The Turku Clinical Biomaterials Centre ̶TCBC at the University of Turku (Finland) offers a fellowship in biomaterials science. The overall purpose of this fellowship is to increase the knowledge of biomaterials science and to prepare young researchers in this domain. TCBC's expertise is focused on non-metallic biomaterials in medicine and dentistry.

Starting date: September 2018, for a period of 24-month (although a 12-month fellowship might be possible).

Suitable candidates: the fellowship is open to dentists with good interpersonal skills. An excellent command of English is desirable (written and spoken).

Brief description of the fellowship: the Research Fellow will have the support of a supervisor to guide him/her in the creation of one or more research projects. A mentor will guide the Fellow during the process (designing and executing the studies, and reporting the findings in scientific venues). An expert in all aspects related to laboratory testing will be available. The Fellow will conduct a personal research project learning the basic tools of research methodology: designing a project, writing a study protocol, collecting and analyzing data, presenting the results at scientific meetings and writing manuscripts to be submitted to international peer-reviewed journals. The fellowship will be tailored to the Fellow's interests and needs. At the end of the fellowship training, the Fellow is expected to be able to conduct research independently.

Funding: the prospective Fellow must find his/her own financial support.

Information about the research group: TCBC is a dynamic research group in the field of biomaterials science. A state of the art and modern laboratory infrastructure is available, and highly skilled laboratory staff is provided for conducting high quality research. Supporting organizations for TCBC include Turku University Hospital, Turku Municipal Health Care and Social Services, Turku Science Park, Åbo Academy University, the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, and Turku University of Applied Sciences.

Director of Research Group: Professor Pekka K. Vallittu, DDS, PhD, FADM
