We are next people.

How is everyone feeling about the exam now that we have seen a few more MCATs given and the July 24th score?

I am feeling a little optimistic after seeing today's scores but I think that our PS was harder than other people seem to... not good for me.

Is it true that we are applying so late it doesn't really matter what score we get? We are basically competing for wait list spots? Some snotty girl told me this today when I said that I was nervous about my score.

im only working on verbal. i dont think i can learn much more of the sciences, so im just working on my reading comprehension, which should help me out with ps and the bs sections as well. you? as for the ps. im just going over my equation sheets.

honestly I started lookin over PS/BS and now I've completely stopped..I'm not motivated at all..I wish I could push myself

Well I've laid off these boards since Aug. 7th till now... a week and a day. It took me too long to figure out how to sign up for another MCAT [where one has to remove their SSN# to get it to work] so this is my last shot. Just hoping everyone did worse than I (think I) did.

At least I have college football to kill the weekend!

lol. The funny part is that according to the AAMC email someone posted, it doesn't really matter how everyone did in relation to you, just how people in the past did on the same/similar questions.

I was feeling okay about the whole thing until the last few days. Now I'm really anxious. I'm so freaked I did worse than the first time and I'm going to have to re-app next year.

Honestly, Ive been hoping for really great scores, but i'll take any improvement judging from what some other people have been saying. I would imagine that going down on an MCAT the 2nd time around is pretty much saying find another profession?

I was in a really tough spot when deciding to retake. My first score wasn't horrible (32), but it was ~5 points lower than my practice average, and I scored <8 in VR. I had exactly 1 month of study time between getting my first score and taking it on 8/6.

I'm fairly certain that, had I not re-taken, I would have gotten big fat rejections from every school I applied to except for Case Western, who gave me an interview with my first score. Every other school has put me on hold pending the new scores. To make the decision to retake even harder, I had really good science scores that could have easily dropped this time around. To top it all off, I got only about 3 hours of sleep before my retake, and took the test on caffeine and adrenaline. All of this is coming back to me, and freaking me out! Granted, some people have some amazing retake improvement stories (example: SnoPearl, who retook less than 1 month after getting the first score and improved from a 31 to a 41!), but I think those are major exceptions to the rule.

Those two were the hardest VR passages I've ever done. The rest of the passages were okay, but geez... I missed at least 5 of the forest & poli sci Q's (if I was lucky).

Yeah, I'm kind of glad I wasn't the only one. Other people I have talked to said they had to guess on this exam... on the other exam I took this wasn't the case.

That is a consolation...it's good to know that even if I had had time to get to the final questions on torque I still would have had to guess 😕

Yeah I pretty much ran out of time once I hit the torque question. Major guessing there.

I agree..I randomly guessed on at least 6 questions on the PS..the VR and BS I think I did alright on thought..I'm just hopin the curve works out alright...I can't get this stupid exam out of my head..one more week hopefully and thats the last time i'll ever have to think about it again

I guessed on about 10 PS, 6 VR, and 3 BS. On practice tests I usually guess on 3 PS, 1-2 VR, and 1-2 BS.

I was one of the first at my school to get a interview from my pre-med committee (which was in late July... two months after I got all my ducks in row with rec letters). My rec letters, as of yet, have not been sent by my school (at my school this is done after the interview). I'm the same boat as the other three hundred people that got themselves in order at my school early, despite a late MCAT score. Most of the schools I've applied to haven't given interview invites yet either, so I think this is all ok.

The only PS passages I can remember were the meteor one, the eye dropper one, the torque one, and the transition metal one... I can't remember what the other 3 were about. I hope it isn't because I blocked it out because it was so traumatic! Did someone else have the same form as me and can help me remember the last 3?

edit- Blackbody radiation was another. 2 left to remember...

I am slightly peeved at EK because some of the stuff they said just to be familiar with was required knowledge.

I doubt it, but I wish they would. That way there will be less nervous anticipation for the several hours before 5 PM on September 5th. 🙂 I'd rather be unexpectedly hit with my score when I check MCAT THx.

Same here. I had the balancing one, that now that I look back may not have really needed to be balanced after all. 😕 Then I had the crazy torque passage. I felt like I was guessing on a lot of the PS section, I feel sick. Hopefully we all missed those questions.

Yeah, after 2 minutes on that balancing one I decided to guess and then I realized that I had wasted my time and no balancing was needed. I felt prepared on torque but those questions threw me for a loop.

I think the 16th (which I also took) had less SDN people posting about it. But, yeah, this exam isn't as busy as the July 24th or the August 14th or 20th threads.
