Yep, I went this past weekend to move a few things in/get my keys. Official move-in isn't until Aug 1.
 
Well it feels like everything is coming together! I am now in my new place, partially unpacked 🙄 My big Sib has emailed me, I bought my outrageously priced parking pass, and I may order my books tonight or tomorrow. Hard to say, I don't know if my body can take seeing all those big numbers disappear from my account.

My computer problem that has been plaguing me from the day I got it is still not resoloved, but I think we are on to a solution. I was on the phone with multiple tech people today for 7 hours 😱 Turns out, there is something broken inside.
 
I officially move in to my new house next Saturday! 😱 So excited!

Got all my books, got my supplies, and my big and I are literally friends already. Now just 3 1/2 more weeks left til school starts!!!!! :soexcited:

Nah, she's probably thinking "wow this chick is really serious about this. She's gonna be awesome!" 😀

I got lucky with my big...she lives in my hometown and works with a vet who I know very well.

This is how I feel!! Not a word from my big sib since I emailed her back like a month ago. Urgh!

On a positive note, I love meeting all my new classmates 😍 It's been SO fun to get together with so many this past week.

Freaking out slightly that orientation starts next week , then its full-time school August 8th. AAHH!!:scared::scared:

We can do it!. Not sure if your big sib was doing research or anything this summer, but mine was and she just finished her poster this week. It's possible she's been really busy.

Ah! That sucks! I know some people who are like that. They for some reason have faith in the worst product on the market and then try and pawn it off on you too....

Honestly, I know nothing about the brand and as far as I'm concerned, if it works, I would use it, I am a very low maintenance, cheap person lol, but you just have to know her to understand. I hope I'm not coming across as ungrateful, but even my BF was annoyed by it. You just have to know her.

She has never worked a day in her life and mooches off her husband and spends his money like it grows on trees. Every time there is a special gift that I want (i.e. a stethoscope for vet school) that my mom wants to buy for me, she swoops in and tries to do it first. It's obnoxious and it's never even her money. She thinks she's the "generous hero" by buying gifts for people with someone else's hard earned money. And she LOVES to try and make me feel stupid based on her gifts.... for example
(and PLEASE PLEASE understand this is not me being a spoiled brat when I tell you this... it's the intentional crap that pisses me off)

For X-mas this past year...
My boyfriend got tons of stuff (obviously it's her son)
His brother Josh got tons of stuff (obviously again)
Josh's GF that he's been with for 4 months got a Keurig, a coach purse, and a new camera.
Josh's GF's two kids each got nice laptops, cameras, clothes, and iPhones.(they are 8 and 11 and she has known them for 4 months) 😱

I (her sons's GF of 4 1/2 years) got a 6 pack of socks....... :eyebrow:



enough said.

Like I mentioned, I truly don't expect or want gifts from them. I truly love giving gifts way more than I like getting them, but when you slap me in the face over and over again... go F yourself lady!

We went camping once and she said she would buy my BF and I sleeping bags and chairs to sit in. She bought him a really nice mummy bag brand new, and she found me a torn sleeping bag at goodwill. Then we get to camp and pull our chairs out... she bought me a TODDLER chair.
So effing ridiculous :laugh:

Em....that just sucks. 🙁 Why be so blatantly rude to your potential daughter-in-law? I mean....socks vs several thousand dollars? Umm...that's horrible.

Yep lol. And like I said, it's not the material things I care about, it's that she so blatantly tries to be rude. We just laugh about it now bc I really don't care and have no intention of ever having a relationship with this woman (sadly, bc I really would like to have a good relationship with my mother-in-law). It's a REALLY long story why she hates me, and it truly honestly has NOTHING to do with me. Both sides of my BF's family can't stand her (including her own brothers and sisters 🙄) and were there to witness the day she flipped out on me.
She can't stay out of her 30 year old sons' lives and hates that her son loves me and my cooking more than hers 😉. My life is a real life version of Everybody Loves Raymond on steroids.

But on Sunday when I was getting ready to leave she came by and started bawling hysterically about how much she's gonna miss me and blah blah blah. She tries to make me look like the bad guy to my boyfriend and it's really effing annoying. My best friend was standing there staring at her with an "oh please" face. It was hilarious. :laugh:
 
Just got my financial aid stuff... only because I went online to find it myself. "Wait to hear from us"... yeah... sure! 🙄

Or are we only guaranteed the 40.5K and have to use grad loans for the rest?

no worries, mine was 5 (my expected contribution) but they say you can take loans out for that.

did you try to apply for HPSL? I'm taking the full 10 k and not the grad loan

Yeah but that's what I was curious about. I wasn't offered that for some reason...?? And I applied for it with my parents info and all that 😕😕😕

And yeah my expected contribution was 10K 🙄

You're guaranteed that. I have that, $4,500 in HPSL and $4,750. The remainder I'm using the GradPLUS loan for 🙂(). I'm not sure how they determine who qualifies for the HPSL loan, but maybe you didn't qualify for it? If so, you might need to take out the GradPLUS loan up to your COA.

I'm jealous you got $10k for your HPSL TW.

im very very poor LOL

my expected family contribution was a big fat 0.... but they didn't award it to me at first... once I found out that people were gettng it and NOT me, i bothered my finaid dept about it.

Imagine my surprise when they were lke "oh yeah, you qualify... lets get rid of the gradplus"

Haha. Maybe I should have done that. I think they're expecting my family and I to contribute wayyyy too much. My EFC on the FAFSA was 0, but my parents and I are still expected to contribute $13,000. That's not happening whatsoever. Their contribution to my education might be some groceries here and there and paying my rent deposit because I don't have that money upfront yet. That's about it.

I really don't know where they get these numbers from. I think I'm supposed to contribute 2k and they're supposed to contribute 11k. Unless they're hiding a small fortune from me, they definitely don't have that. I barely have the 2k and only have it because I legit will not let myself spend money on things for me right now. I felt super guilty going clothing shopping recently because I could put that money elsewhere, but I desperately need clothing because nothing fits me anymore. And I'm pretty sure my parents are all maxed out on loans due to my dad's business, my college loans, and now my sister's college loans.

Goal: find rich doctor in Philly and marry him.

haha I have two (or HAD...since I had to quit the other one last week 🙁 ) PT... 11 was one and 14 was the other.

so sad, right?

worked 7 days a week though so technically I worked 40 hrs... wasnt fun never to get a weekend though
 
How do you apply for the Health Professions loan? I asked the FA at the school and they ignored me. I think at this point im set up with the Grad plus so no use in changing things up now right before school, but possibly for next year it will help.

step 1) have your parents fill out the FAFSA

proceed to step 2

step 2) bug the hell out of the financial Aid office

Health professions loan is applied for automatically through the loan magicians at UTK.
 
ok I put my parents info in the fafsa. Do you think its worth trying for this year or is it to late?

I had to fill out an additional application for my school and send in copies of both my parents and my tax forms and W2s to apply for additional loads besides the Direct and GradPLUS.

I'm not sure about this. In your case was it included in the total and your total was therefore above the 40.5K? Because I don't think they can give it to you on top of that if you didn't accept the whole amount.

It's a separate loan not included in your 40.5k max for Stafford loans.

At UTK, they awarded it together. After you fill out the FAFSA, the fin aid office does most of the rest without much needed from current students. It may have changed, but it is infuriatingly out of your control

I would bug them. A couple different people on here qualified for it but were granted it and after they contacted the financial aid office, that mistake was caught.

The worst that will happen is they refuse to give it to you and you stick with the loans you already have.
 
Sooooo according to HPSL's website, UF doesn't participate in it.

I think the schools had to be established before a certain year to qualify.

I'm still currently freaking out about what computer to get...Although I did just learn how to zoom on the touchpad of a Mac since I'm still fiddling with my sister's to see if it's worth the monies. Growly Notes still isn't as good at OneNote. No pen features and the highlighter feature is bleh.


Also, I haven't heard yet from the landlord about the apartment my roommate and I applied for. We both sent him emails of our application and then put the official copy in the mail. I believe she said she's away for the next 3 weeks, so if things don't work out, it seems like it's up to me. And I feel bad cause I told someone I was considering taking the spare room in her house (it's more $$$ than I want to pay for a small room) if things didn't work out and had hoped to be able to give her a definite answer by now. I don't want to tell her that I don't want it yet in case things don't work out because I at least have a backup plan.
