No, there isn't any separate ranking for CCLCM. Even after our first class graduates in 2009, we still won't have an independent ranking. We are part of Case, so we're ranked wherever Case is ranked. If it is really important to you to attend a school that has a top ten or top twenty ranking, this might not be the best program for you. We're kind of an untraditional program. 🙂
Yes, but the students still have to enter the mainstream after the program is over, and have to compete with the "traditional" applicants, so recognition is important - maybe not as a US News and World Report ranking, but within the community of residency directors, etc. I am sure that Cleveland Clinic will definitely be able to absorb all the graduates, but that might not be what the student is looking for. This question probably can't be answered till 2009 and beyond.

Has anybody who interviewed in February received any status notification through snail mail? I interviewed at the end of february and I don't even know if I have been placed on hold, rejected, or waitlisted. They told us 3-4 weeks and it has been over 4 weeks now. It appears from earlier posts in this thread that many decisions will have to wait until April 15th. Is this when I should be expecting something?

i am in the EXACT same boat as you. i even called at the 4 wk mark last week to ask them and they wrote down my number and said they'd get back to me (and never did). If we will hear post-April 15th, I wish they would have told us that from the get-go. They certainly made it sound like there was still space for an outright acceptance and a chance to attend their second look. Now that appears that wasn't the case at all. I am losing hope.

Yea, guys, so I look at it this way: A waitlist is defined as a list of people who, while not undesired enough to encourage an immediate rejection, still don't have what it takes given the number of spots in the medical school class and the other more successful applicants. At this point, since the class is full, I think that's exactly what we're on. Waitlists can continue to be reviewed and later accepted from or rejected off of, but it's ultimately a waitlist if you're sitting around knowing the class is full and that you didn't make the initial cut (even if that's because of a late interview in my opinion). If only Cleveland Clinic had the consideration to call it like it is and let us know already.

sorry if this was answered already but on the hold letter it stated we would know by mid-April what our status was...that includes continued hold, accepted, and perhaps rejected?
My understanding is that after April 15, you will either be accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. At this point, all of the interviews and committee meetings are completed, so there isn't any need to continue leaving people on hold.

I understand what you're saying, and I don't think there is anyone in the medical field who hasn't heard of the Cleveland Clinic. 😉 So I really doubt that we're all going to have to do our residencies at CCF (although I don't think that staying here for residency would be the worst thing in the world.) But that's a different issue than us having a USNWR ranking. If people want to go to a USNWR top ranked school, they aren't going to find ours on the USNWR list except for as part of Case. Some people might be bothered by going to a school that isn't going to have its own USNWR ranking, so I just want to make sure people understand that CCLCM is part of Case and there is not any separate ranking.

I guess all I can tell you in answer to your question is that this is a new program, and that has both upsides and downsides. On one hand, it is really exciting and fun to be trailblazers in a brand new program. But on the other hand, as you're pointing out, that means there is no track record for our graduates. The onus is on us to make that track record a good one. If you're a really risk-averse person, that could understandably make you pretty uncomfortable. But, at least you guys have the benefit of knowing that the first class did well on the boards before you applied--last year, we didn't even have that. 😛

I am sorry, but I can't tell you when you will hear. What I can tell you is that Dean Franco told me that some of the February interviewees definitely were accepted, including people who interviewed at the end of the month. I don't know whether any of the February interviewees found out in time to attend the second look though.

Again, as far as I know, no one has been waitlisted yet. And according to Dean Franco, some of the February interviewees have been accepted, and more people will be accepted in mid-April.

Good luck to all of you guys. :luck:

oh well, im with ya on that one, ive pretty much given up hope on this school

hmm, April 15th is a Sunday? Should we keep our fones on in case Dean Franco wants to drop us a call? 😀

i called them and they said the same thing. did you still not hear anything from them?

I called again yesterday and she said she believed we would hear in the next two weeks. The woman I spoke with said they were behind. Who knows... I am keeping my hopes down and my expectations low at this point.

I understand what you're saying, and I don't think there is anyone in the medical field who hasn't heard of the Cleveland Clinic. 😉 ...
Everyone in the medical field has heard of Cleveland Clinic, but many are surprised to hear that there is a school associated with it, with a 5-year MD program, etc. Case (the undergrad program) has a similar name recognition problem amongst the general population (with the exception of engineers), perhaps because of the lack of a top team in any sport!

I have been on hold since December and have still not given up hope. If you are still interested in the school I suggest that you send an LOI and recs or transcripts. Just my 2 cents. Good luck to all of us!!😀 :luck:

If this is true, that means i am either waitlisted or rejected. Both cases, I just think it's more appropriate for the admission officers to send out the letter, so we could either raise our chances to get in or forget about the school. Since I haven't heard anything, I can't send updated trancript or new recommendation (if i am rejected, i would look stupid and i would waste my money on transcript). While earlier waitlisted students have been sending updates and new recommendations, we don't have the same opportunities to do so. That's why i am frustrated...🙁

I dont think they have made decisions for those on hold. I think if you are still interested let them know. That is what I have done; even if I am still rejected I will have peace of mind knowing that I did the best I could😉

Dr: ok

next day...
me: Dr. xxxxxx, actually, i don't need the recommendation anymore
Dr: why?
me: I received rejection letter yesterday

so sorry to hear about that... but the story is kinda funny.

Has anybody who interviewed in February received a decision from CCLCM?

Nope, but I got an email from Case this morning asking if I'd like to remain on an alternate list for consideration or withdrawal my application.

Do you think this means they are rejecting people on hold now? As in they sent rejections to those on hold who had no chance of making it, and are asking those who have a chacne if they'd like to remain?

I interviewed on Feb. 19 and was accepted in early March, in time to make reservations for the second look. I know a couple of people who I met at the second look were not 100% sure and I know one that decided to drop by the 15th. So spots will open up! Good luck everyone. :luck:

Congrats! I also interviewed on Feb 19th and was under the assumption that we were all still on hold pending a decision - nice to know that instead CCLCM just hasn't bothered to send out rejection/waitlist letters. 👎

congrats, DocKnight! I was a late Feb interviewee and haven't heard anything yet. How was second look???? and will you be attending CCLCM?

yeah, i guess it doesn't really look good for us now. Although I'm still hoping that I may have a decision pending. another one goes down the hole....

Yea - Although I suppose there's still some chance - Until that rejection letter ends up in my lap. It sounds like you have some excellent options outside of CCLCM though kbear!

I still think that it is ridiculous that they told us 3-4 weeks for some sort of notification and now after 5, absolutely nothing. It would be nice to have an idea of where we stand post-interview. What a waste of money to go to Cleveland.

I just asked my boss for LOR. I hope above doesn't happen to me:scared:

congrats, DocKnight! I was a late Feb interviewee and haven't heard anything yet. How was second look???? and will you be attending CCLCM?

Second look was really nice. We had a reception/dinner/presentation/discussion at the foundation house, a historic mansion. They also took us out on the town, on a tour of Cleveland, and did other presentations for us. It was pretty nice. I'll definately be attending. Good luck to all those who are waiting and I hope to meet all who have decided to go.

I am withdrawing from CCLCM acceptance list tomorrow. Finally decided Case was the best fit for me.

Good luck to you all.

Thanks, Wooly! And congrats on your decision! Doesn't seem like you could go wrong with either program.

So I got my official hold letter in the mail today. It was dated March 30th and postmarked April 3rd.

"You have been placed on our 'Hold List.' This list consists of highly qualified applicants, some of whom will be admitted as the application process unfolds. We try to keep our applicants fully informed about the admissions process, and we will inform you immediately if your admission status changes...Applicants who have not been rejected go into the 'Hold' category. I will make offers to that group after we know how many applicants will matriculate on July 9th. The date I will know that is April 15, 2007, so you will hear from me sometime after that date."

I just got the same 'hold' letter today. I hope to find out soon. If they don't outright reject/accept, I would like to know where on the waitlist i'm sitting and if it's worth pursuing. I think I'll send in an updated transcript nonetheless.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is this LOI people speak of? Letter of Intent I presume. Not sure how that works. I would just send an email and say i'm still really interested. Is that what you mean?

Hi Guys,

I know it's a pain to wait on the hold list, especially when there are only 32 students accepted at a time... but just hope for the best. There is always SOME movement towards the beginning of the summer.

One of my classmates even got in in June (I think he was the last one), so there's always hope.

Keep your head up, and Happy Triduum! =)

I have been on hold since december and wrote a Letter of Interest. In it, i was able to update the dean on my recent activities, delve into detail my interests and the aspects of the school that make it an excellent fit for those interest. Good luck to all of us on the hold list. :luck:

Good luck man, I guess we will no longer be able to say "I dont know anyone that got into CCLCM and Case and chose to go to Case" 🙁

That's probably because you go to CC and only talk to others who also chose to go there.

I actually spoke with several students from Case who were accepted at CCLCM and chose Case. For me it basically came to the fact that you get the same cleveland clinic hospital experience, only 4 years, still get to do 4months of research, I want to be a physician first, researcher second, liked the larger class size (thought the Case people were a bit more personable/normal), better name recognition in terms of residency programs actually having experience with Case students (I had heard from residency directors that they would be tenative to go with a CCLCM student because they had never had a CCLCM resident before). Just my thinking for others to consider.

Thanks, Wooly Bear, for the thoughts. I'm glad that you have been able to make a decision. I think that everyone of us that have been considering both programs have been weighing the pros and cons, just like you. In the end, though, you can't go wrong with either program and it's up to personal preference.

I agree. I struggled with this decision last year, and I know a bunch of other people did too. Some people realize that they don't like the really small class here or don't want to take the extra year. Or they're kind of risk-averse and don't want to be in a brand new program with no graduates yet. I don't think there's anything wrong with people deciding that CCLCM isn't for them. We can't all go to the same medical school anyway. 🙂

Good luck to you with school, Wooly Bugger. We may be rotating together, and we'll definitely graduate together. But I have to tell you, the UP students definitely are NOT any more normal than we are. 😉

I haven't gotten my mail.... what does that mean?:scared:

I have still received nothing as well in the mail. I am assuming this is probably a bad sign, but you never know...

i got a hold letter yesterday on the west coast. it seemed fairly pointless since the letter basically said we'd know more after April 15th (which is next week anyway). They probably meant to send the letter weeks ago.

Not sure what it means for ejk and cureious who haven't heard anything. I would guess that your letter is either on the way or that you'll hear something post-April 15th (I think we all will).

the sad thing is my interviewer at cclcm told me he would make sure i get into the school. my interview went ok but one of the interviewers like me a lot. i was hoping something postive, but now, all i want is a piece of letter saying something...

ejk, maybe you can try calling them.

Oh i definetly agree that those are all good points/reasons to go to case. My post was more of a joke (hence the laughing face). I'm sure that there are many people over the last 3 years that have chosen Case over the Clinic for many of the reasons you pointed out, I just hadn't met any and therefore I could claim that I didnt know anyone that made that choice. Now you've ruined that for me👎 . Good luck and i'm sure we'll be seeing you at bars/the hippo ball/social events/on the wards, etc. Welcome to cleveland...

just got my hold letter today after interviewing on feb. 16th. gahh!!!!

It's almost April 15, guys. There should be some more acceptances going out soon. Hang in there. :luck:
