Any idea when that Navy list is coming out? I was told 3 weeks ago it was ready, and we haven't heard anything since. The civilian application process has begun, and it'd be nice to know if we should apply.

Apply you silly bastard! Look, it only takes a few hundred bucks and it is SOOOO critical to be in the first stack of applications when programs are giving out interviews. So. Incredibly. Critical. Do it and do it now; you can always withdraw your app and cancel your interviews later.

Don't know how things are working now, but I had a full deferment. They weren't announced until December. So I had already interviewed when the list came out.

Definitely put your application in. You can always try to put interview dates later.

I would apply to the programs and get interviews. It looks good when you can list off a bunch of programs to the specialty leader when asking for deferment. It will only help you to apply to civ programs and push your interviews back till after the JSGME board meets. I too am deferred. Hey MT PM'd you.

You can talk to the GME office. There are guidelines for what will be deferred. We won't know what is actually deferred until the board meets. In the end, set up some interviews and start the process, just don't spend a whole bunch of money on them.

Thanks. We actually got an email yesterday or the day before with the projected specialties, of which mine wasn't one. I believe the email said if your specialty wasn't on the list there was zero chance of you being deferred for it. I've set up some interviews for January. We'll see what happens.

To be safe, you should apply to a couple of prelim programs. Just in case you are one of the few unfortunately folks who gets a one year deferment. Better to find a program you like than have to scramble.

There will not be any one year deferments for Navy unless specifically requested.
