I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I was wondering what month is the best time to apply. I want to apply for the 2019 cycle. The deadline for most schools is November, but I'm assuming that would be way to late to apply. Wondering, so I can plan my coursework and MCAT date accordingly. By the way, I'm California resident at a UC school.

Thanks!!

If you apply on day 1 the first week of June, it often takes a few hours for your transcript to be certified. If you apply a week later, it might take 1-2 weeks. But both applications will be transmitted to med schools at the same time during the last week of June, if they are complete with MCAT score, and neither will have an advantage over the other.

In short, apply as early as possible. Most schools run on a rolling admissions basis, so if you wait too late you might not get an interview just because your school of interest already has enough qualified applicants. Assuming you have your grades and MCAT ready, there's no real benefit to waiting for some magic moment later in the application process.

glad you're really turning things around and looking to start early "procrastinatingpremed":wacky:

For MD schools: June 1 to Labor Day
For DO schools: June 1 to Dec 1.

In reality, the best time to apply is when you have the best possible app, in the constraints of the above.

^^^ Agreed. I took an extra couple of months to get my app polished and submitted most secondaries in late August/September and still was fine. Granted, I should have been more prepared because sooner is generally better but it isn't an end all be all.
