Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nothing unusual... Kaplan and AAMC full-length tests, EK for sciences and verbal, and pretty much every question Kaplan offered online. Oh, and lots of luck on test day 😀

i think the AAMC tests are great confidence boosters. I've done better on those than on my Princeton Review tests. And considering the AAMC ones are from actual old MCATs, I'm feeling a lot better about my chances. Hopefully, my luck is as good as yours come test day.

am I the only undergrad junior in here?! seems like most are non-trads

Aint nothing wrong with being trad, I actually wish I could have been a traditional applicant, but life is weird like that. Plus, I wouldn't have been talking with all you wonderful c/o 2016ers, so I think it works out fine. 🙂

This should be my thread but I recently decided to take a year off  Good Luck everyone!

Med school will still be here when you get back 🙂

GL to you on your year off!

The farther I go into this process, the more I feel like taking a year off would be a good idea

you should totally take a year off if you'd like. As a matter of fact, everyone here should take a year off.

I heard that most schools aren't even accepting apps for the next cycle due to budget cuts, so you guys shouldn't even bother filling out AMCAS.

Yeah guys, in case you didn't hear, all the UC's are completely shut down til 2014.

Yeah I heard that about Chicago too. Illinois is in a state of emergency, something about needing all of its manpower to support the Bulls. 🙂

Helllllllllll yeah. Growing up idolizing Michael Jordan and now watching Derrick Rose makes Rush and UIC so much more appealing just because of their proximity to the United Center. Can't beat that

Yep, same for me. If I had gone straight through I'd be c/o 2014!

Thanks! hopefully my first FL won't be bad, really fearing that

Good luck!:luck:

I second everyone needing to take a year off!
But seriously, it has been an excellent decision and I will be clear headed for this fabulously convoluted process of applying.

Only a couple weeks to go!

I'm so excited about the idea of going to med school in the city. I really don't want to go anywhere else.

Hm, all this talk about the apps getting closer is scarry! Reminds me of how I should probaly start my PS (threw out the other one)
I'm so excited about the idea of going to med school in the city. I really don't want to go anywhere else.

It's soo cool how you're from Chicago! I used to want to live there when I was younger so It would be awesome to go to med school there!!!

The nice thing is that most of them are accessible by public transportation. I love Chicago, but only when I am walking.

And that there's 6 med schools in/around the city! They're all less than an hour away from home as well, so I wouldn't homesick anymore 🙂

I prefer big urban cities myself and as such a lot of my med school choices will reflect that (barring any changes that my MCAT score forces me to make).

I really want to go to a school that has a D1 football and or competitive basketball team though. Not having either one during undergrad blew big time.

Oh man. Chicago is my dream. I love the city. Top choices are all in Chicago. Best city in the nation in my opinion...although I am a fan of Boston courtesy of four years undergrad. But still. Chicago love!😍

Hopefully we'll get lucky this cycle...or at least I need luck with a 29 MCAT!

I'm a 2016 applicant!! I graduated in 09 and am in my 2nd of 3 years off right now.

I want to go back to my hometown (NYC) for med school, so I'm considering applying ONLY to NYC schools, but there are only .... 5 or 6. and aside from SUNY Downstate, they're all really hard to get into.

What should I do?!

I did my undergrad in Boston, too. Where did you go?

(Hi, 2016-ers! Hope you're all getting excited for your app cycle! 🙂)

haha. well more power to you. +1 non-trad here.
Yep, non-trad here.

I had to take a couple tests already, they were about to expire, and I am already scoring higher than my actual scores last year. This has boosted my confidence and kept me motivated to keep studying.

I'm definitely down! c/o 2016 = Livers made of titanium
😀 👍

I think it's risky, especially considering the quality of NYC schools. If you won't go anywhere else, even if accepted, I don't see any point in applying to other places. You just have to live with the fact that you might not get in 🙁

Good luck!! 👍

You should apply broadly within the geographical region. You east coast people have awesome trains to get between cities. I bet if you broadened your list to schools within a 3 hour train ride, you'd have a big list! I have the same problem though, I really don't want to leave California, but will obviously have to apply elsewhere. I am having a really difficult time selecting schools, it's hard to balance the "apply broadly" advice with the "don't apply anywhere you wouldn't go if it were your only acceptance" advice. Ugh.

The MSAR is really helping me out with the whole choosing of the school thing. I get 14 free schools (because I FAPed) so I think that'll give me a good variety of schools to choose from. It just sucks being a CA resident, I'm still applying to them though (although I don't know about UCSF, Stanford, and Loma Linda barring I get some insane MCAT score)

I still have other criteria of choosing a school like
weather
proximity of professional sporting arenas
quality of D1 athletics
attractiveness of the female population of area ( its like the most important factor 😀 )

I'm pretty much ready to do this!! AMCAS is out pretty soon guys, good luck! :luck:

This is a big one... Even San Francisco is a little too chilly for me

It doesn't leave me with many options, but I'll learn to love the cold if I have to 😀

I know, I'm not big on cold weather either but I'm from the Bay so Frisco wouldn't be too bad. Its the areas where it snows that make me go :scared:

Seriously, the MSAR is my best friend right now. I always flip through it for a little bit of bedtime reading.

Haha really? It kind of depresses the crap out of me. Scares me into MCAT studying, that's for sure.

Haha it used to, but in this period of waiting for my MCAT score, I find that looking through the MSAR and seeing what schools I could possibly apply to makes me freak out a little less.

For example, If I feel like I got a 26, I flip through and see which schools have a 26 in their lowest 10th percentile haha.

Ugh my family is in... CA. Bay Area, to be exact. I'll need a miracle to get back home. 🙁

I kind of regret never going to a football game, especially since I lived like two blocks away from Camp Randall stadium (gooooo badgers!). It was a big shock from my undergaduate commuter school. People get up at 7 am to grill brats and drink beer! Who does that?!

As long as sports doesn't affect my sleep or my commute I'm good to go.

Might be the truest statement on SDN... I wish they had a section in the MSAR about that, guess we'll just have to gauge attractiveness of schools during interviews 😎

Haha I do this all the time too, I might list it as my favorite book at the moment!

i like the way you think sir, weather isn't a factor for me...as long as I get that MD, I will go anywhere

Epic multi quote incoming

You mean to tell me that you went to U of Wisconsin during their amazing year this year and didn't go to a single football game? you crazy. I would totally wake up at 7 to grill brats and drink beer if my schools football team were that good. Hell, I'd do it if even if they weren't good that's how much I love football.

You know it, hopefully will get to plan weekends around interviews so I can gauge the on and off campus prospects 😎

I'm pretty sure I can manage the cold, but to not have some sort of sporting event to attend or girls to meet, I don't know what I'd do. :scared:

kind of depressed because suny downstate's mcat cut-off is 3 years prior to matriculation... and i took my mcat 3 years and 1 month prior to matriculation 🙁

Really?!? That sucks, I'm so sorry. I thought it only had to be 3 years prior to applying?

yea, i thought so too. i emailed them to check. maybe they'll let *one* month slide...

columbia is scaring me too --
their website says "within the prior 3 years of applying" but MSAR says September 2009...

so i emailed both! here's hoping!

That REALLY sucks 🙁 I hope it gets sorted out and they take it 🙂

soooo, to catch up, how are all you '16ers doing?
I befriended the MSAR a while back, and I have my color-coded excel spreadsheet safely stored on my computer.
For, me I don't have any real standards for med school, except for me hoping it's an MD school. Since MCAT can definitely make or break an application, I'm trying to get this MCAT business out of the way.
Though like addressed, hot med students 👍 (preferably male, single, hot, med students:laugh:)

Oh man! 🙁

Oh man! 🙁

they told me my MCAT was "acceptable" and in the same email told me MCATs have a "3-year limit" from the date of matriculation.

when i emailed back and asked if the matriculation date was in august and if my "3-year date" was in July, they said "yes to both."

so now i'm wondering if their "acceptable" in the first email was meant to be "unacceptable", but I think it might be rude to email again...

but they're being so unclear!
