cornell?

i just found out I got into Weill over e-mail

"Greetings and Welcome!

On behalf of our Committee on Admissions, it is my pleasure to let you know that you have been selected for an offer of admission to our 2008 entering class. An official letter will be going out on Monday to the address you provided as a preferred mailing address to AMCAS. Please let us know by return e-mail if that address has changed..."

Why do all NYC schools hate me?!?! NYU: waitlist, Mount Sinai: waitlist, Columbia: heard nothing, Cornell: heard nothing. Sad.
Congrats to everyone who got the email!
I'm going to go soak in a pool of my own self-pity now...

ummm at least they all interviewed you, that doesn't show a ton of hate. They seem to feel luke-warm about you. I wanted nothing more in life to move back home to NY...but it appears that's not in the cards for me either. I didn't expect to get in, but this was still a huge huge blow for me. I didn't imagine it would actually hurt this badly.

Congratulations to everyone who's gotten in! I was just curious if anyone who interviewed in late february has heard any news.

I would love to find out that they have not reviewed the mid/late Feb interviews yet.

An earlier poster said that someone after him/her got in, and I think that poster interviewed in late Jan. But any Feb people get the good news.

Congratulations again.

My husband (the applicant) is going to kill me, but I just called to ask if all acceptances have gone out. The very nice woman on the phone said "Oh no, not at all" and said that decisions would be made through the end of the month.

I don't know if she means just on people who are still interviewing, or if there is hope for everyone else.

Please, please, please, a little good luck for all of us!:luck::luck:

Not to be the cranky old lady here, but I believe that is what the secretary in the admissions office said to callers the last two years after the march batch of acceptances were handed out-- and it doesn't look like anyone ever actually got accepted in 'later rounds'.

So, GOOD LUCK to everyone here, I really hope it is true, but I wouldn't get your hopes up!

I'm grateful to have nyu and mssm, but i really liked cornell. My interview was so - so. I'm assuming that this means rejection. I don't see why they wouldn't send out all of the acceptances in one batch 🙁 congrats to those that got in.

In as well!!! OMG so out of the blue!

Congrats to those accepted...and best of luck to those waiting!

Does anyone know when those who got accepted will actually receive a big envelope? I'm part of the December-notification crowd, and I only got a letter saying "Hey, you wanna come? Cool, let us know, thanks bye." Now I'm just waiting, not really sure what for.

Judging from how many folks here got the acceptance email, and assuming only say 10% of applicants are on SDN, it seems like they sent out a ton of acceptances today. Granted I could be 180 degrees off, but I think it is best for some of us to now consider our other options and not get too excited about Cornell.

Got my acceptance email yesterday too! I interviewed on February 19th. Good luck to everyone!

I don't see why there's no hope, since people are still interviewing until next week. They'll probably want to compare all the candidates before giving out the last batch of acceptances.

Anyone want to go through the Cornell posts for this year and see how many post interview kids are in / out and on what date. Might make a nice list here. I may do it later if I get a little bored =D

Just to help you out a little:

Interviewed Jan 28th, accepted 3/7 by e-mail. Totally unexpected since I thought decisions didn't come out until late March. I wonder if 3/7 was a small batch and more are coming later... seeing as interviews are not over?

Good luck everyone!!

why has it been so quiet in here? Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed-- there were much healthier levels of sweet, comforting denial in the Columbia thread.

I suspect another batch will go out this Friday. There are still people interviewing this week. It's not over til it's over. :luck::luck::luck: St. Patrick's day luck to us all 🙂

I m a little disappointed the way Cornell goes about with their admission process. They accept a select few in December and then accept another batch unexpectedly two weeks ahead of schedule while they are still interviewing. What's the point of calling them a non rolling school. Anyway, needless to say I m sure I ve been rejected because I interviewed there the 2nd week of interviews in September.

I agree, Tropicana100! Wouldn't that be a great St. Patty's day gift?!?

It may suck for most, but it's pretty smart for Cornell to accept people in December. It's almost a guarantee that those people will end up at Cornell. Once I found out in Dec. I withdrew from a couple places and I've had about 3 months to fall in love with the place. But the funny business going on now, that's a little unnecessary, I agree.

tropicana is that something you've heard or somethign that you are just hoping for. Regardles, I am hoping for it too! :0

I really DON'T want to get my hopes up, but I called the Cornell admissions office and asked if they'd given out all their acceptances. They said no, they hadn't. I asked if it's too late to send a letter of interest, and they said no, it's not.

Any changes on the status page ("Correspondence has been mailed")? None for me.

Last Friday when I called they also said they hadn't sent out all their acceptances.

Wouldn't it be nice if they only sent out a very small batch last Friday (and they all just happened to be people who post on here)?

:luck::luck:

^wishful thinking... 🙁

plus, they probably only said that because there were still people interviewing. if (as in my case) it's been a long time since the interview, it probably means bad news is in the mail...

i find it really bizarre that you got an interview at cornell but not NYU. I got in to NYU, but got rejected with no interview from Cornell (and I actually go to cornell undergrad). This process is crap.

it's pretty clear that not all of the acceptances have gone out. they have yet to decide on the people who interview this week and those from last week. when then decide on them, i have a feeling they will compare them with all other candidates rather than simply voting yes/no. that's why my intuition says there's still a lot of hope. i know some of you like to be pessimistic so when you get bad news, it won't sting at much. that's your personal choice hehe. :luck::luck::luck: i'm an optimist.

Somone else on this thread (who knows an M1) said that Cornell is interviewing through March 20th. According to your logic they would certainly not send out another batch of acceptances this week-- it wouldn't be until the very last week of March (24-28).

I talked to a friend who is a 2nd year and he said that they are interviewing until march 20th, and not to expect decisions til the end of march or early april

sorry- this is the quote i am referring to...

here's to hoping there is some truth to this!!

i agree 🙂 quite possible.

They are clearly going to send out more acceptances since they're still interviewing, but i feel like for me, having interviewed in november and not getting in in december or last week, it's probably not going to be an acceptance for me. I do find it strange though that there were more SDNers with december acceptances than there were with acceptances last week; that tells me that there are still quite a few acceptances to be given out.

They've GOT to have a good email waiting for you (I don't know if a large email has the same connotation as a large envelope)! Don't give up :luck::luck::luck:

...when the lady says that they're still giving out acceptances she could just mean acceptances off the waitlist after May

unless you specifically asked for initial acceptances?

it's pretty clear the lady meant initial acceptances. otherwise, why would she state the obvious?

I mean I'm hoping you're right; I haven't received any word yet from Cornell (int. mid-Nov)

But, admissions people are sometimes charged with hiding hard truths from people and must often be less than completely open with the facts.

keep your head up! seriously i don't think admissions people "lie" when you ask them an important question haha. here's to hoping for the best! :luck::luck::luck:

My status page changed today to say "An admissions decision has been mailed to you. Please contact us if you have not received it within two weeks." Based on last year's thread, it should be a waitlist letter. Anyone else get the change?

mine says that too, how do you know it's a waitlist and not a rejection?

I think last year's physically mailed decisions were in the order of waitlist then rejections a few days later. There's 2 or 3 threads from last year which you might look to for confirmation.

No change in mine either...yay for silent/delayed rejection.

I wouldn't bet money on it or anything, but last year there were people who got this message first and then people who got it several days later. Those who got it first pretty much all got waitlists. Those who got the message later were mostly rejections. But there were some exceptions as well.

I got the same msg and I received an acceptance email last Friday.

Yeah it doesn't matter for those who are accepted. It just means they mailed your acceptance letter. The speculation comes in for those of us who weren't accepted, because supposedly waitlists and rejections were mailed in two separate batches last year.
