c/o 2018 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
One of my recommenders that I was super worried about submitted his LOR today! I'm so relieved. I had serious doubts that he would make the deadline. 5 down, 1 to go!

The bottom line is that the VMCAS requires that you post ALL tests that you have taken and the scores you received... yes, you may choose to omit information, but that is on you and is a good way to get yourself rejected should the schools find out that you weren't honest on the application form. (At least this is how it was when I was applying, rather certain this has not changed.) Granted, the school may only look at your best score... or create a composite score... but it is still required to be one the application regardless.[/QUOTE]

I submitted VMCAS on Aug 27th and posted the one GRE score I had. I retook the GRE on Sept 10th. So I did post all test scores I had at the time of submission since I submitted before retaking.

Oops, that first paragraph is a quote. My reply is below. 🙂

Yes, but there are also rules on the VMCAS that you are to update the school with anything additional. That would include GRE scores.. I am also going to assume you knew you were retaking the GRE when you submitted VMCAS. Also, there is a chance your score report could show you took a test on Sept. 10th...

Yes, maybe the rules have changed, but I sure wouldn't want to take any chances... that is a lot of money to spend just to omit one minor thing.

Anyway, it isn't my application, but I would not recommend it. School finds out you were omitting info... they may reject you.

ETA: It is an ethics thing... the school may not care about that second set of scores BUT they do care if you are honest with information... and it is a HUGE thing in vet school too. Once you are a vet.. your signature is saying that you are signing everything as truth, honest and utmost professionalism... if you can't do that on the vet school APPLICATION... then why would they think you would be honest as a vet?

I retook it the 10th as well. I had already submitted my VMCAS, but had not submitted my GRE scores. Even though I didn't do as well as I had hoped, I still submitted each and every score from each time I had taken it, just as a precaution. I'm pretty sure a few schools explicitly say they want all scores listed.

I did it for a few reasons: I wanted to put all my chips on the table - let them see the whole shebang - and hope that other areas of my application may make up for a lack of exceptional test scores. I also was unsure of whether it was some type of application faux pas/kiss of death, so I erred on the side of caution.

This is not an ethics debate. I actually just spoke with Oregon and they said it's completely up to me which scores I send, they only look at the best score. They only need one score from ETS. This is exactly the point in being able to select which score you can send from ETS. Sending your best score is not being dishonest, especially when the schools you apply to give instructions saying that they only require one, and you can choose whichever score to send.
I will contact each school to make sure they follow suit, I'm pretty sure they will.
Of course I would not want to be deceiving or dishonest, but that implies I'm lying, which I am not. If any schools want my second score I'd gladly send it, but since it hasn't even posted yet, and may not by October 1st, I am sending the score report I do have since schools require one score by then. I can't wait until after October 1 to send the score, schools require them by then.
Now, lets end this implication that I'm a dishonest person 🙄

Wow, now you really read that post incorrectly.

When I applied, VMCAS required that you submit/report ALL GRE scores no matter what.. it has been like that for years, maybe it has changed. I don't know. BUT, if it hasn't then yes, all scores must be recorded on VMCAS up to a specific date... the prompt would say what date. Chances are September 10th is outside that date, but the original poster that asked about this wasn't you and that person took the test in August.. that score would probably need to be added AND one of the schools is already asking for it, so you coming on here and saying it is not necessary does not help. The comment wasn't originally directed at you; it was meant for iheartdogs who has a different situation than you do.

Also, when I ordered my GRE scores (I took it 3 times) you could NOT pick which ones you wanted... all of them would be sent from the exams taken within a specific time frame (I think it was 5 years).

Could both of the above have changed in 2 years, yes. It is possible.

Again, some schools may not give a crap, other schools will. I still say send them all, as that is what VMCAS required back when I applied AND some schools still do ask for every GRE score and some schools will actually do a composite score. Basically, you can't really hurt yourself by sending all of your scores. It would do more harm to not send them because there is that chance that a school may have wanted them and you didn't send them.

I never said you were a dishonest person. I am saying that is one of the things the schools will look at. If you can read directions and follow them. Also, the school IS asking iheartdogs for that test score.. so yes, erring on the side of caution and sending all your GRE scores is probably a good idea. But what do I know? I only applied via VMCAS 3 times...

I absolutely value your insight as someone who has done the VMCAS thing 3 times. I completely agree that if you have multiple scores from before submitting the application, then yes, you should absolutely enter them on VMCAS because it asks for all scores.
Sorry, I got my feathers all ruffled, but when you replied to me and mentioned being dishonest on applications, I got kinda upset at that. I take that kind of thing very seriously. I understand now that wasn't your intention, but sometimes it can be kinda hard to understand intentions through forum posts/email, etc.😳
I was in panic mode when I thought that I'd have to spend more money sending a second score when it finally posts (and doesn't help my cause), after I had already send my first score, ha! I'm already broke.

This thread is making me a bit nervous. :scared:

I took my GRE for the first time on Aug. 12 and was able to post my scores on my VMCAS application before I submitted it on September 3rd. ETS submitted my scores to Western on August 21. Due to my unhappiness with my first score, I mentioned on my application that I had a second GRE test planned for September 16th. Unfortunately, my test score the second time was ONE point less than my first time. :annoyed: Due to this, I chose not to send my second set of scores.

Now I'm worried since the deadline to submit GRE scores is Oct. 15. Was I wrong to not submit the second set of scores? I'm planning on calling Western tomorrow just to double check, but I'm hoping someone has some input/advice. I'd greatly appreciate it.

No big deal! Didn't want you to think I was implying you are dishonest... definitely don't think that, just want to be sure there is accurate information out there... and still have people aware that it has been 2 years since I have seen VMCAS (thankfully) so what I remember could have changed. Applications make you crazy and I definitely understand the no money thing after applying so much. 🙂

If it were me, I would err on the side of caution...Plus it's only one point. I highly doubt that one point is going to affect your chances of getting into vet school... But if you're financially limited, just call/email the schools you're applying to.

I say your best bet is to call and ask, but I have a feeling that since you mentioned it on your VMCAS application, they will be looking for those scores, unfortunately. Honestly, I would not worry... retaking the GRE shows that you have a certain amount of determination and that you are trying... you care, you want to put your best foot forward, but sometimes thinks don't go as planned. The schools will still look at your best score. I especially would not worry about one point. Anyway, take a deep breath... relax and call them tomorrow and see what they say. 🙂

But did you mention all in your VMCAS? I didn't send my scores from 4 years ago to 2 schools although I mentioned all on VMCAS. My 4 free schools got all. I'm gonna call those 2 schools tomorrow and double-check if they want them or not. Hopefully not cause that'll be $50 more :banghead:

I can't remember if I posted them on my VMCAS. I want to say I did not, but I really can't remember.

So far, two of the schools I contacted said that sending only your best score was fine. That being said, when I submitted my VMCAS application, I had only taken the GRE once, and I also did not say that I was planning on taking it again, b/c I wasn't sure when I was, and I hadn't totally decided that I was going to. Really, the best rule as others have said, if in doubt, contact the schools directly 🙂

Just got off the phone with my 2 schools in question and they do NOT need my scores from 4 years ago :soexcited: That $50 is mine...mine! 😀

eta: upenn said that they like to see that applicants have taken the gre more than once, fyi

Well, I finally submitted my application. I'm still waiting on 2 eLORs, but at least 3 are completed (and one is from a vet). I've also completed most of the supplemental applications for the 11 (!!) schools I applied to. Just finishing up on some short essay questions for Cornell, Oregon, and Western. Almost done!

I retook the GRE and am reapplying to Tennessee, along with other schools. I do know from meeting with the dean that Tennessee will take your most recent GRE test taken, so unfortunately you cannot pick and choose with that school

To go along with which GRE scores question, I took it twice and entered both sets of scores on VMCAS. However, I only sent the better 2nd round of scores to schools (with the exception of my 4 free ones which I think have both sets). I applied to SGU and was contacted last week asking me to send them the first scores, officially, even though they were lower and still listed on VMCAS. It wasn't a problem, so I sent them the next day. Hopefully other schools will let me know if they want the older scores as well.

On a different note, I just got an interview invite from SGU for the Fall 2014 class!!! The interview's in 2 weeks! I was very surprised to hear so soon after the GRE situation.

Good luck everyone!

OMG. Congrats on your interview invite! 🙂 (And good luck!)

An interview offer already? Before the October 2nd deadline? I didn't think that was possible...haha. All the best to you! Two weeks doesn't seem like a lot of time

I got an interview invite from Western so I guess some schools are starting interviews already (huge surprise to me!)

I submitted my application on the 19th and today they said that it has been verified and will be sent out in the next batch so it doesnt sound like their taking that long to do still. Anyone know if that mean my last evaluator that hasnt submitted yet will be left out or will they send that one seperatly as soon as its in?

They told me with my app that they would send out an update to the application once the additional evaluations are submitted. It looks like they have done it since Cornell says that they have received my last eval (the eval that I was waiting for after I had already submitted my app). I think you will be fine as long as your evaluator sends it in before the deadline.

Thats relieving, thanks. Congrats to those who have interviews. I went to SGU for the foundation program but didnt pass it but everyone in the vet program loved it and the area is great.

Wow, seriously? Their supplemental app isn't even due until Oct. 15th.

I turned mine in last week. Im not quite sure how it works but based on info from previous threads I think it just depends on what stack it ends up in and how fast they process it. I guess it just shows that it can't hurt to turn it in early! I'm a little bit nervous that it could have been a fluke but I hope not 🙂

I submitted my VMCAS on Tues (9/24), and it's already verified! I wonder if they have extra staff now that the deadline is so close.

@mdpa01079: Thanks for the info, and best of luck! I doubt the interview invite was a fluke!

I received one as well and was also nervous it was a fluke!! Glad to hear someone else got one too! 😀

Submitted!!!:hardy::hardy:
(well Michigan state hasn't sent out their supplementals yet...but...)
I'm so excited for some free time! Also known as time to catch up on everything else I've been ignoring, like classes.

Congrats to everyone!!!😀

Man... I don't know if I'm going to get any sleep tonight haha

Yeah... that sound about right.

Congratulations and Good Luck Everyone.

(PS. Does anyone else feel like the applying to vet school is like the hunger games? May the odds be ever in your favor)

We are just over 4 hours away from the deadline and I'm having a severe case of maybe-I-should-apply-to-a-couple-more-schools-itis. Is this a common affliction? 😳

I won't because 1) I chose my schools methodically and purposefully, and 2) I can't afford any more applications.

😱

Good luck to everyone! May the odds be ever in your favor 😉

Just a fun fact, the only school I ended up getting accepted to was the one I added at the last second 😀
I also could not afford to apply to more schools but I ended up switching out one school for another right before I submitted...crazy how those things work out!

Shut up! LoL That's awesome! I did add one school two weeks after I submitted VMCAS because someone said something and I took it as a "sign". We shall see!

If you can afford it, it can't hurt! It's funny how superstitious vet med can be sometimes. Good luck 🙂

Yeah I definitely ended up adding in one last one today haha!

Ahhhh can't believe it's submitted and in, I feel like my fingers are twitching with the need to pull it back up and proofread it again, hope I didn't leave any silly mistakes in there!

And goooood luck everyone!!!!!

My third LoR writer submitted at 12:58. 😱
Glad that's over...

Just got a call from a wrong number in a state I'm applying to a school in and my heart and stomach did things I never knew they could 😛 Is this how it's seriously gonna be for the next few months? Hahaha

Yes.

I kept getting a call from a solicitor for a cruise company that was based out of Washington and I had applied to WSU and was waitlisted at the time. I would get really excited answer the call and then get instantly disappointed.

Does anyone know how strict UC davis is with the PPI evaluation deadline? I submitted mine on Sept 30, and just realized it takes 4 days for ETS to send it electronically. I know Colorado is flexible, as long as you have it in by this week. But what about Davis?? Thanks!!

Please tell me that only certain schools need a PPI. Please.

Oh, that sucks! Hahahaha

Oh, thank goodness. All day I've been running through my apps in my head feeling like maybe I missed something.
