JP!!!!

How are you doing? Hows Colombus treating you?

PG

Columbus, Ohio and Doctors Hospital ROCKS!!!

I love doing rotations..... There's no better way to learn than to learn from experience.....

I'm in OB/Gyn rotation right now doing my 24hour weekend call.... I'm in the hospital. I'm up waiting for my patient to deliver.... Yup, I've delivered babies on my own with the supervision of a resident.... It's an amazing feeling.

Nothing like childbirth to brighten my day.... I am a bit torn between becoming OB/Gyn or Peds.... Only time will tell.

How are things in Des Moines? I'm sure you're kickin' tussy....

Gotta go.... I think the baby's coming....

JP--Whatup gangsta? You really like OB, huh? gyn surg and gyn onc are really appealing to me, but the malpractice is ridiculous, and the hours suck, I've heard. have youhad anyone's water break all over you yet? I've heard that's nasty. I've also heard that BV is one of the top three NARSTIEST smells a medical student will ever encounter, along with decubitus ulcers and perfed colon. How's charmaigne (sp?), is she out there with you? how's she dealing with the hours? take care, hope you don't have to work over christmas!

Hi Raj,

Yup, OB/Gyn I think has taken first place over Pediatrics at this point for me.... malpractice does suck, but if you work for the right practice then you're malpractice can be covered in your contract... As far as hours, again it depends on who you work for or with, how many there are of you in the practice to take calls.

As for BV, ironically enough I had to do a consult, out of all places, in the psych floor.... if you know it smells, then bring a mask .... I did 😀 So far I've experience other nasty, foul smelling things that are much worst.... I guess you simply grow a stomach for these kind of things.

Charmaine is out here with me and she is doing fine....

BTW, I'll be heading to DMU on February! I'm sure I'll get a chance to see some of you... it's a weekend though. I'll be attending the DMU alumni meeting....

Okay, gotta go....

I wanted to wish everyone a happy holidays!!! Take the break, you'll need it to replenish....

Later,
😎

You come to DMU!

Hey guys,
I'm still deciding whether I should go to DMU or AZCOM. Can anyone sell me about DMU? DO you guys enjoy living in Des Moines. WHat made you choose DMU over other schools?
Thanks

bcoach

OK, so my interview is a week from today. I was hoping that someone could help me on DO philosophy. I am just looking for a particular example of how MD and DO differ that would be appropriate for the interview.

Here is an example that comes to mind: A patient comes in complaining of back pain. MD: concentrate on back (x-rays, etc...) DO:not only do I check back, but also check legs, knees, ankles, and feet to look for something that is out of wack.

Is this example a true example and should I use it during an interview. Other examples would be helpful.

Is there anything else I should know about the interview/school before I go there (that is not on Int feedback)?

I just want to feel prepared before flying across the country!

Does anyone know how 3rd/4th years work for DMU??

Thanks,
Dan

P.S. Does DMU have a waitlist? Does anyone know how it works?

It is very likely that an MD would check your knees and ankles too to see if the alignment there is contributing to your back pain, but their approach would be surgical if they needed to treat the patient. A DO could use manipulation to attempt to alleviate the pain rather than resort to surgery to correct the problem.

So, to answer the question, DOs have the opportunity to use the manipulation to correct/help the problem instead of going to invasive techniques first. I hope this helps you.

Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums but wanted to mention that I received my acceptance to DMU and will most likely be there. However, I'm having trouble deciding between NSU and DMU......if anyone has any input that would be awesome. thanks.
😎

Please read my posting on Best DO schools before you decide to attend DMU. DMU had the second lowest COMLEX Part I pass rate at 80% and have had many problems with their curriculum. Ten people transfered out of that school and went to other MD or DO schools because of these problems. They also fired their dean because of many problems with his dealings with staff and students. The clinical dean got fired because he was screwing people on clinical rotations. Any questions please add more postings or email me. Thanks and good luck. I am sure you will make the right decision.

DMU had the second lowest COMLEX Pass rate at 80%. Don't be fooled by the advertising, nice staff and students. They have had many problems with their school. They fired both their dean and clinical dean. 10 students transfered to other MD/DO schools. If you have any questions please don't hestitate to email me or add a posting requesting for advice. Good Luck on your medical career.

Please reading my posting on the Best DO schools before anyone decides to attend DMU.

Where do you go to school, RipulPancal?

Our board scores were low last year, for the first time in 25 years. Appropriate steps have been taken to remedy this, including staff changes.

"Don't be fooled..."

WTF?

the students here are nice and friendly, and des moines is a very pleasant place to live. I got into a handful of schools, including kirksville, which many people consider to be the best, and chose DMU because it seemed like a good fit for me. I have no regrets, and I am positive that I made the right decision.

As far as board scores, they were lower all over the country last year. I'm not denying that our pass rate was low, but please give me a source on your "80%" figure, because we were told that for students taking COMLEX I for the first time, the pass rate was 90.9%, and even this was considered to be too low by the administration, and steps were being taken. Our pass rate in past years has been at or above 95%.

Anyway, RipulPancal, a big fat middle finger to you.

RajMahal

btw bcoach, I picked DMU over AZCOM, and I feel that I made the right decision. you have to pick the school that's right for you.

Raj

ripulpancal2000,
how do you claim to know so much about DMU? were you one of the students that transferred? just curious....also i'm curious where you got your figures. I've heard from just about every single person except for you that DMU is one of the top 3 or 4 D.O. schools.

Before anyone jumps on many assumptions.... please note that this is not the same person that many of you may think is the student that belongs in my class (2005)....

He has been contacted and I can definitely confirm that whoever this person is that they are blowing off hot air and taking down one of the nicest person in my class.

Reputation is held so high in the medical profession.... you are bound to see a person here and there that may feel the need to share their thoughts....

This happens year after year.... and many are miscommunication or exaggerated information that have blown off of proportion.

I can only do so much to assure you students and future candidates wanting to attend DMU that DMU is a very, very good school. Our reputation preceeds us in the clinical years and beyond....

The response from other current student to this ripulpancal2000 should show you what kind of students are at DMU. Who ever this person is, is merely sharing their thoughts (inaccurate as they may) and respectfully, I hope that ripulpancal2000 stop doing so until they get first hand information about the stats they have blurted out.

I've had my fair share of disappointments and blessing at DMU. I challenge someone to find a medical school that doesn't have any problems.... I assure you that every school has its pros and cons. I only hope that the students viewing this wonderful site are filtering out the good and bad information.... Making a decision based on their own recognizance..... and not base it on a single person and his/her opinion....

If there is any questions or concerns that future students may have, please don't hesitate to contact me and send me a private message.

Thanks JP, for taking the time out of your busy schedule and looking into this. We all appreciate it! 😀

Well I just called the admission office and they told me I would have a decision by this afternoon. I will be checking my email frantically!! I don't have a good feeling about this though...

:scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

I got my email today and I am IN YAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry to you Cmudan. I think I interviewed with you.

Congratulations svalenzuela02p!

See you in the summer at orientation, hopefully!

Blake

After much debate over the last few weeks. I've decided to attend DMU. Like many of you have said, it just seemed to feel right and comfortable. As well as it's just an all around great school.

Josh

 That's great news, Josh and svalenzuela02p!! I know how much you wanted to get in, sval. Rock on :hardy: :hardy:

what does it mean to be on the alternate list? does that mean that spots are filled up already?

No, it could mean that for some reason, the adcom was hesitant to offer an acceptance immediately. The waitlist moves pretty quickly though, so it doesn't mean you're doomed indefinitely.

Yaaa. I was interviewed on Jan 9th. And I actually heard (e-mail) on 1-21!!!

I thought that I would post that I will see you all in the fall.

wo-hoo! I never thought that getting in would be such a stress releiver...

Congrats dancinjenn, I look forward to meeting you in the fall.

Nice job dancinjenn! I look foward to meeting you next year. Now you can sit back and relax ... for hell will begin all too soon

I urge applicants to reconsider before attending Des Moines. This is not a good school. I can't believe applicants are being fooled by all of the silly lies from admissions. The admissions department is a machine of lies. This is the worst medical school in the US. Its a shame that this school this has its accreditation. They like hurting people and get a kick out of it. They should be ashamed.

I think the voices in Ripula$$hole's head are talking again. Any newbies to this site, avoid any message by this person, "rip" needs to come see me when I'm a psychiatrist.

Seriously though, what happened to you to make you this frustrated and bitter about attending DMU?? I am honestly curious about this.

Will you please support your dumba$$ remarks with some evidence. Everything you say has no supporting details. You just hate the school. You can hate the school, that's your own deal, but do so privately please.

 This just gets more and more ridiculous. Do you realize how insane you sound? "Machine of lies"? "They like hurting people and get a kick out of it"?? Go get some lovin, and Happy Valentine's Day!!

Although I am new to this site I have been reading it for over two years now collecting valuable information on schools and interviews and whatnot.

I have to agree with the general consensus that "rip" is off his rocker.

According to him the whole faculty and student body are in on this grand plan to lure unsuspecting lambs..ahem...students in to their medical school so that they can just get their money....{insert appropriate bad guy "greedy faces" and "hand rubbing}.

If that was true then the whole staff and student body would have to spend an inordinate amount of time holed up in their den of iniquity coordinating a vast number of deceitful lies {insert manic laughter here}.

Maybe "rip" should shore up the crumbling sides of his soap box with some duct tape and some actual data. This would normally include facts, figures, dates and times that can be substantiated by multiple people.

We are all obviously intelligent people here...It's not like I was sitting in my staff meeting at the local burger joint yesterday and the topics of discussion were: 1) Don't burn the fries. 2) Please remember that soap and water make you clean. 3) This weeks employee of the month gets to be a doctor at DMU. Good Lord!

Rip get a grip and leave us all alone to bask in the wonderful silence left in your wake.

 Jenn's cool!

Would you like to join us in our den and contribute to our deceitful lie-making? 😉

Can't wait to meet you all!! 😀 We just had an update, that the new building is right on schedule to be completed next March 🙂

I was waiting to see how people would reply to ripul's normal downplay of the school. I'm sure the response will be something along the lines of board scores of which they'll be no evidence (and gives different answers each time). IF what he/she says were even true as jenn brought up there must be a lot of people in on this great conspiracy. As many people have already said, something bitter has obviously happened to this person. The bottom line is a school is a lot what you make of it, hence why many people tell you to just go where it feels right. If ripul put as much time into his experience at school as he does writing these ridiculous posts then maybe it would actually be something he enjoyed. Oh well I gotta get ready to go off to the den later on this year.

Josh

I am not insane. I am on SPP for 2 years and I am a lot more superior than most of the other people supporting DMU. I know more than other people. Applicants should attend other schools.

I am sorry. I meant SSP instead of SPP. Ignore the typo.

Superior now, are you?

I'll let you know that at least 2 of us (of the 2007 class here on SDN) qualify for and applied for SSP just a couple of weeks ago. What the hell does that have to do with anything?? At a lot of other schools, the criteria and selection for new members is so subjective that it doesn't mean jack. Don't blow so much smoke up your own ass about "being in SSP and that makes me better than everybody". That is just the most irrelevant point. 🙄

BTW, to those who don't know what SSP is, it's Sigma Sigma Phi, the osteopathic honor and service fraternity.

Ripul:

First I'd like to say that it's good that you are able to succeed despite your negative demeanor, HOWEVER, intelligence does not always equate to common sense/reasoning. Even more than that, as mentioned in several previous posts your education is what you make of it and even if the school went through tough times that's no excuse to say the school is awful, especially since it is obvious they have made significant strides to correct the problem. That is not to say that you don't have the right to voice your opinions about the school, but you don't have to beat the point to death.

Oh...SSP.....I didn't realize.....I now bow down to your superiority

WTF are you? An aryan? Hiel Hitler.....

I am more superior than my classmates. I have done more activities and have accomplished more than my classmates. I will get in a better field than my classmates. I should not be in Athens right now. I should have gotten my first choice of clinical rotations because I am better than my classmates. After all, I am on SSP longer than the other SSP members.

You are like the squat n squeeze of the DO world...

Get a Life.

Ok, he is officially a troll!!

+pity+ It's too bad about you not enjoying Ohio CORE more. You shouldn't have ranked it if you didn't want to be there. Don't make the same mistake when you make your ROL for residency!

gee, I was taking your comments a little serious when researching DMU. Now I just think you're an a**hole.

I thought this thread was supposed to be a positive one. That was my intention when I made it. Let's pretend ripulpancal2000 doesn't exist and be excited that we are going to a good medical school. Can't wait to meet everyone.
