Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
do you have an MCAT score?
no, that's probably why 😛 But, I'm going to have to apply before my MCAT (taking it in June). I'm pretty confident I can get a 35, but who knows...**** happens. I think I'm going to make a list of schools based on the assumption I'll get a 33-35 and just apply broadly (25-30 schools).

Good luck

when does ucf open?

oh ok. on the website i thought it said it opens 2010

hmmm, well its in the MSAR, so i figured it was this year and everyone else says its this year.

Ur right, I just looked at the website and it said it opens fall 2009. I just misread

Is it a good idea to apply to ucf? I'm a little worried seeing as I know nothing about it...
Hey, if you get your 35 I would go for it. Free tuition for there incoming class, cant beat that.

On the UCF forum, a few people mentioned that other schools, when they were new, did not have a problem with matching their students into good residencies. I dont' know how good that data is, but I think that's my biggest concern. UCF will have zero reputation when it comes to residencies...free tuition or not. As my former boss at the pathology lab used to say "med school gets you into a good residency, residency gets you a good job"

I know, right? I saw that in the MSAR and thought it was an amazing way of growing a first year class. My undergrad is opening a D.O. school in 2010, they should do that.... hahahaa. (Carey? Give away money? NEVER!!!)

Hope everyone has a great start to the week! How much school left?? 12 days for me...including finals.

Wow. I might have to just consider applying to UCF now even though I have zero ties to Fla. It's not even that expensive.. where does their funding come from?

8 more days of school. 22 more days until I'm done with my last final (May 13)!

Holy crap. I just looked through the new MSAR... and compared some of the numbers to the 06-07 edition... my pre-med hysteria has just skyrocketed to new levels... :scared:

I'm refusing to allow myself to dig any deeper into it until my MCAT scores come back next month. My GPA is above average for every school in the book, so that's a positive... but those MCAT ranges are INSANE!!

AVERAGE of 13 on sciences at the top-ranked schools? Crazy!

Vihsadas - I really like the quote in your signature. I think I am going to use it to convince myself not to buy the new MSAR. It would only be discouraging.

I was skimming through the MSAR and jotting some schools that I would apply to...ended up with a list of 41 schools 😱 That's way too many, right?

To me there's no such thing as "too many". There's a forum called "45 schools? Too many?" or something...with a lot of discussion about how many to apply to. If you think you have a good chance (in state vs OOS, MCAT, GPA), then go for it. Narrow it down by eliminating schools in other states that take little to no out of state applicants (like FL, NV, and NM schools, etc). Then start looking at GPA/MCAT ranges, read their selection factors in MSAR and see if there's anything out of the ordinary, look at percentages of people with research/volunteer etc (if 95% of a school's accepted apps last year had research and you don't have any, i would cross that off). If after all that you still have 41, then if you can afford it ($$$), why not?? There's arguments to be made for both sides, but IMO, there's nothing wrong with applying to any and all schools you feel you have a legit chance at.

Where's that?
They give the ranges this year from 10% to 90% for all the MCAT sections and all the Gpas.

Like Rosalind franklins 10-90% are
Vr-7-11
PS-8-13
BS-9-13
WS-M-R
Overall GPA-3.3-3.9
Science GPA-3.2-4.0

It is the shaded region.

Whoa, what's this 10%-90% thing?

Since this seems to be turning into a place where pretty much talk about anything.

*sigh* I didnt do so hot on my exam today. I hate relying on finals to get me As, but I might have to for this class🙁. Looks like a long week and a half of studying for me.

BTW, I'd appreciate help from people in figuring out exactly what schools to apply to. I need some good safe schools. Anyone who's interested can check out my apps. Thanks.

it's like what they say... when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Just get it done!

I pretty much did the same thing, except it was mostly because I knew I could drop this test (it's required to drop the lowest test grade) and I aced the first two midterms. But it means I still have to study the same material hard for the final exam, which will count just as much as the two midterms. So I need to make it happen. Big time.

sorry, amwatts. I sorta bombed my last genetics test myself (low b) thankfully I can keep my a if I get over a 67 on the final so I should be okay.

my graduate class a is in the bag, but organic is still on the line. two more weeks to get it done. 13 hours, including the final.

got my shadowing letters ready to go for the local pediatricians and neonatologists. looking forward to hopefully hearing from someone soon 🙂 gonna deliver them to the offices on wed.

Just stopping thru to bump and say God bless!

Yeah those 10-90 numbers are intense. I'm like in the 10th percentile for GPA pretty much across the board. Scary!

BUMP!
I don't like it when this thread is on the second page 😳 How are my fellow 2013ers doing?

Pretty decent! Passed out about 20 letters today to prospective shadowing physicians in peds and neo. Hoping for some response soon 🙂

On the other hand, orgo is killing me until the last minute. Trying to get the quiz of the day done and the whole teacher-not-teaching thing kinda makes it difficult.

NINE DAYS!!! 🙂🙂

I completely feel u about not liking when this thread is on the second page. The other day it slipped to the 4th page. We have to make sure that we keep coming to it when we can and bumping the mess out of it.

I am doing good though. I am studying for my graduate class right now. I have an exam next wednesday. Just making sure I have things in order for this application. Hang in there Gradu8in and AMWATTS, it is almost over, just a lil bit more to go! I will be praying for yall!

How are you doing jgberken?

I'm just counting down the days to May 14th...unfortunately I have a molecular physiology, clinical embryology and neurophysiology exam before that...:scared:

Page 4?! That's crazy talk...I promise that that will never happen again 😛
I'm doing great! The semester is almost over...which is exciting. But application season is about to start, which is stressful. I have mixed feelings.

Imma do my part too, especially since this thread is my baby cuz I started it! I kinda understand the mixed feelings. This will be my second time applying, I say that to say, don't let the app stress you out. Try to enjoy the process as much as possible. Look at it as not everybody can apply to medical school but you are blessed enough to be in that position! 👍

Oh you started this thread? Nice idea! And you're right...hopefully, we will all have multiple acceptances this time next year 😀

But, you're in the 90th percentile MCAT for most schools (even over for some 😱)

Did you guys notice how the Median MCAT score for Stanford, NorthWestern, Harvard, Jhop, Umich, and Duke is a THIRTY SEVEN. Median! what the heck!? And there are a whole heck of ALOT of median 35s.

Wash U is a frickin 38! That's absolutley ri-diculous!

I may not even bother applying to any of the top 20s this time around...

Dude...we are gonna put my GPA and your MCAT together...no worries, we will rule the world.

So just calm down Mr. fiesty Pants.

I want in on this...But I have nothing to contribute 🙁
Do you have dashingly good looks???

wait nvm...I have that covered.

Hmm...A nice set of breasts, helps....what are your measurements?
