Go off king (queen? Minor royal?)Got the honors score on my SAEM exam. I am free.
My days consist of waking up whenever I want, waiting for my onboarding paperwork that never shows up, going for a walk if it's nice out, going to the liquor store every few days, getting takeout 1-2x per week and going to bed at 1am after a few drinks and a few episodes of whatever show I'm watching.I’m ready to get started. Off time is great and all but this time was going to be adventures and fun, instead I’m sitting at home day after day and an adventure is going to Walmart once a week.
I just finished a sub-i so im back doing what i do best... sitting and watching tv. (Im a sloth lol)I’m ready to get started. Off time is great and all but this time was going to be adventures and fun, instead I’m sitting at home day after day and an adventure is going to Walmart once a week.
Basically thisI'm being insanely non-productive right now but I keep reminding myself that I KNOW once intern year starts I'll be longing for these days so I'm still trying to cherish them lol
Same. I'm reading for fun, watching movies, cooking, drinking wine, taking care of my house plants, hanging out with my partner, listening to podcasts, meeting my Duolingo goals, working out a little bit each day. It's kind of glorious. I know it's coming from an immensely privileged place to say that. Obviously there is the anxiety associated with the pandemic as well. But I have friends who have non-medical careers who are finding some ennui from working at home and I think some of my "I could do this forever" is due to clerkship and sub-I perspectives from working long hours 6 days a week. And knowing that I'm going to be thrown into that again in July. You guys I love the lazy time off. I enjoy eating and sleeping. I enjoy spending time with family and drinking beer. I’m not sure how I’m gonna get myself to wanna go to work lol.

I will be moving to its home city too. Well it was nice knowing you all. That owl is gonna come for you come July 1.
Ive felt that way before every rotation too. I just like to be home lololYou guys I love the lazy time off. I enjoy eating and sleeping. I enjoy spending time with family and drinking beer. I’m not sure how I’m gonna get myself to wanna go to work lol.
I've always wanted to try out mturk but wasn't sure if it was worth it. Any tips?I guess why I'm so ready is the only thing I'm really doing is working on amazon mturk trying to bring enough in to cover my utilities for June and July. I won't get my first paycheck until the end of July and there isn't a lot of gas left in the tank lol
I can actually do ok with it, I use scripts, MTURK suite, to catch the higher paying stuff. Some days there’s nothing, some days theres a goldmine. I usually make at least $10/day, during the pandemic since I’ve been home I’ve been doing better. I’m at 135.00 from last week with at least another $20/worth pending. I’m at 41.98 today with 3 and a half hours of work logged in today.I've always wanted to try out mturk but wasn't sure if it was worth it. Any tips?
It’s a crowdsourced work website. People put up surveys or simple tasks for people to complete. Pay can range anywhere from a penny (usually takes less than 5 seconds) up to $30. The highest I’ve gotten from 1 survey was $25 in 15 minutes. What is this exactly?
I can't be bothered. I have nothing to say anyone from school anymore.Does anyone else snarkily respond to their school with forwarded emails?
I got this angry email that I need to turn a form in today because I’m past a deadline and that it was attached to the email. It wasn’t attached
I responded by forwarding them the email I sent in March and said,“The only attachment in that email was the doctors without quarters flyer. I assume you're talking about this? I sent it last month, but I'm forwarding it again.”
You can’t threaten me with professionalism now when I call out incompetence I already have my residency hahahaha.
They were going to hold my diploma if I didn’t send them this contact update sheet that I actually sent on March 24th. 🙄I can't be bothered. I have nothing to say anyone from school anymore.

Couple last kicks in the [emoji527] before you're gone. They were going to hold my diploma if I didn’t send them this contact update sheet that I actually sent on March 24th. 🙄
They’re also requiring us to sit through a financial aid webinar Friday that covers the same things that we already covered in online webinar series. I love doing pointless things.
I do that all the time, but I don't consider it snarky. I consider more like kill-em-with-professionalism. Two can play at that game.“The only attachment in that email was the doctors without quarters flyer. I assume you're talking about this? I sent it last month, but I'm forwarding it again.”
You can forward them this email with a note saying why you won't give them another penny when alumni relations comes knocking for a donation. They were going to hold my diploma if I didn’t send them this contact update sheet that I actually sent on March 24th. 🙄
I mailed my financial aid exit paperwork to my school from my home out of state where I've been quarantining and after several weeks they still have not received it. I really think USPS might have misplaced it 😡
Kind of a random question - I think my sleep hygiene has really fallen to crap. I want to get my sleep in order when residency starts since I know it'll probably take a hit at different points. Anyone have any tips on how to fall asleep quickly, get more restful sleep, etc?
Okay hol' up. They made you do your exit counseling BY HAND???
Things that have helped me: stick to a routine (aka do your best to go to wake up and go to bed at roughly the same time every day and night), don't read or do work or watch Netflix in bed (although I find reading or similar activity before bed helps get me to fall asleep faster) and if all that fails OTC melatonin, believe it or not, actually does help.
I know screen time is poor sleep hygiene but on some rotations I wasn’t going to be able to do the “no screens a half hour before bed” if I wanted to study sufficiently. So instead I associated different screen time activities with sleep, typically calming videos that I wouldn’t otherwise take the time to watch (cake decorating, cookie icing, embroidery). I chose the NYT crossword during surgery and the association is so strong that if I am doing the crossword in bed at any time of day I will start to feel tired now!Kind of a random question - I think my sleep hygiene has really fallen to crap. Congratulations!!! Did you end up getting the regalia or doing any of the graduation-y stuff you had planned?Well guys it’s official today. I am Samac, DO!
Side note I found this and am salivating:
Drinkworks Home Bar by Keurig, Single-Serve, Pod-Based Premium Cocktail, Spritzer & Brews Maker (Pods Sold Separately), Bar-quality cocktails, freshly made at the push of a button, 4 to 14oz Pours Amazon product ASIN B07QHVWF1D
My school gave the previous years a couple hundred amazon gift cards and I’m hoping they’ll give that to us too. If they do one of those bad boys is coming home to me.
I actually did get my regalia yesterday. Took some pictures and had my little ceremony. 🙂 it was nice to celebrate with family!Congratulations!!! Did you end up getting the regalia or doing any of the graduation-y stuff you had planned?

not bad.Just got an email from my now alma mater addressing some questions. First addressing that people had asked about refunds for graduation expenses and he pointed out that graciously tuition hasn’t increased in this time and then said this:
“Finally, xxx mentioned that someone wondered about a “gift” from the college to each graduate. In checking with other medical schools, it was found that any graduation gift to the graduates was given from the Alumni Association, not the College. This is a practice that has been adopted by KYCOM”
so basically we’ve given every class for at least the past 5 years a parting gift, but we’re going to pass the buck onto someone else because we don’t want to anymore. Thanks for paying us 47,000 a year these past 4 years!
I can say they’ll never get a dime from me in alumni donations.
No kidding. I'm close to 300k in the red for this thing.not bad.
I'm pretty sure it's illegal for your school itself to give out graduation gifts. They can't take your tuition (usually paid for with loans) and then give it back to you in cash or valuables. That's basically money laundering.
What if they just called them scholarships? Ahahah, no that number is just tuition, nothing else. I’m over 300k in debt with my extra semester including all the loans. No kidding. I'm close to 300k in the red for this thing.

I can say they have been doing it for the past few years. The alumni association always gives a small gift and the school gives something else. I think they called it something special to get around everything, but we had a different dean thenI'm pretty sure it's illegal for your school itself to give out graduation gifts. I would like to think they’d realized something they did wrong previously and apologize and move on. I wouldn’t be upset about that.Or they realized they were doing something they shouldn't have been and decided to stop.
Always feel free to vent! My school is frustrating too.I would like to think they’d realized something they did wrong previously and apologize and move on. I wouldn’t be upset about that.
Instead that entire email was full of excuses for things they’ve done wrong around graduation. (Over half the class didn’t receive their regalia or diploma in time for the virtual ceremony. I was lucky).
If they realized they were doing something wrong I’m sure the excuse would be different.
They didn’t apologize for the regalia, passed the blame on to the distributors. Didn’t apologize for diploma, blamed it on the people who make the protective pieces of plastic. Didn’t send any of the academic awards, blamed it on mistakes in production. It was the most frustrating email I’ve ever seen.
sorry just wanted to vent somewhere.

I said it above in this thread but I shall say it again: now that I've graduated, I have nothing to say to those people. You should vent!
All med schools are just playing the game of pretending to care about their students, but we're just money to them. My school has us send in our questions and complaints to the deans every quarter and then they distribute written responses to the entire class. It's basically the same response to every complaint every quarter. "We're very busy pretending we care about this issue you brought to our attention, but in reality, we don't care, we will not change anything, and you are going to have to deal with it." It makes my blood boil every time.
I definitely will in the politest terms. This is a reminder to all graduating M4s that the most important thing you can do isn't ignoring the school or not giving them money. It is actually telling them harshly exactly why you won't ever give them a dime... And it will make you feel a bit better too.
