Hello All,
Figured I would start this thread, as programs gained access to applications yesterday!
Good luck this season.

Wow that was really quick. Do you have ties to that program or are you currently training there?
Are you guys applying to more places than you would have as there's no need for travel?
How do people feel about pre-interview invite interest letters? I'm from southern California originally, did med school and in residency in the Northeast, and 1000% want to go back to California and plan to remain there (family and many friends are there). I already put a paragraph stating this in my PS but I'm thinking about sending an email to the PD's of California programs to make sure they are aware and I don't get lost in the shuffle, especially considering people will be applying more broadly and not turning down interviews. Is it too pushy? Am I overthinking things (probably yes)?
I think many programs will go empty this year because candidates are applying many programs due to virtual interviews. I personally applied 5-10 extra programs and not even sure If I am really interested in. This is of course if they do not interview and rank every single candidate that apply to the program.
curious about the ratio of total applicants to available spots.
So, strategically does it make sense to rank only 1 or 2 programs and wait for post-match to score a top-tier program?
I would rank the programs I really want to go. I am really not sure how things will turn out this year.
Virtual interview is definitely a different ballgame.
A friend of mine received rejection from University of California. But besides that one, I have not heard anybody who heard from top tier coastal programs.
Which of the UC's was this?
Any input for Cleveland Clinic`s CAP program? It is a big name hospital but I am not sure if I liked the fact that they have 2 weekend calls a month in first year and also 6 months of C/L, 6 months of inpatient with minimal outpatient exposure. Any input is appreciated
In freida, CC program has said " Average number of 24-hour off duty periods per week during first year " as 2. That means you should get every weekend off in 1st year or at least 2 days off a week. Maybe there are not being truthful in frieda.

How many programs did you all apply to?
16. I feel it is an overkill. I've heard that you will get interviews in almost every place you apply. I don't know how our programs will feel if we take more than 20 days off for interviews.
Also, last year 61% matched to their 1st choice, another 13% to their 2nd choice & another 10% to their 3rd choice. So, 84% matched to their first 3 choices.

You make a fair point about applying to a lot since everything is virtual, but I think I would burn out if I had so many interviews to go on, and I wouldn't be able to take off half days as most of mine so far are full day interviews.I agree with your point. Problem I have is , I am not sure about my top three, even top 10. I care the name or the reputation of the program as long as I can sustain my peace of mind there. That includes the personalities of the current fellows and faculty ( I know it will be hard to assess in virtual interview but this is all we have this year), camaraderie, teaching vs service, and many other small details.
Some interviews are only half day so I think it can be squeezed to not busy outpatient schedule without a need to take the day off.
