Hello,

I am confused and do not know what my next steps should be. I have made so many mistakes on my journey to be a doctor, partly due to lack of knowledge and guidance. Here are my stats if anyone can tell me what to do next. I know my MCAT needs work and I am preparing to find a tutor, but should I also take classes at my state school as a non- degree seeking student to raise my science GPA?

Graduated in 2013
Undergrad:
cGPA: 3.48
sGPA: 3.33

Grad at King's College London
GPA: 3.76

MCAT: 494 (125,121,124,124), previous mcat 491

Medical Experience:
Currently I am a chief medical scribe and junior project leader for ScribeAmerica. I have shadowed doctors in Urology, Primary Care, Sleep Medicine, Breast Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery. Over 1,000 hours in clinic.

Other Experience:
Research- over 1,000 hours from Master's program
Volunteering- Grady Hospital (300hrs), Summer food service program (500+hrs)
During undergrad I was in 3 honor societies and held leadership positions on campus ( RA, presidential ambassador, etc)

AMCAS 2016:
Applied to 11 MD, 1 DO
II: 1
Waitlist: 1

Please help! I do not think I should reapply this cycle until I have improved significantly.

Thank you!

You are entirely correct.
A retake of 494 puts you out of the running for most schools.

If you are a candidate for the 3 Puerto Rican schools that consider mainlanders or the HBCU's, you could be within range with an MCAT of 500.
Do not take the MCAT again until you are confident that you will get at least that!

Retake MCAT and aim for 500+. Apply to fewer (if any) MD programs and way, way more DO programs.

Thanks for the help? Is there any way I can improve my undergraduate GPA?

For MD programs, no. For DO programs, graduate courses will be included in your cGPA and sGPA. Your GPA is fine for DO.

You have two MCATs -491 and 494. It isn't your uGPAs that are the big issue. Your MCAT score is TOO low for any MD school
and probably too low for any DO school. Your average MCAT is 492-493. Your GPAs are low for MD but might be okay for DO but those MCATs are horrible. Did you study?

Yeah I used the Kaplan book set for the retake. I thought I could do it alone. Big mistake. I think a tutor would help.
