i think the AAMC tests are great confidence boosters. I've done better on those than on my Princeton Review tests. And considering the AAMC ones are from actual old MCATs, I'm feeling a lot better about my chances. Hopefully, my luck is as good as yours come test day.

Aint nothing wrong with being trad, I actually wish I could have been a traditional applicant, but life is weird like that. Plus, I wouldn't have been talking with all you wonderful c/o 2016ers, so I think it works out fine. 🙂

I heard that most schools aren't even accepting apps for the next cycle due to budget cuts, so you guys shouldn't even bother filling out AMCAS.

The nice thing is that most of them are accessible by public transportation. I love Chicago, but only when I am walking.

I prefer big urban cities myself and as such a lot of my med school choices will reflect that (barring any changes that my MCAT score forces me to make).

I really want to go to a school that has a D1 football and or competitive basketball team though. Not having either one during undergrad blew big time.

I had to take a couple tests already, they were about to expire, and I am already scoring higher than my actual scores last year. This has boosted my confidence and kept me motivated to keep studying.

I think it's risky, especially considering the quality of NYC schools. If you won't go anywhere else, even if accepted, I don't see any point in applying to other places. You just have to live with the fact that you might not get in 🙁

You should apply broadly within the geographical region. You east coast people have awesome trains to get between cities. I bet if you broadened your list to schools within a 3 hour train ride, you'd have a big list! I have the same problem though, I really don't want to leave California, but will obviously have to apply elsewhere. I am having a really difficult time selecting schools, it's hard to balance the "apply broadly" advice with the "don't apply anywhere you wouldn't go if it were your only acceptance" advice. Ugh.

The MSAR is really helping me out with the whole choosing of the school thing. I get 14 free schools (because I FAPed) so I think that'll give me a good variety of schools to choose from. It just sucks being a CA resident, I'm still applying to them though (although I don't know about UCSF, Stanford, and Loma Linda barring I get some insane MCAT score)

I still have other criteria of choosing a school like
weather
proximity of professional sporting arenas
quality of D1 athletics
attractiveness of the female population of area ( its like the most important factor 😀 )

Haha it used to, but in this period of waiting for my MCAT score, I find that looking through the MSAR and seeing what schools I could possibly apply to makes me freak out a little less.

For example, If I feel like I got a 26, I flip through and see which schools have a 26 in their lowest 10th percentile haha.

Ugh my family is in... CA. Bay Area, to be exact. I'll need a miracle to get back home. 🙁

I kind of regret never going to a football game, especially since I lived like two blocks away from Camp Randall stadium (gooooo badgers!). It was a big shock from my undergaduate commuter school. People get up at 7 am to grill brats and drink beer! Who does that?!

As long as sports doesn't affect my sleep or my commute I'm good to go.

You mean to tell me that you went to U of Wisconsin during their amazing year this year and didn't go to a single football game? you crazy. I would totally wake up at 7 to grill brats and drink beer if my schools football team were that good. Hell, I'd do it if even if they weren't good that's how much I love football.

soooo, to catch up, how are all you '16ers doing?
I befriended the MSAR a while back, and I have my color-coded excel spreadsheet safely stored on my computer.
For, me I don't have any real standards for med school, except for me hoping it's an MD school. Since MCAT can definitely make or break an application, I'm trying to get this MCAT business out of the way.
Though like addressed, hot med students 👍 (preferably male, single, hot, med students)

they told me my MCAT was "acceptable" and in the same email told me MCATs have a "3-year limit" from the date of matriculation.

when i emailed back and asked if the matriculation date was in august and if my "3-year date" was in July, they said "yes to both."

so now i'm wondering if their "acceptable" in the first email was meant to be "unacceptable", but I think it might be rude to email again...

but they're being so unclear!
