interview but have already spent a lot of money on this other trip and would prefer to schedule the interview at a later time.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated

Thanks

They are super duper nice, and I'm sure if you tell them what's going on, they'll be more than happy to change your date. Just let them know how important it is to you, and how much you really want to go there. Kaye told me they were really good about accommodating everyone's schedule!

I had the same problem and emailed Kaye last month some time and she scheduled me right in on a day that was best for me. Seemed like it was no big deal.

For those of you who had afternoon interviews, and went on the 11am tour, did you wear your interview attire for that interview?

(or anyone who interviewed already and has a recommendation on this situation, i'd appreciate your response as well) 🙂

Most people didn't wear their suits on the tour that I went on. You should dress nicely though, because they have a dress code. They talk a lot about the dress code on the tour, and if I had been wearing jeans, I knew I would have felt awkward. Just wear khakis or something with comfy clothes.

thanks luplodw. did people return to their hotels to change for the interview or bring their suits with them to campus?

congrats on your UT interview btw!

Thanks!! Well it depends on when your interview is in relation to the tour. Most people didn't have enough time to go back to the hotel (I live in auburn so I ran home and got some lunch). You can totally bring a bag with a change of clothes to the interview. Kaye would hold it for you when you go into your interview and when you go on your tour. There was a lot of time when we were outside, so if it's cold, be sure to bring a coat.

my interview is at 2:30. idk how long the tour is so idk how long i'd have. and i'm not sure what hotel to stay in. since you go to school there do you have any recommendations for hotels closest to the campus?

thanks for all the info!

I had my interview at 2 pm and I knew my nerves would keep me from paying any attention at the 11 am tour, and I wasn't sure how long the interview would take so I didn't go on the 3 pm tour. I chose to go on the 11 am tour the following day and there were two girls wearing their interview attire. They seemed distracted during the tour, and also extremely uncomfortable. It was a lot of walking for someone who isn't used to wearing heels and to top it off, it was raining. Not only were their feet sore for their interview, but their nice outfits were also wet. I would not suggest wearing your interview attire if at all possible. I wore jeans on the tour and did feel a little uncomfortable when they discussed the dress code. There were other people on the tour wearing jeans and considering the weather, it was not that bad. If I had to do over again, I would probably wear something other than jeans, however, they did accept me, jeans and all. 🙂

There really aren't any hotels close to the vet school (since it is separate from the main campus). Tiger Suites is pretty close to the main campus (I have a 10% off coupon for a one night stay if you want it). The Auburn Hotel and Conference Center is nice and close too. Its about a 5 minute drive from either of those places to the vet school and a quick walk to the main campus

the AU hotel and conference center is booked for when i'll be there 🙁

Tiger Suites are pretty big if it's just you staying there.. there are other places that are pretty close. I know they just renovated the Lexington Hotel which is probably the closest hotel there is. You just go to the light right by the hotel, pass over college, take your first left and the vet school is right on the right. I would call them.. I'm sure they have abilities and from what I remember, are not too expensive. 🙂

Oh! And I did not wear my interview attire to the tour because I also live in Auburn.. I will say that I was on Dr. Hendrix's tour and it took us literally 2 hours so I felt like I was rushing to get back to my house (which is only five minutes away), eat lunch and change.. my interview was at 2:30 but we are supposed to get there about 25 minutes early.. That's just me though. And Dr. Hendrix likes to talk. lol.

Anyway.. best of luck to those interviewing! I hope we get to be in class together in the fall 🙂

Riley Roo if you don't mind me asking which day is your interview?

Hey guys, I am new to the forums! I got an interview for March 10th at 8:30 (early). Im so excited, its been my dream since I was a little kid to become a veterinarian! Going to be a busy couple of days for me because I go to Alabama and have class until 3 then a physics test the day after my interview :scared: I'm pretty nervous about my interview... and suggestions from those of you that have had yours already? Oh, and any other University of Alabama students get interviews?

I've found that the more you focus on answering exactly the way they want you to...you end up doing worse. Just talk to them! Have a conversation. Don't make it seem like you are being interrogated. Make it look like you are having a good time (and actually do enjoy it!). Be a little more laid back!

Recieved an interview invitation today!! 😍 So, the hubby was going to text me if a letter came in the mail (I've been in class all day). Well, he instead opens the letter and calls....I'm sure he was excited too, but I wanted to open it! Oh well, I'm still excited! My interview is on the 11th, he still has the letter so I have not seen the time yet. Now I guess I have to go shopping and get my hair cut 😀

I was just wondering if anyone knew the specifics of the Auburn dress code? I live out on a ranch in the middle of nowhere, but I will be driving to Denver soon and was planning on going shopping :bang: for Auburn appropriate attire, since I always just wear jeans. I was informed that jeans are not part of the dress code :nono: , but I saw some students wearing what appeared to be dark jeans, while I was on the tour, so I was curious if there is an exception to the no jean rule. Thanks for the help.

Miss. State gave us a paper that talked about their dress code. I'm sure it's pretty much the same. Here it goes...

Men
Allowed- Shirt: dress shirt with a tie, sweater over dress shirt with no tie, turtlenecks
Pants: Slacks
Shoes: Conservative shoes like walking shoes, loafers, clogs, clean boots, and boat shoes. (socks must cover the ankles and shoes must be closed toe)

Not allowed- Pants: jeans (or any denim including carhartt), sweatpants, exercise pants, shorts, leggings, or spandex.

Women
Allowed- Dresses/skirts: business appropriate, split just above or below the knee, appropriate length
Shirt: blouses, dress shirts, sweaters, tops, and turtlenecks. Spaghetti straps or tank tops can be worn with something over them like a cardigan, blouse, jacket, or dress
Pants: dress slacks (full length or cropped)
Shoes: basically the same as the guys but also including flats, heels, and backless sandals (socks/stockings not required like the men)

Not allowed- Dresses/skirts: mini skirts, skorts, sun dresses, peasant dresses, beach dresses, spaghetti strap dresses
Shirts: tank tops, midriff tops, shirts with anything offensive, haltertops, sweatshirts, t shirts
Pants:jeans or denim of any kind, sweatpants, exercise pants, shorts, leggings, or spandex (no leggings under dresses or skirts!)

two of the vets i work for (both female) went to Auburn and they said they wore khakis and polos everyday and that followed the dress code.

The dress code 'rules' can be found someone on the auburn vet website I think, under some handbook or something... but basically you just want to look nice. Avoid jeans, avoid shorts (although 'walking shorts' are ok according to the handbook... whatever those are). When it's warm I wear dresses... sundresses are even ok (and super comfy!), skirts with tops, etc. When it is cooler (or if you aren't a dress girl) khaki pants or capris with nice tops or collared shirts are fine. We aren't too strict about it, and the most people to give you grief (other than Dr Hendrix 😉) would be your classmates. The guys usually wear shirts with ties, but some don't even bother with the ties all the time. Other dress pants are good too- I have a brown pair, pin stipped black ones, khaki/white/light pink stripped capris, etc.
I'm from Florida so I have a lot of light summer sundress type things and I've never gotten grief from wearing those (everyone just tells me I look very summer-y and Florida-y 😳)
People avoid jeans, although a few times this year a classmate or two will wear 'denims' and justify it by saying they are nice and expensive thus they should be allowed to wear them but overall (blue) jeans of any sort are avoided.
Oh- and carhartt stuff is totally allowed (and encouraged). As long as they are khaki.

So this is probably like the dumbest question ever...but is Auburn's mascot a War Eagle or a Tiger? Everyone keeps saying something about an eagle...but I'm a pretty avid football fan and i know that they always refer to the Auburn tigers. 😕

LOL I asked the exact same question, though I couldn't care less about sports. From what I understand, the official mascot is the tiger, but there's an eagle who flies over the field before games, so "war eage" seems to be a call to action of sorts.

Thanks AspiringDVM 🙂 I think if I went there, I would just walk around campus screaming that one day. So don't be afraid if some idiot is causing a scene...it would just be me. Lol it would be nice to attend a school with a good football team for once.

War Eagle is a battle cry and it is also the name of the fight song.

wolfpack, i know you said you're an avid football fan so yelling "War Eagle!" is kind of like when Alabama yells "Roll Tide!"

Luplodw, it's nice to hear from you. I haven't talked to you in awhile. I hope you do well on your UT interview. 👍

Ok, so my interview is coming up and I had a question. Does anyone know the parking situation? Can I park at the vet school or how does it work? I don't want to get towed haha. And just a question out of curiosity, how many of you guys that applied are juniors?
