Hey guys, I've got my interview on Dec. 6th, but I also have another Chicago school interview on the 3rd. I was really happy to get these around the same time to save on plane tickets, but now I'm having a hard time trying to figure out transportation.... I'm thinking about renting a car. Did anyone else do this for their interview? I think the whole train system is just gonna be too much of a hassle considering these two schools are an hour away from each other, just by car. Any advice would be great!

I rented a car when I was there two weeks ago. What do you want to know? I rented from Hertz because they have awesome discounts if you're an AAA member. Just be aware that if you're staying at a hotel downtown they will charge anywhere between $30-50 a night for parking.

Renting a car would be a good idea because midwestern is not actually near the metra station. Just have a good idea of what parking is available and what traffic will be like for the other interview because both can be very challenging in chicago.

not a downer at all! i like honesty! When did you submit your secondary?
I was complete around the middle of September and I just heard back from CCOM last week so no need to panic. Stats were 28M and 3.8 gpa. Interview on Dec. 13th.

been complete since 9/19 and still no word..also sent in an update email two weeks ago...getting worried and losing hope lol

oh sweet, I'm a AAA member. I'll definitely look into it. I don't think I'll be staying downtown. I honestly don't want to deal with that mess considering these interviews are in the morning. And I have the weekend between them as well, so I might drive to the city for a peek then. I think I'll be staying somewhere in the 'burbs between the two med school. We shall see.

If you sign up for their #1 club (it's free) I believe you'll get a discount and they'll waive the "Young Driver" charge for drivers under 25.

Does anyone have an idea of how much wieght an interview has for the the acceptance decision? I interviewed here over a week ago and I'm really nervous because my interview didn't go as well as I hoped but my EC's and application are pretty solid.

My interview didn't go well either. We might have interviewed on the same day. I wonder if you got the same interview team I did.

accepted!!

interviewed 10/22

OOS, 28S, 3.86sci

good luck everyone!!

this is definitely my top DO school, good reputation, great location (chicago!), nice/safe campus, extensive hospital network for rotation sites, and there is a new science building opening next year with a brand new anatomy lab~~ can't really ask for more...😍

Jumping up and down crying excited! 😍 I interviewed last week; they must have had their committee meeting. Good luck to everyone else!

Does everyone get a complete email form CCOM? I've had all the green checks since end of August, and I never received an email or anything from CCOM. Any suggestions?

To those accepted in this last round, CONGRATULATIONS! I'm still waiting to hear back post-interview, but I think that it might be in vain.

I'd contact them to verify... I was compelte in Oct and received an email saying I was complete.

hey artsydoc, when was your interview!? you heard back really quick!

CONGRATS everyone!

Who do I email if I want an update and to send an email of a great desire to interview?

Hello Friends,

Has CCOM extended any interview offers of late? I was complete about a month ago and have been anxious to hear from them.

Who else is pumped to be going to CCOM next year?!?!? 😀😀😀

Hey friend 🙂,

They extended me an interview invitation this morning. A couple of minutes ago, I selected the earliest interview date available which was 01/11/2011. It was a little surprising to hear back from them so soon; I received my complete e-mail on 11/09/2010.

Best of luck getting an invite soon!

Congratulations Buddy 🙂 and Good luck 😀! Didn't get it this time 🙁. I am wondering if someone knows being Canadian played a role in that (GPA: 3.92, MCAT: 36R will these stats offset the imbalance created by my status, if there is one))? What specifically does CCOM look at before they extend interview invites? ... desperate to hear back from CCOM... Ah God! Hopefully I'll hear back soon.

Hopefully :xf:. May I ask which schools you applied to? Congratulations on your outstanding numbers. There is the whole rumor that your stats are so high, that they may not really consider you, but who really knows?! IMO, it's horse doodoo if you would be negatively affected as a Canadian; those numbers show great academic potential for medical school.

I know this is a silly question, but are you certain you are complete?

Thank you. Yep I received the complete email on Oct 23. I will like to assume the rumour is not true... because it is baseless/pointless. People with higher GPA get in.
Applied to CCOM, AZCOM, DMU, Western, UNECOM, TOURO-NY, LECOM-E & B, NSU, WVSOM, KCUMB, KCOM, VCOMs.
INTERVIEW: DMU (Decision pending), AZCOM
Rejected: WVSOM, LECOM-B (former for not being US-resident, latter I don't know for what.... I believed I was ably prepared for their PBL as I have ample research... no point of crying 🙁)
Anxiously waiting to hear from: CCOM, Western and NSU (as these are my top choices)

Definitely not. We have a few Canadians in every class. Whether there is a cap on that number I don't know but I'm guessing Admissions would tell you, if asked.

anyone receive an interview invite from CCOM lately? I've been complete since late sept. and still no word.

I've been complete since then as well.... there have been people who have applied later and received rejection letters so I guess if you really want to go there maybe write an LOI

Hey guys, congrats on the recent acceptances! I'm interviewing Dec 13 and was wondering if anyone could give me a breakdown of how much renting vs. getting a cab from O'Hare would be. I'm planning on staying closer to Downers Grove rather than downtown.

First time visit to Chicago so "excited" is an understatement 😀

I rented a car and it was only like 40-50 for a rental, judging from the distance to the school from the airport if you can get a car for less than 70-80 it would probably be cheaper and a lot more convenient.:luck:

I just received an email today about an interview! I was shocked that there was a spot open on December 7th (someone must have dropped out). I am from OOS and I think I am staying at the Hampton Inn....any feedback? I was complete in September.

I decided to go to CCOM in the fall, but I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find a 2 BR house/apartment that is really close to campus?? I've been looking online at craigslist, rent.com, etc, but haven't had any luck yet. Any help would be appreciated 😀

I am a pre-med student very interested in CCOM. For those already accepted, congrats. Could you let the rest of us know what kind of resume you had? such as GPA, MCAT, and ECs

Thanks

I was complete in mid-august and haven't heard from them yet!!! Please CCOM, give me some love!!!!!

There are some condos across the street from MWU. As for apartments: CityView, Versailles, The Residence, and Yorktown are all popular. If you do a search (I think of last year's CCOM thread) there's a more comprehensive list that TeamZissou made.

Holla! The info is out there somewhere folks. Plus where you live actually isn't that big of a deal. What you should plan is where you will be spending your study time (b/c you'll be there more than at home)

just withdrew my acceptance, good luck to the one who gets my spot! 🙂

Just curious if anyone knows whether CCOM submits your secondary CV to your Interfolio account? I just found it odd that the same day my secondary was processed, my Interfolio account 'received' my CV. And I know I didn't upload it.

Woof, not looking forward to paying that $1000 deposit in a few days...but its all worth it in the long run I suppose 👍

In state- Complete in late July. Just heard back... rejection 🙁
I guess Chicago won't be in my near future...

Don't take it personally. The application process is so random and there are a ton of people who CCOM would love to accept but they can't have everyone. Tough decisions.

But hey if you love the area that much there are a plethora of residencies here😉

Accepted at AZCOM but rejected at CCOM pre-interview... :annoyed:

I'm from Minnesota! That's practically instate... So frustrating!

Yeah I was just rejected pre-interview yesterday. 29Q/3.5/OOS...good luck to the rest of you!

Are these rejections coming via email or snailmail? I've been complete since sept and have heard nothing....

Ugh whyy. Snailmail is a waste of paper and time. And I can't check it every 5 minutes on my phone.
