I received my portal access information yesterday. I can access the portal fine but can't login to the email box (it states invalid username or password). Anyone else having the same problem?

Thank you ungu! I'm sorry it took a while to reply to you, I'm not on here very often. Anyway, I can't wait to meet everyone either. Congrats to those who have been accepted...to those who were waitlisted, just keep your head up! You never know how many people they will take from the list or who will change their mind. I thought everyone from the December 10th group would make great physicians, so I'm sorry to hear that they didn't take very many people. I was the blonde girl by the way (the only one! lol) to reply to another person's comment from the December 10th group. It was nice meeting all of you.

If I recall correctly from the interview, each course has a certain percentage you need to get in order to pass. On your transcript, the percentage you get is reported. They also keep track of overall class rank and I think you get a rank for each individual course (but I'm not certain about that).

Does anyone know the grading scale/policy (Pass/Fail or Grades) they use?

Every grade is a straight up percentage score (70% = pass). You'll get an overall percentage based on your cumulative performance (weighted based on how many units each class is worth). That matters little, however, because nobody will look a that when evaluating your performance. You will receive an overall class rank at the end of each term, which is more significant. In the grand scheme of things, it's not that big of a deal, but it's easy to stress out about it.

Don't worry about this stuff too much yet though, just bask in your acceptance and know that you will get a great education over the next few years 🙂

I think I recall someone from admissions saying that they were only interviewing until the end of February, but I'm not sure. I think they're being careful to not enroll too many students because they did that last year.

They said that they will start tapping into the alt. list after the application cycle has ended in order to fill in any open spots. Does anybody have a ballpark figure as to how many people get waitlisted and/or what percentage of those waitlisted get offered a seat?

Congrats to all those already accepted! Iowa is a nice place to live.

Last year I think there were about 150-200 people on the alternate list. Of that 200 they took 0 off the waitlist. In fact, the class was overfilled by about 25 students.

Hey there! I'm looking into apartments as well ... and 3000 Grand looked VERY appealing. After doing more research, I noticed that the apartment was constantly getting low marks by tenants. Something like a 20% recommendation rating.

I saw that too, but I bet people that are upset about where they live are more likely to rant about it on the internet. I don't think those results are good representation of the entire population of people that live there.

I always lived 10-15 min away from campus. But plenty lived in 3000 Grand and really liked it. Some faculty even live there. A few people I know did not like the Imperial, small and old. West Des Moines has plenty of really nice, new apartments. Beaverdale neighborhood is all older, cute brick homes. I knew a lot that rented houses/townhomes from newly graduated residents, mostly in the suburbs of DM. Traffic is never very bad, but parking can get hairy if you come to campus after 9am. Always a place to park, just have to walk farther.

I live at Imperial and I really like it. My first choice was 3000, but the management there isn't the best and it is hit or miss if you get in (it fills up really quickly). The "DMU dorms" where it is mostly students that you should check out are 3000 Grand, Imperial Apt, Grand Prix Apt, Reilly on Grand Town Homes, and Windsor Terrace. They aren't penthouses, but most likely are better than dumps many of us lived in in college, and do their job. Many of those even have free internet provided by the school. A lot of non-traditional and married couples live in West Des Moines which is a commute and a lot nicer. But either way I say I highly recommend being close to campus as it makes getting around and being social much easier.

Sorry to hear that. This whole process is so random. You got accepted to Nova & I was waitlisted, but I was accepted to AZCOM & DMU who put you on pre interview hold/rejection. I guess you just never know what each school is looking for.

My interviewers were interested in things that were listed in my app, i.e., hobbies, medical experience, my first attempt at college (dropped out and came back). From asking around though, it seems that everyone had a pretty unique experience. For sure think about and have an answer of 'why medicine' and 'why DO.' I was asked this at all of my interviews. Also check out the interview experience thread, a lot of people have posted what they were asked.

Hey potential DMU 2015 classmates! I interviewed in mid-September and was accepted a couple weeks later. Up until 2 days ago, I was 100% certain I was attending DMU, but I got an unexpected acceptance from the University of South Dakota. Now I'm 50-50 🙁

I was VERY impressed by and felt VERY welcome at DMU. The sim labs were awesome and I even got picked to deliver the baby in the OB simulation. But USD is my home state school (cheaper), my wife's job outlook is more favorable here, and I would stay closer to friends and family, etc.

I'm stuck in a pickle. I'm revisiting both schools this month. Anyone else here have tough school choices and willing to share their thought process?

I feel you. Making this decision is one that will mold the rest of your life. I was deferred accepted to western last year and put $2K down on a none refundable deposit. This year i was accepted to UNE and will here from DMU soon. My girlfriend of six years works as a teacher in Minnesota.

DMU- close to home great school and awesome opportunities for rotations, but it is in Iowa
UNE- respectable school awesome location (I hunt, fish, snowboard, kayak, and want to learn to surf), but its extremely expensive and there is drama with the administration.
Western-$2K, affiliated with every specialty for residency, but far away and no chance my girlfriend would be able to get a teaching job in California.

DMU is my choice because I would get the best education there, easier on my relationship and would be able to do clinical rotations in Minnesota. The ocean isn't going anywhere and I could learn to surf later.
