Class of 2020 - HPSP Scholarship Applicants (Navy/Army/Air Force)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, I think they'll convene today, though I'm sure we'll have radio silence until end of next week, at the earliest.

Also, I just realized that nobody asseverated or confirmed the Navy board as being on Jan. 13 - anybody else hear that too?

BTW, for anybody considering the HSCP vs. the HPSP, I'm happy to show you my spreadsheet comparing the two. You may find, as I did in my situation, that the HSCP is actually even more lucrative for you than the HPSP is. Understand that this would only make sense for you if you either A) are going to a less expensive and in all likelihood a state school or B) you have prior service. If you have prior service, you'll almost certainly be better off with HSCP.

Anyway, on the spreadsheet that I drafted, I've taken into consideration many things that I think people often overlook when considering the HSCP, so if you're just looking to chew that fat on HSCP, feel free to message me.

Or, if you have no idea what the HSCP is, definitely message me. You're missing out on considering a fantastic program.

For the letter of evaluations, will the military accept Interfolio or does it have to be directly sent?

hand signed physical self written by the recommenders mailed to the recruiting stations with the stamp on the envelope and processed by the postal office.

No one heard anything today? Im anxious to see who all got it! When you guys post if you got it can you also post your stats (GPA, DAT, Volunteer hours)?

I was just told by my Navy recruiter that, due to a hold up with my security clearance in the NASIS application, my kit won't make it to the January board. My recruiter said that the "entire nation was affected by this issue" and that I shouldn't worry. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm very disappointed because I started this application back in September, my package was complete in November, and this security "hold up" is taking 2 months to clear up so far. Now my recruiter is leaving their station and transferring my application to another recruiter.

This Navy HPSP application process has been sketchy to say the least...

Just spoke with my new recuiter. He said the reason I was delayed, the so called "security clearance issue", was because my old recuiter put the wrong birthday on my fingerprint card. That was the delay my old recuiter said was taking two months to process and that the "entire nation was effected by this issue". Then my old recuiter bails on me and transfers. Are you freaking kidding me?
:wtf:

Anyways, I will have to redo my fingerprints and then I'll be ready for the February board (my new recruiter is 90 miles farther than my old one, and that's just one way 🙁).

I took the opportunity to ask him and he said that there were 41 Navy HPSP kits received so far for 6o spots.

BIG ouch.

@XG2 Heatfist I dont get it, if he says 41 kit received for 60 spots, but there are some who already got the navy scholarships. did he account for these too?

41 applications at this moment for 60 spots seem too little for me. I thought the navy branch was more popular than that.

I was thinking the same thing, but I didn't press him any further. Most likely he didn't account for those acceptances, but I will ask him to clarify next time I talk to him. It is probably just another game of "well my recruiter said..." lol!

We won't hear back for at least another week

We won't hear back till next week at the earliest. most likely two weeks. That is what my recruiter has told me.

It's much worse... Has anyone heard anything?

nope. but i read from previous years' posters. Some said their recruiters can check that their app's statuses say "pending" (which mean the board meeting already took place). But I have no nerve to call up my recruiter for this request.

Hi,

So I just started to become interested in the Navy program where they pay for dental school. So far what I have gathered is that if the Navy pays for 3 years of dental school then you will work active duty as a dentist for 3 years after you graduate and then have the option of either being in the active reserves or inactive reserves. From my understanding, for those who want as close to a civilian life after active duty, then the inactive reserves is the way to go. I was also told that being in the inactive reserves you are highly unlikely to be called on. If anyone can confirm all this or add to the specifics of what inactive reserves entails I would really appreciate it. This would be a big commitment so I would like to hear from others (other than my recruiter) if they have gotten the same information as me. Thanks

It can be 4 years, 3 years, and even 2 years (with AF). One year payback for every year of scholarship.
Inactive reserve isn't a "way to go ". You are obligated to be on inactive reserve if you don't renew your military contract. You're committed to military for minimum of 8 years; you're on inactive reserve until you complete 8 years (so 3+5 or 4+4; active+inactive). But you are right, you typically dont do anything on IRR and all it means is that you are on a list.

but btw. don't you have a DUI? Does your recruiter know?

AF's 2 year scholarship still requires a 3 year minimum AD obligation.

I'm sorry, I don't usually troll like this, but LOL at poster thinking the Navy will pay his way through dental school and then put him straight into the IRR

If you read my post correctly you will see that I do know there is and ACTIVE duty obligation then an optional INACTIVE duty obligation after that. I know you don't go straight into IRR. LOL at you brother

yes they know. Said it doesn't disqualify me

still no news for army. im getting anxious!!!!!

I was told the board already met by my recruiter.

thank you for letting us know.

for 4 year army hpsp?

because the army has a board in jan 12th doing direct recruit (for graduated and licensed dentists already)

My recruiter recently got promoted to overseeing AMEDD recruiting rather than doing it himself but he's passing me off to one of his previous colleagues. Before he passes me off to the other guy, he's going to confirm for me today whether the board met for the 4-year HPSP last week or not. I'll update once I hear back.

For what it's worth - my Army recruiter just confirmed that they have 100% been convening on the 4-year HPSP since last week. He said they started to review on January 12 and they can take the whole week and then more, depending on how many packets they receive. He said that he gets an e-mail notification the moment I'm accepted or denied, and that once he gets the notification, he'll let me know. I believe him. He's given me no reason not to throughout this process.

No news on the Navy. My Navy recruiter is... well, she's not nearly as informative. Could be because she's an O4 and my Army recruiter is E7 and thus, she doesn't feel the need. Who knows. Just speculating.

I appreciate the information. In that case we should be hearing back soon considering it's been a week now(or at least I hope so).

can you ask your army recruiter if he/she know how many apps are submitted for this Jan board?
please and thank you.

He told me even before I could ask that he wasn't sure of the number of apps/packets submitted. He knows me well enough to know that I was going to ask him that anyway, so he threw it out there haha

Still waiting to hear back about Navy HSCP/HPSP. Seems I'm not missing out on anything though.

I don't think the Navy has met yet. But the Army has.
I have it on good authority that the Navy was starting their review on January 13 - who told you they haven't met? <-- curious, not coming at you brahhh

Heard the same. Am active duty Navy myself so I have a bit of an "in" on some of this information.

My recruiter had told me around the last week of January. But I believe y'all haha.

So last week I met with my army recruiter who told me 100% that the board convenes on the 26th and that decisions should come out around 2 weeks later. They get unofficial results first but aren't allowed to disclose them until official results are released. He said there are 75 scholarships available as well.
