If you are still in the bottom 1/2 after you graduate check out "fellowships/internships" for ortho programs. I can only think of Roseman and UOP but I'm sure there are more. Work hard for a year and show them you can be a great asset to their program and hope that you match with them.

Only advice I can give you is... not specializing in ortho does NOT mean you can't practice ortho! A common misconception that dental students have is, if I want to do __third molar extractions, implants, ortho, etc___ I must specialize. No, you don't! I work in an area where there aren't a lot of specialists and my GP practice owner has been working so long and has taken courses he's become a super dentist. More than a third of his patients are ortho cases-- yes he places brackets and does Invisalign! He knows his limits and refers appropriately.

I can't tell you that with your current class standing, that you have a strong shot at specializing, but don't let it stop you from practicing the way you want!

I will suggest find out in what you are good, if you feel so you have only aim to become orthodontist, Just do practice !! There is no shortcut..
