I am looking for an in person prep class, specifically anywhere in California to help me prepare for the MCAT. Money is not an issue. I know people say that it is best to self study but I honestly am not the type of person who is good at self studying (people learn best at different ways and I think I do not learn as well on my own). I tend to perform better when I have motivation and/or someone giving me daily work to do, so I think a course would absolutely help me score well on the MCAT. Does anybody know of any good MCAT prep courses in California?

If you're going to go with a course, your choice is going to have to be personal based on your learning style.

Living in California, you may have access to an in-person Exam Kracker course. They do not have a tremendous amount of locations but their in-person classes often receive great reviews.

Good luck

For fear of self-promoting, I will keep this brief. You should take time to make sure whatever you choose to do matches with your style of learning. Berkeley Review is a California-based course that only does MCAT. We have been doing live, classroom-based courses in MCAT preparation for 28 years and have produced some amazing average scores every one of those years. The authors of our well-loved science books still teach the classes themselves. We are a very small company that caps our classes and thereby limits how many students take it (small and personal classes help with the study process), so you will not find many students on line who have taken it. But when you do find one, you should ask them how they scored and if they got utility out of the strategies and mnemonics. If you have any questions about the course, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Do self-study. Use the money to buy different resources and stick to a study schedule; keep yourself accountable. This way you can focus on weak areas and maximize your study time. I think you should try to change your mindset in terms of not being able to learn on your own. Sounds like an intrinsic motivational issue. Med school is mostly learning on your own so best to nip that now. Also, there is a benefit in using different resources because nothing will compare to AAMC material, which you will have to tackle on your own anyway. I liked EK books for quick content review, plus KA; and again, AAMC is gold. Buy it all and do it all multiple times, stick with just AAMC the month or two before the test, especially for CARS.
