Eggs

IMG_4141.jpeg

Hey @anonperson didn’t Trump say grocery and egg prices would go down in the first day or week of his presidency? While Biden was president the price of eggs (along with his policies) was a major issue for you. You posted about it routinely. Since Trump was voted in you seemingly no longer care. It’s almost as if because you agree with Trump policies you’re willing to accept pain in other areas of your life (I.e. finances, cost of groceries, etc.). What gives?

Put another way, while you can applaud the deportations and the tariffs, you should hold your guy accountable for what he isn’t doing. What’s the Trump admin doing on grocery prices? This is a major issue for many Americans.

If your post involves a ‘Well during the Biden admin….’, then just stop. Inflation was absolutely a problem during the Biden years.

Eggsactly right!

To anyone in medicine it is obvious that no one who could hack it drops out from residency in the penultimate year.

However, the attitude she takes of the conspiracy to keep us sick is not necessarily worth dismissing.

Here’s my argument that the government doesn’t do enough to protect Americans from ill health: are we getting healthier, or sicker in the past 40 years?

I don’t really care who’s responsible for the failures of our current fda and usda, but I think it’s worth sacrificing a lot to just have someone talking about those failures now.

If you ask any other surgeon general in our history they’ll tell you lies about “we do everything we can to ensure continued health of the American people! Status quo is going great!”

Again: are we getting healthier, or sicker? Doesn’t matter the reason. The governments job is to protect and prevent us from getting sicker, and that includes (according to liberals) infringing on some level of personal autonomy to make it happen.

We're really supporting social media naturopaths and pseudoscience now? This is a new low. I don't understand how anyone with a medical background listens to her talking about how she never learned anything about "why patients become sick" in medical school and doesn't recognize that she's a predatory quack. The reasons why Americans' health sucks have been studied constantly and are pretty clear: Americans do not care at all about a healthy diet or lifestyle no matter what. If everyone followed USDA guidelines, we'd be a lot healthier but you can't stop the average American from eating another cheeseburger. That and environmental factors which Trump is also magnifying 100x by dismantling the EPA.

Frankly, her being another antivaxxer should immediately prove that she has no interest in improving people's health and will actively lie and hurt children for personal profit.

What are you even talking about? Every surgeon general has talked about national problems and started campaigns to improve public health. The former surgeon general already led a campaign to improve healthy eating and exercise. Likewise, where have you been if you haven't heard any criticism of the FDA or USDA until now? Though again, they're far from the root cause for poor health. But all of this has been constantly studied and debated (and often stonewalled or actively dismantled by the Trump admin, like when he illegally cancelled millions of dollars worth of fresh food Congress had directed for schools). The idea that things are going to get better by putting antivaxxers and science deniers in charge is insane.

Let’s start by asking ourselves a couple questions. What is making us ‘sicker’? What leads to that sickness? Why is it the governments job to make us healthy? I find it weird people feel the government should have any dominion whatsoever as to what makes us sick or what makes us healthy. Should they gather information, discern fact from opinion, and make it known to citizens? I can get on board with that. But I’m not sure about much more.

One last question - why do we even need a surgeon general? Why not save taxpayers the money if we’re making things more effiicient?

I haven’t heard of any plan from any politician to address obesity and diabetes in the USA that has a chance of working. If they are implementing any plans then I am unimpressed.

This chart should say “we know this is bad, but that’s your choice. At least we know, you’re welcome!”

And what plan have you heard from RFK and Means that's so much better? What plan would you like to enact? Anyone with any medical background has seen countless patients that refuse to make any changes to their diet and lifestyle no matter how bad their health is and how much their doctor begs them. But I'd love to hear how an antivaxxer is going to magically change that.

They aren’t.

The antivaxxer vitamin grift industrial complex is the same as any authoritarian playbook: create a problem and then declare only I can fix it.

They want to totally break our food and medical systems and then say “only my vitamins can fix it”.

And you’re criticizing the same thing now?

I agree, the aging republican establishment of the Obama era is horrendous. That’s why they’re being slowly replaced with younger populists. Same goes for liberals of that era.

Disingenuous ploys to claim they are “fixing the issue” and then hawking vitamins and making us sicker while gaslighting us is the same thing naturopaths do.

Attack Food additives. Ultra processed foods. -> great. All for it. Let’s get our food standards to Europe levels.

Attack “vaccines” as “toxins” and attacking the childhood vaccination schedule and completely destroying the usda and fda from fulfilling the mandate to protect us from a repeat of The Jungle.-> Not something I can get behind.

No one is criticizing that now. What they are criticizing is the elevation of the most blatant psuedomedical hucksters to the top levels of our government health care representation.

Uh huh, sure. Just remember my opinions and the “MAGA” (whatever that means) base are the majority opinion in the USA.

You keep on throwing puberty blockers at children and mutilating people’s genitals though, and calling standardized testing racist. Always a good laugh from “the science” folks.

FYI if the election were held again today democrats would still lose. I guess democracy doesn’t work 🤷‍♂️

I've never claimed Trump was a savior.

I have always been consistent that all politicians are dirt bags and I voted on a few specific issues. I'm not interested in purity politics. I want someone who will do the things I want but understand that

Economy/inflation was one. Current situation isn't ideal but I have a 20+ year retirement horizon so I will wait it out.

Stopping illegal border crossing. That's been successful

Preventing a liberal Supreme court. I've said numerous times that the Grants pass decision has been a huge benefit on the day to day life of regular citizens. Can finally use legal force to get a handle on vagrants.

I do know that voting on Kamala was going to result in more open borders and more liberal judges and possibly Supreme Court depending on what some of these old justices do.

The current situation is far from perfect but when you only have 2 viable candidates, this is what we get.

Are you saying that you are ok with corrupt politicians in general? or you are ok with Trump being corrupt?

Hunter BIden?

I literally just pointed out how this isn't even close to true along with other posters. You always have to keep running back to the same lies and misinformation.

They are all corrupt to some degree.

Why else would they be politicians? Republican, Democrat etc. Doesn't matter. They're all trying to extract secondary gains for themselves.

I'll tolerate it as long as my day to day life isn't impacted too greatly. If it is, on to the next politician.

Typical MAGA statement.

Translation: 'Now I am ok with it if my guy is the one doing it.'

Lol.

I'm just an adult who lives in the real world.

Democrats will excuse some level of corruption to protect their candidates. I see it everyday in California politics. Karen Bass, Gavin Newsom etc.
Only when Trump (and republicans) are in power. Got it.

Don't even bother man. That guy has his nose so far up this admin's dingus, he could perform an ercp with his tongue.
This mixed metaphor analogy is a mess for several reasons…

-dingus, in an anatomical context, usually means penis. The analogy is typically a nose being up someone’s butt.
-an ERCP is done from an esophageal approach, no where near the butt…or the dingus (penis). The urinary tract has no access to the bile and pancreatic ducts and an ERCP would not be accessible through this route.
-the tongue does not exit the nose and advancing the nose further into any anatomical crevice does not provide access for the tongue to perform any super-lingual activities.
-the tongue is too large to navigate the narrow opening of the sphincter of Oddi.
-there’s no way CMS would reimburse for this and no insurance company would provide the needed pre authorization.

But, as a way of going against the medical establishment/bit-pharma status quo, does MAHA support this new approach?

Unfortunately RFK is not taking us in a direction to make us healthy again but he is making people more vulnerable to charlatans. He’s not moving to protect the population. He disregards actual experts and relies on his own strongly held beliefs.

Alright that was pretty funny. I have no idea why autocorrect corrected a**hole to dingus.

And maybe it's just the way I'm reading your post, but I swear to God, you must be channelling Ben Shapiro.

What are you even talking about? That is straight out of the MAGA playbook. No credible person is medicine refers to gender-affirming care as genital mutilation. This is another example of inventing a problem that doesn't exist. Bottom surgery on those under 18 is virtually unheard of. Virtually all clinics and providers in the US will not do bottom surgery on someone under 18. Again, it's a problem that doesn't exist. MAGA is playing on people's fears, and it works.

A limited number of top surgeries, between ages 15 and 17, occur annually. Even this is very rare. There simply is not a significant number of transgender minors undergoing any type of surgical intervention, even in states that don't restrict such procedures through legislation.

We can debate the use of puberty blockers among teenagers. As someone who's transgender, I have mixed feelings about that. The safety data in this population is limited and the UK NHS recently did a reverse course in their policy. On the other hand, these are not new drugs. They are used in precocious puberty. We are familiar with their effects. Should they be prescribed for transgender children? I don't know. I think thorough informed consent is important, as well as routine monitoring of bone density. I feel this could better be addressed through professional society guidelines than government intervention. I also wonder if insurance is routinely paying for these meds in minors. These meds are over a thousand dollars a month out of pocket. It's not financially viable for most people. Again, something that's not common.

A 2024 study shows that the net effect of the state laws restricting transgender care among the youth has led to an increase in suicide attempts. The data confirms what we in this community already knew. I don't think increased suicide attempts is an intentional consequence of these laws, but when laws are passed based on religious beliefs and fears instead of science, there will be unintended consequences.

My state recently passed a law preventing mental health professionals (MHP) from diagnosing and treating gender dysphoria in minors unless there is no other comorbid mental health diagnosis. Because gender dysphoria rarely exists in isolation, this effectively bars treating most minors with gender dysphoria with something as basic as therapy. The law goes as far as labeling using a child's preferred gender pronouns as a "gender-affirming procedure."

The same law permits a person to sue their MHP for any harm that comes from the use of gender affirming pronouns over a decade after the care occurred. Now harm from the use of pronouns would be almost impossible to prove in a court of law. Then intention of that clause in the law is to strike fear in MHPs so that they stop using preferred pronouns. This intended effect of this law is to prevent even basic mental health care in transgender youth, which is harmful and counterproductive.

Do we really want the government being able to restrict care to this degree? What is the obsession of the Republican party with someone's genitals and why does someone declaring a gender other than their birth sex cause so much fear or concern among conservatives?

By far the most common form of genital mutilization in minors is circumcision. For arbitrary cultural reasons, it never gets any headlines or MAGA attention.

Drugs are the answer. Maybe Trump will make a deal to make GLP-1s in bulk in the USA and pass them out as part of his national healthcare plan.

Our local university was removing gallbladders through the vagina for a while.

I have done trans-V lap appys before in residency. Definitely a waste of F-ing time and resources with a much higher risk in potential complications. They were also doing trans V gall bladders but I heard of one person who developed some sort of fistula and they stopped.

"In a striking move that ends a nearly four-decades-old relationship between the federal government and the Episcopal Church, the denomination announced on Monday (May 12) that it is terminating its partnership with the government to resettle refugees, citing moral opposition to resettling white Afrikaners from South Africa who have been classified as refugees by President Donald Trump’s administration.

In a letter sent to members of the church, the Most Rev. Sean W. Rowe — the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church — said that two weeks ago the government “informed Episcopal Migration Ministries that under the terms of our federal grant, we are expected to resettle white Afrikaners from South Africa whom the U.S. government has classified as refugees.”

The request, Rowe said, crossed a moral line for the Episcopal Church, which is part of the global Anglican Communion that boasts among its leaders the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a celebrated and vocal opponent of apartheid in South Africa."
