I felt like we should get our own thread, instead of hijacking other ones haha. Anyways, if you guys are out there, join the thread! I was at the end of the table by the food (also the one that was asking Dr. Davis all the questions during his presentation, if that helps put a face to the description). Good luck everyone!

And if you jump on tonight, the answer is "No." I have not found out yet haha

Nope. Nothing so far :/ I am the Rutgers kid.

I was there also, was nice to meet you guys. I was the asian guy from NY (think I was the only one from NY at all surprisingly).

No news yet also.

I never asked you guys - what kinda dentist do you wanna be? general or a specialist? just curious.

No response yet here either. 'Twas a pleasure to meet you guys. Best of luck to everyone.

Definitely wanna specialize, but I want to explore my options and make an informed decision.
PS: FrostyFlakes, do you mind giving us a description of yourself? I am the one from Rutgers, the Biomedical engineer. It was nice to meet everyone from that interview group. :D

From Penn State. Sat in front (Dr. Davis' side)

Hope to see you as classmates.

I'm trying hard to put a face to FrostyFlake. I remember "Tall Guy," "Miami," "Canadian," two Asian girls - 1 with glasses and 1 without, "Guy who got into UCSF who was from the VA," "Jewish girl who was talking to guy from VA," and 2 Asian guys - 1 shorter than RalphMouth and 1 about the same height. Please don't mind my nicknames, but were you by any of these awesome people, FrosthFlake?

FrostyFlakes was sitting directly to my right (only PSU guy there to my knowledge) and yes was shorter than me. I'll use nicknames/descriptions also because I don't like revealing people's real names (also I don't remember like half the names lol).

From my recollection there was Oonjuk, Miami, Tall Guy, VA guy, white girl with huge pink bag luggage (probably the one who was talking to VA guy), faux Canadian asian girl from Mass, asian girl no glasses who got into tufts, asian girl with glasses from NC, asian guy my height (I think he was from CT), Frosty Flakes, and taller asian guy with glasses (I forgot which state he was from I want to say it was another New England State because I remember him and CT guy talking about their drive in).

I came up the elevator with VA guy, Frosty Flakes, CT guy, and other new england guy.

That is how the scene unfolded for me. Conclusion: Imrealgerman did it in the study with the revolver.

This was probably the funniest post I've seen on sdn from start to finish haha.. "faux Candaian asian girl from Mass" - I remember her, because she was from "close to Boston," but if she said she was, then people from Boston would take offense. I remember the one from NC. I think I remember one of the guys you're talking about, because his hairdo reminded me of Bolo Yeung (such a bad***** bad guy!) - he was the shorter one I remember. The one about your height had no glasses, I think!

Conclusion: I've never played that board game, but always wanted to!

We are officially 3 weeks in without news :xf:

I do not know if it will make you feel better or worse but i interviewed a week after you and i have not heard anything either.

The way i look at it, many people heard on Jan 1st and Jan 20th so it looks like Columbia likes to develop a large selection pool before sending out new acceptances. I would have expected to hear this Friday or next, that should be about the same time frame between batches.

Sisero68, I interviewed 1/27 also and have not heard anything yet. Are you the guy that is into old cars and went to Buffalo for UG and Grad?

2/3 interview here. I (unsurprisingly) didn't hear anything today.

Hockeypro, yes that was me, though i am going to Binghamton for my Grad work. I was trying to think who you might be but i don't recall anyone talking about hockey...

Good Luck, i hope we hear soon.

Sisero68 I was the guy sitting right across from you. Have you checked out topgear UK?

ahhh, that helped and thank you for the reminder... im checking out season 18 now on youtube. You are right US does not even compare to UK TopGear.

Any other TopGear than the original UK TopGear is not worth watching ;)

Who knows, maybe we stand a chance. It seems that quite a few people interview in the spring out of interest in the school, rather than an intent on matriculating. Maybe some will have committed elsewhere while waiting to hear back lol. I still can't wrap my head around Dr. Davis' statement that Columbia isn't a top choice for many applicants, because it is not a safety school by any means.

Hey, quit being fixated on a line, which is completely out of context! He was being quite honest about the numbers for applicants/interviewees/accepted. As you may have noticed or by what he pointed out... Columbia has accepted more students than what they need to matriculate but that is pretty normal for any dental school out there. Is there any school out there that has never been rejected by a predent? There are people out there that turn down Harvard too you know ;)

Anywho... his point being that there are good schools out there even though Columbia is a great school but some people turn down Columbia for monetary reasons (tuition) or for various other personal reasons. Nevertheless, he proceeds to point out that the tuition for Columbia is actually not as crazy as many people would like to believe by pulling out his chart as evidence that the tuition is actually average in comparison to all of the other schools out there. This is his effort to persuade you that the cost isn't as bad as you'd think and that you should choose Columbia if you do get in!

What I mean is that I expect a higher percentage of students committing than the 50-54% you see online. I'm not disagreeing with his statement; I just can't imagine a student turning down Harvard or WashU med anymore than Columbia. People do what they do though..

omg cutest thread ever! I wish I kept in touch with my interview group. I'm really curious where everyone will end up, and everyone seemed really smart! Good luck to all of you 1/20's!

Everyone has their own reasons for why a school is their "top choice".. lots of people stay at their state schools because: it's cheaper, they've gotten too comfortable, they're closer to home, ect..

understandable.

I think it's usually the money issue. I also met few people who said they were worried that they will be too distracted to study while living in NYC.

Well I ended up emailing about my status, because NYU wants $1,500 by Wednesday and I'd hate to send that and then be completely broke for a possible Columbia deposit. Hopefully they understand my plight and don't see me as an annoying kid. I'm praying to the same God that Chuck Norris prays to on this one (as well as Chuck Norris himself) :scared:

Note: I know someone will be tempted to say "You should have just sent it to be safe and avoid the email," but I work at Wal-Mart and $11 an hour means they can ask me to clean a bathroom destroyed by an angry customer, with a highly explosive form of incontinence. So yea, not exactly swimming in the kind of money needed for multiple dental school deposits. lol.

I interviewed 1/27 and just got an email today saying that I am on the alternate list. So what are the chances now? Did anyone else get any news?

Same. Interviewed 2/3. "Unranked alternate list"

I got waitlisted today as well.

Anyone know how long the waitlist is/the likelihood of getting off it?

From predents it seems like columbia doesn't really reject people after the interview. I guess that means the waitlist is probably pretty long?

I got was waitlisted too. Everyone who heard back today either got waitlisted or rejected, so I think people who hasn't heard back maybe got in? Anyway, I got one more school to hear back from but so far I only got waitlists :/

Still no word. So people got rejected today? Is that still done thru email?

Sent my deposit to NYU, so I'm 95% sure I won't be at Columbia. Good luck guys and gals.

Good luck at NYU KH. Now where am I going to hear random walmart stories from?:(

NYU seemed great during the tour and I did like it there. I'm gonna hold out for Columbia though since I already have another deposit down at NJ.

When did you send in your deposit?

my understanding is that the 1500 one was due on the 7th of january, and the 3500 one is due on april 2nd, at least for early december acceptances. Anyone want to confirm to put us all at ease? lol

RalphMouth, I think we'll all be close to one another so you will always have convenient access to my nightmarish tales of the modernized slave labor I endure, as well as the customers that act as leeches to the little bit of color in my life.

To Demps and Dandpez337, I mailed it today ($1,500) because today was the deadline that it needed to be post-marked by. The second deposit of $3,500 is due April 2nd. However, I was accepted on February 1st so my deadlines may be different than someone accepted earlier or later.

I got waitlisted at Columbia btw, but I never got the email. Dr Z emailed me a response to my first one letting me know. I don't think anyone got accepted - they may truly want to wait until the interviews conclude because they know that if we're still holding on, that we will likely accept an offer and like Oonjuk said in another thread, they do not want to miss out on amazing applicants later.

If NYU let's me do research there this summer, then I will not give that up for Columbia. So I may change my mind, since Columbia's combined deposits are lower than NYU's second, but it depends.

Just wondering, but if you didn't get the waitlist email, does that mean they didn't ask you to send back the waitlist form?

imrealgerman: I think we all got the most minute amount of your crazy Walmart stories. WE NEED MORE!!! :D And as Penny321 has mentioned, did you get the waitlist form? There is a paperwork that you need to fill out to stay on the waitlist.

yea I was accepted on 2/1 as well. I received a confirmation email today that my deposit was received.

looks like we will be classmates. See you in the fall man.

Demps - did you join the fb group? PM me and I'll let you know which one I am.

Offer made from Tufts :D Although it's a conditional acceptance until my background checks are cleared ;)

Congrats again! So if this gets revoked, I'm gonna assume you did a series of criminal activities that makes the Grand Theft Auto video game series seem like a misdemeanor and Scarface seem more Nickelodeon than Noir (Tufts, if you are reading this, I am joking. Add as many "lol's" as possible to this paragraph, if need be).

lolololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololol!
