Has anyone any news, rumour-riddled or otherwise, regarding the Dartmouth waitlist?

NOPE !!!

They are not even answering the phones !!

No phones, huh? Well then, what is the consensus on sending letters of continued interest? I have taken a completely "Stamps Off" approach as of yet, but I am beginning to reconsider this approach. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?•••••I think so long as those letters/envelopes are stuffed with enough Benjamins to go around [the admissions office], they should do the job <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> otherwise it may be a waste of stamps

The little neighbor kid is a "BENJAMIN." I wonder if they'd take him? (HOW SCANDALOUS!) :D

doesn't hurt to try <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />
you know, i actually asked the financial aid lady if i could bribe my way in...she laughed at me :( i think it's cause she had my income tax papers in front of her...hardly impressive <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

it's moving, it's moving! ! ! :D

Assassin,

Even better!! Congratulations    !!! Are you going to go?

thanks :) it would be difficult to decline their offer :D
good luck to you though - I may be one of the first, but most certainly not the last to get off the damn waitlist.

thanks again, feel free to join me :)

'Grats assassin for being one of the first to be accepted off the waitlist! You must have good karma. Since the waitlist was unranked, what did you do to increase your chances?

I bungled my interview and insulted my interviewer so my chances aren't good. But I'm still pessimistically optimistic.

I bungled my interview and insulted my interviewer so my chances aren't good. But I'm still pessimistically optimistic.•••••I haven't really done much - when i got the waitlist notice, I called and wrote a brief letter saying i'd be very interested in attending; when i got the waitlist reply card, I sent that along with another letter of interest (little more elaborate this time). that's about it...i still can't believe i'm in

and at this point I don't think your interview/interviewers matter...most of them are not on the admissions committee and have no input into their decision whatsoever after the initial recommendation.

good luck! I was extremely pessimisstic myself...but hey, I guess you never know

Andrew Welch just called me offering me a spot in next year's class. I think I'm going to take it. Good luck to all of you, especially Legend!

I think the gods of waitlists are treating SDNrs pretty well this season :D

Woowhoo!! I just got the call from Andrew Welch today too!!

I jumped up and down and yelled at work!

Congratulations oneironaut!

Do you guys have any recommendations concerning housing? I'm going abroad soon and coming back during the end of July. Would that be too late?

I was also advised by my student host to take the biochem qualifying test. You guys know anything about that.

This is my 100th post!

Congrats Brickmanli & Oneironaut!!!

congrats Oneironaut

so you people are set on going there for sure? :D

I seemed to have answered my own question. I found this website dealing specifically with housing at Dartmouth. Pretty complete. Check it out and fill out an application (you're not obligated to anything) at:
<a href="http://http://www.dartmouthre.com/shp_g_a.php" target="_blank">http://www.dartmouthre.com/shp_g_a.php</a>

Multi-super-extensive-expensive Cudos to everyone accepted off the "unranked" Dartmouth Waiting List. If you would be so wonderful, could you please let the hangers on like myself know what if anything you did (calls, letters, etc.) after interviewing that may have helped!?

Here's to you. Wow. I don't think many turn down Dartmouth class spots. I guess maybe it would take getting off the Harvard Wait List simultaneously, or somethin' like zat.

Thanks again! CONGRADS! :p

First I emailed my interviewers about my interest, and they said to write a letter to Andrew Welch. Make sure to make your letters personal, don't just summarize the brochures. Tell them how the small class size fits you the best. Say how you love nature and beautiful Hanover.

I also had my volunteer coordinator write a letter of recommendation, don't know if it helped. I would also going to write letters to my interviewers.

My weakness was the incompatibility between my wide research experience and what I wrote on my AMCAS essay (I want to become a rural doctor). So I wrote in the letter that I was volunteering at a hospital talking to old people, and how I enjoy talking to them and how I'm getting wiser.

•••quote:•••Originally posted by brickmanli:
• Say how you love nature and beautiful Hanover.•••••<img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> I couldn't lie about that one...and in my letter of interest said bluntly "I remain loyal to New York City" <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> "...but there is no place I would rather spend the next 4 years than at Dartmouth"
nevertheless, i was pretty elaborate in explaining why i wanted to be there (as much as i could fit on a single page)
also, send in your transcript (you'll have to anyway once you get accepted)
and do give them at least 1 call...if it's your top choice, say so; it may not make a big difference, but it can't hurt either.
other than that, i think it just comes down to luck...i have not done or said anything extraordinary, neither is there anything special in my file...i'm just one lucky dude :D , first time in my life <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

God, I can't wait to move to hanover.. :)

Assasin, Brickmanli, lemme know if you find any interesting tidbits out from students.. also I found this website for rentals from a local paper:

<a href="http://www.vnews.com/class/index.htm" target="_blank">http://www.vnews.com/class/index.htm</a>

Everyone else on the waitlist: theirs still lotts'o time left. Frostweasel, Legend, Roady, best wishes to all, and thanks for all the support! We have the best forum.

Oh, FYI, No. I hadn't written or done anything yet. In fact I was just putting the finishing touches on my 'please' letter when I got the call from Andrew. I did, however, repeat that Dartmouth was my favorite during both my interviews.

Good luck everyone and continue to post any new info for incoming freshman. I checked the Dartmouth Medical School website and the part for us is not set up yet.

I'm going to read this thread in Beijing.

Has anyone on the waitlist tried to call DMS and see where on the waitlist they are?

•••quote:•••Originally posted by altaskier:

So then, basically there is no way of calling them up and asking what your status is, right?

We should keep waiting.

Legend.....I like your joke!

Fellow DMS waitlisters,

I decided to register with SDN so that I could share some info that I think is pretty helpful. I am happy to announce that I was offered a spot off of the list yesterday. Anyway, I talked with the admissions office a couple of weeks ago and they told me that the more interest you show in DMS, the better. She told me not to call every day, but that I should call often (in fact, I was calling to bug them yesterday when Andy told me he had my file in his hand ready to call me). She (I think it was Mary, assistant director of admissions or something like that) also told me to send new transcripts and letters of recommendation that show me in a new light than the previous letters (ie: summer job, church associations, etc). She also suggested sending an update of what I had been doing this spring and what I would be doing this summer. Good luck to everyone else waiting, and if anyone has any good info on housing for families that would be great.

congrats btw, see you in the fall :)

Hey Congrats C3PO, in your acceptance packet, there is a little something about school housing for graduates with families. Check the other links on this thread to get a general idea of your options.

Thanks for the advice. I told my friends who were waitlisted not to just write a letter of intent where all they say is "School A is my first choice and I will attend if accepted." You have to put a lot of passion and a bit of histrionics into it. Email your interviewers and ask for their advice. Write as many well-written letters as you can, to Andrew Welch, and to your interviewers. They definitely wouldn't hurt. I think if you really want to go to Dartmouth, it will show in your letter. Dartmouth is nontraditional in that they like someone with an interest outside of biological sciences, so try to connect it with medicine. In my letter of interest, I connected my new activities with how they complement the atmosphere at Dartmouth.

Again, best of luck to all of you! Now go write some more!

Is the class full now?

I haven't contacted DMS for a long time now.
I am now anxiously waiting for my new MCAT score which should be available by tomorrow.

the following is a vent: (sorry in advance)
i just got back from my apartment scouting trip in the upper valley and i must say that despite my low expectations to begin with, i was still very much unpleasantly surprised with what i've seen. i've heard that getting an apartment there is not a big deal; and that is absolutely correct if [and that's one big IF] you're willing to pay a ****load of money for ****. some of the places i've seen reeked (in the most literal sense), others...well let me not get into it right now.
anyway, maybe my experience is an atypical one, perhaps i started looking at a bad time, or it's just my luck, but i went up there feeling :D and came back  and somewhat <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

I agree Assassin, it is very difficult to find housing. My wife called every possible opening for two strait weeks before we even found a place that would rent to us. We had to spend quite a bit, but we called some people that live in the same complex and they said it was nice. Good luck to all.

I got into DMS too :) . I got a call from Andy Welch last week. Just for those who are waiting, I interviewed in early Janurary and was waitlisted about 1 month later. And then, I recieved a call last week (in early June). As for housing, I haven't even tried that yet. I never thought housing would be difficult. I guess I gotta get on the ball.

See you all in August!
:)

Congrats to you all who've gotten in...
have pity on me.. for i am about to embark on the agnozing process myself... for 2003..
i just checked out this thread b/c i wanted to apply to dartmouth...
so.. my question to all of you who applied/got in...only if you want to reveal... what were your #'s? the average i saw on some source said MCAT:30

but somehow i feel like that's not correct..
well.. just wondering if i should try for dartmouth or not...

my stats are:
