Page 3!?!? This is unacceptable, we can't have the class of 2014 thread be front page and not be up there as well. How do they even have time to post with the rigors that come with being an MS1 anyway?

I can NOT WAIT until May 20th. Once the MCAT is over with, my life is going to have so much free time I am not going to know what to do with myself. 👍

Finally finished analyzing the data of the study I did. Guess I'm dropping my exam Tuesday 😡

Interesting conclusion regarding the earlier issue I told you about. When I broke my data into "current smokers" vs "not current smokers", instead of "has a smoking history" vs. "no smoking history", the data looked a lot better (currents smokers performing worse than not current smokers, in PFT's). This makes sense, because lung function as measured by PFT tests supposedly is recoverable after smoking cessation.

I really think the MCAT is the worst part of this whole thing. Second is waiting for your MCAT scores, and third is waiting for your first interview. Fourth is waiting for your first acceptance 😀

You guys will all get there. This thing is all about wanting it badly and working even when you're tired. You can do it!!!

Nah....cause you know what it all will look like. You could pre-write it if you really wanted to🙂 You could also pre-write a bunch of secondaries right now too. A lot of them don't change. And even if they do, you can recycle a LOT of material.
 
grrr.. writing essays is the hardest part of the process.. I'm always like "wut? ivannabeadoc cuz ivannabeadoc" "ivanna go to the service learnin thing cuz I'm awesome" lol..

I remember when I used to say **** like this 😛.

Really, the worst part is whetever you are going through at the moment.

In chronological order, the lows 🙁 🙁 are studying for the MCAT, taking the MCAT, requesting LOR, waiting for LOR, filling out AMCAS, PAYING for AMCAS, filling out secondaries, PAYING for secondaries, waiting to get a interview, waiting to get more interviews, PAYING for interview clothes, PAYING to attend interviews, waiting for an acceptance/rejection/waitlist, getting a rejection/waitlist, waiting to get off a waitlist, waiting to get financial aid packages, waiting to get housing, and waiting to start school.

In chronological order, the highs 🙂 🙂 are picking the list of schools you want to apply to, getting your MCAT score that is high enough to apply with, the day AMCAS opens, the day you submit amcas, the day your first secondary arrives, the day your first choice secondary arrives, the day any secondary arrives, the day you get your first interview, the day you get any interview, getting a new suit for interviews, attending the interviews, the fun stuff you do after a interview if you are visiting a new city, your first acceptance, any acceptance, your financial aid package arrives, you find housing... and I am going to assume the white coat ceremony, and your first day of classes.
 
my mcat is studying is so sporadic it's pathetic, plan on finishing chem this fri.....probably going to use about 1.5 weeks to go back over physics because I feel like my studying for that was all over the place ( no consistency/ didn't retain well enough in alot of sections). probably use ~10 days to go over chem and just do passage practice for biology (bio major).

mcat date is may 26th...will probably take my first FL after I refresh physics/go over orgo. when its all said and done I probably would have really only studied somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8wks. I hope my first FL is decent so I won't have to push back.

Just finished draft 1 of my personal statement. I technically had it done at 2 pm, read it to my roommate, who didn't exactly love it. Basically, I had no overarching theme and no flow. Now, 8 hrs later, I think it's finally good. I will let it sit for a few days and start sending it out for "official" proofreading on Wednesday.

Still, can't say I am not relieved. Woo!
 
Last week of princeton review course this week. Then I will have about 10 weeks in which I will become a hermit in my schools library only to venture out when I need to work,volunteer, and maybe eat while I study for my June 16th test date. I guess I'll throw in my personal statement writing and LOR requesting in there somehow.

I swear, this MCAT has got to be the worst part of the application process, I don't see how secondaries or personal statements could be any worse

the worst part is trying to study for the mcat but you cant because of classes the and bunch of bs assignments they give you. this whole day, I've say at my desk trying to write this paper for english when I could have popped my physics 1001 book and practiced some problems dealing with projectile motion. 😡

I wish I could throw my comp. at my professor +pissed+

Studying for the MCAT while working full-time and taking classes really sucked. I feel your pain.

Definitely true. I've done most of the prewriting, and even a couple of secondaries. I stopped with the secondaries because I feel like such a gunner 😛

Hehe... I acknowledge my ignorance. I actually think that traveling around for interviews will be one of the worst parts for me, though. I would prefer not to travel alone.

Hey ya'll!
just got home and had a major freak out moment today. My MCAT is in 7 weeks, so I want to finish content in the next two, and then devote 5 weeks to exam taking/perfecting. SO SCARY! luckily, I have been working on verbal, so BS and PS shouldn't be TOO bad after all the content :xf: I want to finish 2 chapters (scan DNA stuff and learn microbio) today and do a bunch of physics 1001! yay!
hope you all are having a marvelous Monday!
I know time is flying by, application getting close, professors writing LORs, finishing touches on PS's, but hopefully we're all in this together through the good and the bad. Let's go team!

With all the recent influx of threads/posts related to shadowing, I have come to the realization that it has been nearly two years since I've had any real "shadowing". It was during my stint as a ER scribe so I got to shadow different ER docs/ A Nurse Practitioner / and a couple of DO docs. Was too afraid to ask them for a letter of rec at the time, and plus the reason why I'm not there anymore also made me fearful from asking any of them for a letter of rec. Guess I have to try it the old fashion way and begin cold calling / emailing docs.
 
My last letter is in!! What a relief. Now the committee can do their thing... 😀

I have to find time to do this too 🙁 Met with someone on my State Med's ADCOM. The person told me "rip it up and write more about ____". So much for the draft I've constantly updated and worked on for the last four years >.<

Actually, I'm not that suprised they told you to rip it up. If you are still talking about the same thing you were four years ago...
 
Who else is just planning on writing and editing their ps in a couple of days? I'm too lazy to spend months working on one paper lol

Amen, I'm getting feedback from a couple professors next week. The goal is to finalize it by the end of next weekend!

I wrote another secondary today (not much going on at work). Not too bad... We'll see how I feel after 15 more of them 😀

UCI, not for any particular reason. One of them is a diversity essay, though, which I think I'll get a lot of use out of later. 👍

No parties for me, instead I'm holed up in my room coughing my life away as I am sick for what seems like the 1000th time.
 
Had an awful hangover today....wasn't productive until about 7pm haha. I hate when that happens

Is anyone else counting down the days til AMCAS opens? (25 by the way, haha). I'm such a loser, I know it's going to be boring and tedious to fill out but I'm really excited anyway 🙄

Still probably won't be able to fill it out right away, given the fact that final exams are in the middle of May 🙁, gotta prepare and finish those before filling out the lengthy AMCAS. Still haven't started on the personal statement at all, hopefully it won't be bad, just one page double spaced right? Shouldn't be too hard hopefully. Is it true that this year's AMCAS will be a lot longer and more detailed than the previous cycles?

Mine's at the character limit (5300), and it's 900 words, 2.5 pages double spaced. But you can definitely make it shorter, I'm not sure one page would be enough though.
 
Yeah I can't imagine going under 2 pages. Hell, its even hard condensing my life story and passions into 5300 characters in itself
 
damn I really need to start my PS but have to put it on the back burner until May
 
my rough draft personal statement is 3.5 pages double spaced and over 6000 characters. I've got some work ahead of me, and I still have to take the MCAT. This applying thing sucks
 
It's so hard to "get in the mood" to rewrite my PS. It really sucks that we can't log in early like last year and pre-fill in our application.

last year it let you login in May. Is that not the case this year?
 
Yeah, but I thought we could log in early last year, but now that I am thinking bout it I think I logged into the previous year because it would let you copy over all the information to the current year... which you can't do this year since they changed everything. boo

I am pretty sure this is correct (5300 is including spaces, though). Or, at least, that's what I've gathered from SDN conventional wisdom. I believe the changes this year are only for Work/Activities descriptions, not for the PS.
