Is it too late to apply to this school?

Hi everyone! Just got an interview to DMU. Pretty excited! I've been accepted to KCUMB, and the deposit is due Jan 15. So, can anyone tell me how soon DMU gets back to an applicant regarding acceptance/ waitlist/etc after the interview? Thanks so much!

I have just withdrawn my acceptance from DMU. It was a very hard decision for me. I hope my spot will help someone. Good luck everybody🙂

I also got into KCUMB and my deposit is due on the 15th. I'm still going to my DMU interview even though I know I have to put money down at KCUMB before I find out the decision from DMU. IMO, even if you put money down to KCUMB, but want to go to DMU, what is another $1000 compared to the amount of debt you'll be in after med school. Plus, DMU's tuition is lower, so it's not a huge loss.

I found out 7 days later.

They try to get back to you within 14 days. I heard back in just under three weeks. Good luck!

At DMU, do the interviewers make the final decision on acceptance, or do they just make a recommendation to another committee?

From what I understand, they interviewers make a recommendation to the admissions committee. The committee then makes a decision based on many aspects (your interview being one of them).

When I interviewed, I got the impression that the interviewers hold a lot of power in the decision making of your application.

For all of the rest of you alternate listers:

A friend who is a third year at DMU is close to the dean of admissions and asked about the alternate list, movement, etc. The dean said in past years they've taken as many as 20 students from the alternate list, and other years none; however they sometimes invite applicants to defer a year with automatic admission the following year.

So maybe there is still hope?

Yeah I'm almost completely certain I will be attending DMU. The other option I was waiting on was my state school and I was not very impressed. It took them 10 weeks to give me a decision and the interview day did not impress me. The only way I could see myself going there instead of DMU is if I was offered a full tuition scholarship which I don't see happening. Overall, I like DMU much better and am excited to attend class in the fall. Did you decide if you are going here yet or are you still deciding?

As far as scholarships, I was told the committee would meet some time in December. They will automatically consider people with specific GPA and MCAT (and probably other aspects later). There is no application to fill out for merit based scholarship. There are other scholarships available, some with applications, and they are posted earlier in this thread with links. I was told people who receive these scholarships will be notified via email and snail mail. There was no indication of when decisions will be made so it's anyone's guess.

That's great to hear. I have submitted my deposit and I'm sure that I'm going to this school. It was my first choice, my first interview and my first acceptance. I liked it from the beginning already but was even more impressed after the interview. Succeeding interviews in other schools made me appreciate DMU much more in comparison. The other schools that accepted me didn't impress me as much as DMU so I'm definitely going to this school this fall.

For those that were interviewed the past few weeks, do you guys think we will hear this week? I was told that they would try to get back to us by this wednesday (since they will be closed thursday and friday). They said if they dont get to us on wednesday they will get to us the following monday. I am just wondering how likely it is we will hear this week.

Ah... put on hold 🙁. No interview yet... Thoughts?

Just received the email decision (interviewed Dec. 10th)/.....Put on Waitlist..........grrrrrrrrr

Too bad, I really loved the school. I called the admissions office after I got the decision to get feedback on the interview and they said the interview comments were very positive and there were no complaints or red flags. My gpa is 3.7 and 27 MCAT. The woman in the admissions office said that my being waitlisted was most likely due to the fact that it is getting late in the season and their class is pretty filled already so they are only accepting a few students from each interview group, whereas they were accepting most interviewed students earlier in the cycle.

Anyone else receive a decision today?

Accepted!! I interviewed on Dec. 10th. For all of you who are accepted and plan on attending DMU I would just like to say congratulations and I look forward to meeting everyone next year. DMU is a great school and it has been my number one choice from the very beginning.

Also, for any of individuals who are still going through the interview process this year and having doubts about things like their MCAT score, GPA, or even legal troubles just know that by now they are out of your control. It is going to come down to the interview. I had a fairly low MCAT (25O) and some legal troubles in my freshman year of college but I displayed in the interview that I had a true passion for the field of medicine and DMU was my school of choice. With that said, just try to keep your heads up and be as comfortable in the interview as possible.

God Bless and Happy Holidays

Congrats on the Acceptance!!!

I will admit to being very envious of you.

I interviewed on the same day as you (Dec. 10th), and unfortunately I was waitlisted...

Can't really say why the chose to waitlist me instead of offering an acceptance. My stats are not amazing but certainly consistent with their averages (3.7gpa 27 MCAT).

I called the school after receiving the waitlist email to get "interview feedback" to see if perhaps my interview didn't go as well as I hoped. They reported that I had a great interview and that there were very positive comments regarding my interview.

So....I don't really know what happened, and I LOVED DMU and was really hoping for an acceptance. Sometimes this whole process seems so random.

Well again, congrats on your acceptance, I really am happy for you despite my own disappointment.

theone1979, I completely agree with you. Sometimes it does seem very random. As for my GPA I had above a 3.9 at an in-state university and a science GPA of 3.98, so that might of helped. Still, after hearing that a number of individuals on our interview date didn't get in I was very surprised. It seemed like everyone that day was very laid back and would make amazing physicians. However, I have a feeling that the waitlist will see more movement this year because of them overfilling the class last year. I bet they are trying to avoid that situation again by placing more people on the waitlist to begin with. Keep your head up and continue to send them updates. I realize you’re probably thinking that it's easy for me to say but I would love to do anything that could help someone else get in, especially an individual who really wants to attend DMU.

What are your guys names who interviewed on Dec 10th? I'm Andrew from that same interview day (Unicycle rider...). But anyways, I was put on the alternate list. Maybe it was the interview, because I can't say I nailed it as it was my first interview so nerves got the best of me for around the first half. I have a single MCAT attempt of a 29O, cGPA of 3.52, and sGPA of 3.74. ~85 hours shadowing across 5 physicians, Volunteer in an ER, International service learning to trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua, and work 40 hours a week in a biochem lab.

My name is David. I was the person who was asked where I was from about 5 times.

hey guys

I just want to confirm that DMU's secondary has no essays right?

Also, in the section about additional info that we may want them to know...is there a word/character limit or a font, font size, paragraph spacing requirement?

thanks ^^

That's right, there are no essays. I'm not sure about a word limit. Any formatting you add in a word document will be removed when you paste it in the secondary text box, anyways. I would just keep typing until it cuts you off (if you need that much). If you are worried, you can call the admissions office. They are very friendly and won't think your question is stupid.

I guess I thought those who interviewed on Dec 16th were supposed to hear by yesterday, even with holidays... but no word yet... I am anxious to hear back about their decision! Anyone else in the same boat? Anyone else who interviewed around that time heard yet? Is it by call, email or snail mail? Thanks!

Just withdrew my app and canceled my interview...hopefully that helps one of you...good luck!!!

Hey all, I haven't been on this forum at all yet. I was accepted to DMU back in September, I was in the first interview group. I'm wondering who else from that day got accepted. I've had a couple M.D. interviews since then and declined one at Western in Cali. It's crazy because I didn't know I'd love DMU as much as I did. I thought the U of MN M.D. school was my top choice but after my interview there, I decided on DMU for sure. See you all next Fall. I'm SO excited to meet everyone and see who I'll be spending the next 4 years with 🙂

Heard back from 12/16 interview! Accepted!!! I loved DMU, so pretty sure I'll be there in the fall 😀.

:soexcited: Interviewed on December 10th and was accepted!! I love this school. I'm still waiting to hear back from one other school but I'm pretty sure this is where I will be in the fall. I can't wait to meet everyone! Who else was accepted from the December 10th group?

Congratulations Dreaming2bdoc and everyone else who was recently accepted. I am so excited about DMU. I can't wait to start and meet all of you. 🙂

Hey! I'm currently a first year at DMU and know how long the process can be...first off congratulations to everyone who's been accepted - it's an amazing school and choosing DMU was an easy decision for me but if you have any questions about the school, the process or anything else...feel free to message me. Enjoy your summer and take some time for yourself before the busy life of med school begins!

Hi it's good to hear from you. Could you please tell us which apartment/(s) is/are the best in terms of living conditions and price. I would like to live very close to the campus (walking distance).

Also this has been asked in the forum before but I'm wondering how important is it to use the computer that they provide. I'm Mac user and would love to keep using macs throughout medical school. Would this be ok? Or do I have to use windows?

How do people generally find roommates? I think we'll be getting access to the student portal soon so does everyone use that to communicate?

I would also be interested to know about good places to live within walking distance from school.

I got my student portal stuff about a week ago. They send your username and password in the mail.

I got my information today. There is a section called DMU classified at the bottom of the left side on the homepage. There is a roommate tab where you can contact others. Hope this helps.

I got my acceptance today. 🙂

Has anyone heard anymore about the scholarships? Do any current students know how many they give those out to?

Have people been taken off pre-interview holds? DMU is one of my top choices and I'd love to have the opportunity to interview there.

Did you have to pay your entire $1000 for the portal info? So far I have only paid the initial $500, but I would love me some portal access!

I just got my portal access 2 days ago. I live in-state so that's probably why I got it already. Have patience, it'll come! Not all of the portal information is available yet so you really aren't missing much.

I received my portal access information yesterday. I can access the portal fine but can't login to the email box (it states invalid username or password). Anyone else having the same problem?
