CSU Admissions Portal--Now Open

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
my friend went to talk about her status and the advisor said that even if you are considered a 'colorado resident' doesnt mean that you'll get in-state tuition.

just thought you should all know. theres only a certain number of seats designated for residents to pay in-state tuition.

good luck everyone!

Combined program applicants check your status, my expected deny status is up now! 😉

Onward to phase 3, it would seem.

wait what?! is that positive or negative? I'm confused! I don't know whether to congratulate you or console you??

I too am confused. 😕

Nope I figured it out! Nyanko didnt get accepted to the PhD/DVM program is getting passed on to DVM round 3. This outcome was anticipated...and has a positive attitude about it.

And in all honesty if I get denied by any and or all of my schools I wouldn't be surprised.

I was also denied admittance into the DVM/PhD program. Onwards and upwards...

Is it possible to apply to the DVM/PHD program along with the DVM program? I thought it was an either/or deal.

If you apply to a combined program (at least at any of the 4 schools I applied to), your application is automatically considered for admission into the DVM program if you don't get accepted into the combined program.

CSU matches up the least with my research interests out of the places I applied, that's mostly why it was an expected outcome. Also my mediocre/bad undergraduate GPA.

edit: I see I'm in good company, at least. Sorry to hear it, HandD42!

Got it! Thanks everyone.

I'm sorry you guys didn't get into the combined programs but good luck with the DVM evaluations!

Hmm, my expectation that rejection sucks has been confirmed. And now all of my fears of why my application sucks also seems to be confirmed. Fingers crossed there will be some better outcomes at the other schools.

My bf repsonse to the news: Huh, we didn't want to move to Colorado anyway.

BF are the best aren't they?.....

lol my BF is already saying that same thing even though i haven't received my rejections yet. He doesnt want to move to anywhere cold

Oh....wish I had known that! I thought it was either/or as well and figured I had a better shot with the 'or'.

Oh well. Sorry to those that didn't get the combined but hey, still another chance!

Good luck to everyone on their applications! We're routing for ya!

I just got an email saying that my application was complete.

This info about notification was included (looks like I should stop looking at my status on the admissions portal every day):

** Please check your admissions status using the DVM Admissions Portal during the last week of December (after DEC 28). - for non-sponsored

I just got the same e-mail. I just about had a heart attack when I saw it. Good Luck!! :luck:

I got this email too... I almost had a heart attack when I saw it in my inbox (expecting it to be either good news or bad news).

I don't know about you, but I doubt I will be able to stop myself from checking my status every day. 🙂 I am officially a CSU DVM Admissions Portal junkie.

I got this email too. We have to wait until after Dec 28th .... boo. I was hoping to have something to celebrate by Christmas. Well, I guess I can stop obsessively checking my status for awhile.

it says after december 28, but keep in mind some of the other schools who interview sent out interview invites 2-3 weeks before the date they said they would. so you might hear of the csu decision before the 28th. 🙂

I got that same e-mail today. I guess it's official, phase 3 is underway. Here we go!

:scared:

My thoughts: Damn it I should have mentioned x,y,z. And I forgot about a,b and c. :meanie: And I made I dumb typo in the third sentence, second word of the first question of the supplemental. :bang:

CSU is the smilie and my app is the banana: :diebanana:

Oh well, here is to hoping dreams come true!! :xf:

colorado isn't a realistic choice for me, but i'm happy to know that they liked something about me to keep me another round. :luck:

Why do you say it isn't a realistic choice? I know that CSU is difficult to get into but if you pull up my successful applicant thread from last year, you will see that they do often accept the underdog. Don't count yourself out. Good luck!

I wish Colorado would stop freaking me out with all these random e-mails. Today I got an e-mail to take a survey about their portal and just seeing Janet's name in my inbox almost gave me a heart attack.

Can anyone fill me in? I haven't been keeping up with this stuff....

Has CSU sent out any acceptance/rejection letters for the DVM (Vet School?) program? I heard they were doing it by e-mail too; so has anyone gotten any of those yet?

A few people have been rejected from CSU already but most of us are still waiting to hear from them. They said that decisions should be made around Dec. 28th. You should log into the CSU portal. It has all the information.

The suspense is killing me!!😱 I cannot wait to hear from them!!

They will be sending notifications the week of Dec 28th. Also, this is the latest update on fall transcripts on the admissions portal for CSU.

12.15.2009 The Veterinary Admissions Committee will not utilize concurrent fall transcripts as part of the evaluation process. Only OFFERED and ALTERNATE candidates are required to submit fall transcripts (to be received in the CVMBS Dean's Office by January 20, 2010.)

I know! I feel like they must know by now. The school is probably closed for at least half of next week and they said that they will let us know the 28th which means right when they get back. Which also means they must know before they go on vacation....which means they should tell us!!!! argh!! The suspense is too much.

It's way too tough knowing you will know in a few weeks one way or the other. CSU is my first school I'll hear a definite answer from, then probably Cornell and NCSU. I just want to know already.

^^^ Yup.

It's driving me crazy. If I get rejected; it'll be months of more waiting....I think the last school I'll hear back from is in April.

You're on your 3rd attempt right? (Me too)

I find that each year it gets progressively worse. This time around it's like...."ARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH".

Indeed I am.

The first year it was horrible, because I didn't know about SDN til I found out about my interview and was googling for interview tips and then bam, finally had people going through the same stuff as me. Second year wasn't too bad, because I knew what to expect, and so far third year isn't toooooo bad but I find myself getting progressively more impatient with every empty inbox, spam e-mail, and junk e-mails (IE "FWD: FWD: So funny!!" from my grandma who just learned how to use e-mail lol) I get.

I know I can get in, it's just a matter of time, and all this time fooling around trying to make the AdComs agree with how awesome I am is just more time I could spend getting towards my end goal. But alas, the beat goes on.

Haha I literally was thinking the same exact thing earlier...

It's interesting to me how much the schools vary in their lag time. Michigan, which also does not interview (save for rare circumstances), hopes to get all supplementals back before Christmas and plans to notify people late Feb to early March. CSU is late December, Cornell is January. I wonder if their strategies for going through applications and making decisions are really different, or if there is a staffing difference . . .

Anyway, I concur that our heads might explode before this is all over with.:boom:

👍👍

I'm getting impatient and I didn't even end up applying this cycle! Good luck to everyone-- I'm rooting for you!

i'm getting sooooo neurotic waiting to hear from csu, that i'm about to :barf:

to feed my anxiety and neuroticism (word?), i went back to read my supplemental and found this gem in the special circumstances section:

As it is not customary for Japanese people to have middle names, I do not have one. Therefore, I have filled in “N/A” for the required middle name field for this application.

haaaaaaaaaaahahahahhahaha, that sounds sooooooo lame. and what's worse, i remembered that at the top of the supplemental, my name shows up as:

lastname, firstname N/A

they just wouldn't let me leave the middle name blank cause it's a required field (i tried to put a space in it, and it didn't work either).

sigh... maybe i shoulda filled out the disadvantaged section and write about how csu made me feel bad and left out for not having a middle name. not very accepting of diversity for them to not recognize that some people don't have middle names! 😛

hahaha thats hilarious! well maybe it will lighten up the adcoms when they read your app and they will let you in! CSU is a long shot for me as OOS but enen though the chances are slim but I can't seem to find it in myself to not think "maybe me," so I am in the same nervous boat

Hmm, really?? I don't have a middle name either, and I don't remember what I did... so of course now I have to go check...

hahaha I put "(none)." So my application says Last name, First name (none). 👍

Also, your whole post made me  , which I especially appreciate as I'm currently trying to cram the correct spellings of the ticks, mites, and louse into my fried brain!!

omg Minnerbelle that's amazing. 😀

I was also going to neurotically read my supplementals earlier today and I started looking through my Tufts app (which I wrote at the last minute, because I thought an extra month was "so much time to get that done) and I feel SO LAME. I wrote the art essay question and I just read through what I wrote and I was so cheesy. So cheesy. Like a huge ball of cheese. Who wants a huge ball of cheese as a vet??? <end freakout>

My question is: What do you all hate more? Not knowing when you might hear something (a la Penn which seems to claim that they just send out interview invites whenever they feel like it between now and march)?
OR having this early date creeping up on you (CSU - argh!) and making time pass sooooo slowly and yet so quickly?

I actually like knowing the date. Its been a while since I took psych 101, but aren't the animals that are shocked randomly throughout the day (as opposed to at a certain time) the ones that go berserk??

it pretty much feels kind of like that...👎

haha, my tufts supp essay is actually one that i narcissistically read now and then because i liked how it eventually came out. i started working on it 6 hrs before it was due, and finished it like 1 hr before it was due. but hey, huge ball of cheese is all good. i mean, people who love animals (a lot of your crazy future clients) are the types of people who love to hear huge balls of cheese. shows good understanding of your future audience

now... my ohio supp question (esp the one about my cheating ex) = trainwreck that i can't bear to look at without blushing and feeling totally embarrassed. apparently they liked it... but i'm still mortified nonetheless.

i def prefer the not knowing if you'll hear something over D-day. i feel like any minute now, my eyes are going to be twitching from the stress of waiting to hear back from csu.

haha, turnbackhelly, i love the (none). originally i put down "i don't have one," but then decided against it when i saw the:

lastname, firstname i don't have one

g'luck with the ticks and mites!

My OSU supp app is so bad. I just re-read my essays for my interview tomorrow and went 'why the hell did I write that?' It's so truncated and poorly explained; was there a character limit? I forget.

Lol yes that's how it goes and that's a very fitting analogy. Never thought of it in that light.

500 words i think.

i def rather be shocked randomly. cause then it would be like "ouch... what was that about??? oh well..." 10 min later "ouch.... quit it!"

rather than "oh no.... no no no.... don't do it.... please don't do it....!!!!"

I'm pretty sure I feel the same way about my OSU app, and my interview is on Saturday so I'll be forced to read through it as soon as I'm done with finals (if that ever happens). If I remember correctly, I think there was a 500 word limit for each question. Definitely not enough to address their awkward soul-searching questions... I'm already cringing over what I wrote and I can't even remember half of it!

I'm already cringing over what I wrote and I can't even remember half of it!

hey... at least it wasn't a "well i was being stupid and decided to move in with my loser boyfriend... he cheated on me, but being the sucker i am i chalked it up to it stemming from his insecurities and let it go... and i even extended the lease for another year"

gosh... what was i thinking!?

but u kno what though, talking about that was the highlight of my interview... so whatever you wrote can't be that bad

anyone else obsessively checking the admissions portal yet? or is it just me?
