Hi everybody! Canadian thinking about doing Internal Med training in the States. I want to enter the MSM match after my 3 years in the USA. Does anybody know the difficulty of matching a specialty in the CaRMS MSM as an IM resident from the States?

Its not common but it can be done. I personally know 3: two critical care and one med onc who did IM residencies in the US followed by fellowships in Canada. Regarding competitiveness, you should take a look at the match statistics on the CaRMS website that are similar to the NRMP charting outcomes. as a general rule, anything medicine related is more competitive in Canada than the US.

Would depend on several factors. If USMD probably a good chance. If DO or IMG probably a lower chance. They look more at letters, extracurriculars and research. They don't have the volume that US schools get so there are no filters for scores which can be good or bad. Audition rotations are a must, though not sure how this has changed in the era of covid.
