Hey guys!
Super early but has anyone been able to register (registration opened today), I cant see anywhere on the site where they have a link to the registration.

Thank you!

Hi all,

A couple OMFS residents at my school suggested taking the Feb exam just to get a feel for now the exam is, regardless of how prepared I feel for it. Does anyone think this is a good idea?

UWorld + Pathoma + First Aid + Sketchy (first go at the CBSE) ?
+ as many NBME’s as you possibly can! Those are gonna prep you best for NBME type q’s

I did it this past August (before my D2 started). Didn’t even finish first aid and only really had micro memorized and I have no regrets. Bombed it, but I’m happy I experienced it with the pressure and all. At the end of the day, $300 is a few hours of work as an OS and I think it’s worth it to get the experience. But that’s just me

Attached is an image from my CBSE review post listing scores for each and when I took the exams. I personally liked UWorld questions much more - they give lots of background and oftentimes hints. NMBE questions are short and to the point - do you know the fact or not. NBME practice exams modeled the exam extremely well, so I'd recommend you do as many as possible if you have the time. The practice exams do a good job of nailing you in your weak subjects, so it helps for studying too. I'd recommend looking up explanations to the answers even if it's time consuming. NBME 18 is regarded as "the best" by medical students.

when are we able to book our testing site seat?

I got an email with a link to my Scheduling Permit at the end of April after I registered in February for the August exam. As soon as you have that you can go to Prometric's website and set an appointment, but of course there will only be one day and time available to choose.

anyone got any last minute high yield material? haha

Rapid review back of FA and goljan high yield if you know the material well enough. Some material is outdated. Then definitely focus on your weak spots. Mine are GI and endocrine so I’ll hit that hard this week

Since you did all the new NBMEs, how did you think they compared to the CBSE in terms of difficulty?

Difficulty in terms of scores or feelings? I scored much better on the CBSE than the NBMEs (about 10-15 points higher than my average). In terms of feelings, I always felt terrible taking the NBMEs. They made me feel pathetic with the amount of things I simply did not know or didn't remember. I was always scared to see my score at the end. At multiple points I thought maybe I should re-schedule my exam, but then the score would pop up and it wasn't so bad. The real deal CBSE felt much smoother! Not like UWSA1, but close to UWSA2. If you read through the August 17th CBSE thread, many felt the same way.

Good luck everyone!
Don’t underestimate the power of first aid! Take a look to hammer in as many facts as possible even the small details. There’s a reason why nearly every student uses first aid! I did this for the last 2.5 weeks right before my CBSE.

Weren't you averaging high 70's-low 80's on NBMEs?? That's a real good jump for the real thing lol, congrats! Do you still recommend taking UWSA1 even though UWSA2 is more predictive?

Has anyone done free the Free 120? Kinda want a heads up on what to expect in terms of difficulty before I begin

Yes. Still a good exam, was just a very easy exam.

Anyone think it's worth it to review our NBMEs again, or would that time be better spent hammering FA?

The last couple days before my CBSE I hammered in a couple things:

- The high yield tables at the end of FA
- Biochem section of FA (genetics stuff also, metabolic diseases etc. just stuff you can memorize that you've been putting off)
- Reviewed all of Sketchy pharm/Micro (I had printed off slides with what each picture stood for)

This really helped me a ton and felt like I got a lot right because of it.

Has anyone ever done worse on the CBSE than their NBME average, or is consistently the same or better?

I keep seeing on here people do better, hopefully that’s the same for us haha

Def be mentally prepared to get rocked so keep your cool and go with most obvious and what you know in this case.
but also be prepared for an seemingly easy exam and in this case pay very close attention to the wording knowing curve is probably tighter and they’ll try to get people with dirty tricks.
Seems to go one way or another with these NBME’S. I swear part of this exam is mental and how you approach the Questions....taking a step back sometimes and asking yourself w hat are they really asking. Going with your first instinct but only if you read the question carefully. Cause the q’s are intentionally tricky may times

Not to bring the mood down bc Im sure we will all score well this time. But is the registration for the August exam now done by SNAIL MAIL?
Also, they said that they are limiting the amount of times to 6???

Thanks for the advice, definitely know what you mean. Hopefully everything goes smoothly the day of for all of us

This is gonna be my first time taking it but I definitely feel like 6 attempts is more than enough to get a good score

Just took NBME 24... any clue how people’s scores on that compared to the real deal? There were very few “gimme” questions I feel.
