Let's goooooooo! Non-traditional career-changer, former Cornell undergrad.
ayyy I wasn't a Cornell undergrad but I am a non-trad career changer too. I think it was one of my biggest strengths as an applicant last year

Hi everyone! I know every year applicants are always wondering when they will hear back from schools. This past cycle we had no interviews and offers were extended through the portal on 1/11! Obviously no guarantee that the timeline will stay the same but hopefully it will give you somewhat of an idea🙂

Same! Also joining the class of 2028 at Cornell, so excited to meet you and everyone else this fall!

Has anyone had any updates from the applicant tracking page? All I see when I log in is what documents I’ve submitted. It looks different from my applicant portals at other schools, so it just makes me a bit nervous that I may be missing something.

You will not hear anything from Cornell until your acceptance or denial in January. The portal doesn't actually update

Does anyone know (maybe from previous cycles) when Cornell updates the portal? I know it’s in January but is it early or mid to late January? I also heard they are known for calling applicants that have been accepted, does every accepted applicant get a phone call or just a few?

Mid January. Accepted applicants get a call.

I think for the most part accepted applicants get a call, but I have a few friends last year that just got emails/portal updated (maybe their phones routed unknown callers to spam or something)

Should I update admissions that the paper I listed on my application (submitted status on my application) recently got published? When I was emailing someone back and forth about a prereq, they eventually said time to move on but with a smiley face emoji. So would sending another email help or hurt me lol?

I don’t think they accept updates after VMCAS unless it will involve a pre-req course not being completed or something that makes or breaks your application. If you applied to like the PhD/DVM program, then maybe that might be useful in determining if you get an interview invite or not

Based on this, I’d encourage you to let it be and not recontact them. If you listed it, they know it was a possibility it would be published, and I agree with vampyrica that they’d be unlikely to forward this information on to the admissions committee anyway as it could be considered allowing you to improve/add to your app after submission, which they don’t allow. I’d keep it as a feather in your cap for any interviews you may get at other schools if you applied! Congrats!

ETA: some schools, I don’t know if Cornell is included, have clauses stating that they can factor in any communication with admissions staff into their decisions. Considering your statement about their response, which seems like a polite but firm redirection, I’d personally avoid recontacting. As someone who’s worked in hiring and with research applications, this is also just being considerate, they are busy and this new development is unlikely to move the needle on your app enough to be worth the risk of backfiring, especially if it was clearly communicated to you to avoid further updates per their previous emails.

Oh wow I didn’t know about that clauses! I just figured it would not look good to be emailing admissions on the daily. Do you know which schools have that clause?

ik Virginia-Maryland says all your emails with admissions people go into your application file. Also, this was like three emails before VMCAS was due about if they’d accept a class substitution. I was worried that not having all the planned prerequisites approved beforehand would result in an automatic denial like with some other schools but apparently that isn’t the case. But, yeah I agree the benefit isn’t worth the risk

Yeah, I’ve seen it with a few schools, don’t remember that on Cornell’s page.

My apologies! I thought you meant that it was a recent conversation. I misinterpreted; either way, I would just wait it out. I think getting a submission at all is impressive!! Best of luck!!!

I believe Virginia-Maryland and CSU have info on their websites about it, can’t remember if there were others. I just always assume when I’m emailing that it could affect my application record in some shape or form.

congrats on your paper! I also applied to the DVM/PhD degree so good luck!! 🙂 I believe there is a thread for dual degrees!!

I've added SDN to my bookmarks to watch my school's threads. I can't help but to literally lose my mind a tiny bit thinking of every possibility of getting in/not being considered. The portal we should look at in January is the Cornell Tracking Page thing right?

Yes. You will receive an email stating that there is an update when the college uploads the letters. You can go right to the portal to look. Historically, Cornell admissions calls those accepted- but if you do not get a phone call prior to the update email do not fret! I know plenty of folks who have gotten the acceptance letter first and the call later that day or even in the week.

Hey guys! I am a CO 2028 student who also did undergrad here at Cornell. I wanted to just share that historically, acceptances have been released on or around the first business day after New Year's. Last year was a bit of an exception for a few reasons (I spoke to someone on the admissions team about it recently), including the VMCAS application extension that occurred plus some other minor unrelated factors. They didn't do phone calls last year for accepted students, but anecdotally plan to this year and usually do. Good luck everyone! 🙂

So it could be the first?

Do you happen to know how long after CVM acceptances people find out if they got an invite to interview for the combined programs?

I just asked a friend, and she said around mid-January you will learn if you were selected to do an interview. If you are invited, you come to Cornell for an interview and will find out if you got in two weeks to a month after that. She applied after the end of her first year to the program, but apparently the process is the same either way!

Does anyone have any idea what accepted OOS average GPA has looked like in recent years? I wish they published the data!

I saw someone in an old thread saying the average was 3.8,, not sure how accurate it is, but I would expect it to be relatively high for OOS

Is there anyway to see how they’ve calculated our pre-req gpa? I tried to do it manually but unsure if they would do it differently. Ex, I took AP Bio in place of Gen Bio, but have 2 higher level bios that I got A’s in that I’d hope they’d calculate into the gpa.

No there’s no way to know. They might calculate the highest grades but I’m not sure. They said my Pre-Req GPA last year was a 3.6 but idk what they counted

Does anyone know how much our GPA is weighed into consideration? Only thing I’m really worried about and questioning if it was worth it to apply to Cornell. My gpa is good but definitely not a “competitive” gpa. I make up for it in other parts of my application.
