DMU-OMC Class of 2005

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Kid T, are you familiar with any of these Detroit hospitals at all?

There is a certain amount of time that you need to spend at these "required sites" and then I believe that the remainder of your 4th year you can set up wherever will take you... Trust me, it is all VERY confusing and the administration hasn't done a very good job of explaining the 3rd and 4th year rotations to us.

Hope that helps a little bit at least.... sorry JP, nothing in Chicago or San Fran area!

jsdmu

1215ish is probably best - I'll have to unload the boxes. Front of the bookstore is good. I have all the notes thus far bound & labeled, plus old tests. I'll leave the study guides and the notes/tests for the remaining systems (rheum/ortho, derm, clinical pracctice - there are no notes for psych; attendance only) with somebody before I leave town.

don't bother trying to explain the clinical years - it will all change by the time incoming students get there. It changed significantly for us from last year, and you'll probably have major changes for your class as well.

THank you Izlam! I hope that everyone reads your last post... I myself am one of those people who is always looking ahead five years. So, not knowing where I am going to be in a year is very frustrating. I know that many of my classmates are looking forward to going to MI or OH... but I spent 18 years in MI and really don't want to go back in that direction.
I'm sure that everything will change for us as well... just on of 1000 hoops for us future doctors to jump through! It never ends!!!
Izlam, I'll see you at 12:15ish by the bookstore. I'll try to get a parking spot up front to ease the transfer.

Yeah, so you pesky incoming students... stop bothering me about the clinical years! 😉 😉 😉
Much Love to my hommies, Josh

I think what administration fails to realize is that as med students, we all got to where we are by being anal-retentive and always planning ahead five years! 😱

WOW!!! 😱

I was actually on campus from 1:30 to about 3:00pm.... asking my questions away to people. I found out that some students can actually do their core electives for their third year in many places. They have a Primary Care Directory for core electives up in the Student Services area.

They also have a bunch of information regarding residency and rotation (According to Mary A. Zug) in the library.... So for those of use that are as anal as I am looking five years down the road, this might be a good source I haven't seen it yet but I'm sure I'll see it tomorrow.

Thanks Josh for answer those questions for me.... Despite the fact that I know that things will change, some answers are better than none. I just want to go into things blindly.... If that makes any sense. 🙂

Thanaks again for listing those affliates.... No Cali or Illinois, huh?! Oh well....

later peeps,
JP

FREE T-Shirt for In-coming Class of 2005!!!!

BTW.... I was up in the fifth floor of the academic building and notice a bunch of t-shirts in front of the Vice Provost.... Because I'm such a curious guy 😀 I approach the lady in the front desk and ask what it was for.... As I approached the T-Shirts stated "DMU Class of 2005."

They are packing it up and shipping the T-shirts by tomorrow for those of us who've sent in an intent to register.

FREE T-Shirts for In-coming Class of 2005!!! Yeehaw....!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀

JP, if you check out that stuff in the library, let me know what you think. I looked at it many months ago and it was not organized at all and offered me nothing that I didn't already know. Hopefully they changed it!

Another BTW....

The books for the DO '05 is actually in the bookstore storage area. The ladies in the bookstore told me that they will not set things up till August. She suggested looking at the Financial Aid packet for the estimated price we have to pay for books. Keep in mind that she used the price of NEW books not used ones.... So there is room to save mucho dinero....

She did mention that every year people usually buy Netter, Gevitz, Class notes, among other things I cannot recall right now....

Alright, just wanted to let everyone know.

Enjoy everything that is free... you won't see too much of that stuff!!!

JP... the man, the myth, the legend! 😀

Dragon, I have the lady in-charge of student patients at the Tower Med Ctr was not in today.... so nothing on that topic yet.... The lady in the front desk, Candy, told me to check back tomorrow....

That's why I'm going to have another trip back to campus tomorrow...

Josh, I'll let you know of the stuff they have in the Library when I go see it tomorrow.... or tonight.... 😀

I guess your on-line at the same time as me.... 😀

I hear you on that free stuff.... I asked the lady up in the student service if I can grab some pens with DMU on it 😀.... she said yes!!! I'm giving them to families 😀

Only 128 posts behind COMP now
"You can do it... all night looonngg!!" from the Waterboy

I think thats why med students love the drug reps... lots of FREE PENS and notepads and such.

I have sworn that when I become a doctor, I am only going to prescribe drugs that I have free pens from. "lets see, what should I prescribe today..." I say as I am reading the drug name on my pen!

JP, I can picture you stuffing your pockets with DMU pens!!! 😉

JP, only 200 more posts to go, and its only tuesday!

Whoop it up for the Class of 2004... we had our last lecture today!!! 😀 😉 😎

WHOOOOOPPP ITTTT UPPPPP!!!! Class of 2004!!! Yeeaaahhh Baby!!!

Okay, there's my shout out for those of you folks who's finish with classes.... 😀

I saw a lot of students going by the bookstore talking about the last lecture 😀

You guys must be feeling some relief!!!

Just two more tests and then we'z outy!

Tomorrow I'm gonna try and get more pens!!! 😉

I did look pretty silly with those pens in my pocket.... Someone could have come up to me and ask "Is that a bunch of pens or are you just happy to see me?" 😉

yeaahh!!! Later 😎

😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 Stop counting please that is enought don't u guys have anything else to talk about it except counting who is going this school or that school .. god give us break and change the subject

Guess you guys aren't really finish yet.... Good luck on your test!!! 😀

amisoone.... If you haven't notice, we are posting things that are important for us incoming DMU Class of 2005.... This whole post number thing is an insiders thing....

Are you an incoming Class of 2005 for DMU? 😀

Amisoone... if your going to sit of the sidelines and not add anything to our page, please stay out and keep your comments to yourself! Please feel free to go somewhere else!

And No, we do not have anything better to do... we are in Iowa for god's sake! Now go away!

Everyone thank amisoone - that person added one more post to our list! YEEHAW!!!

(How are they going to mail out T shirts if they don't know our sizes?)

amisoone.... I think might be a bit left out b/c amisoone doesn't belong to a particular med school thread.... Is this a correct assumption? If so, maybe you should start your own thread 😀

KidT, they have annotated the shirts size next to our names.... I'm not sure how they found out..... Maybe from Barbara Fox, she has an impecable memory.... 😀

Thank you amisoone... you have given us more posts! Hope this pisses you off!

Kid T, what going on?! Nice to see ya. Did you get a chance to look at the list of places i posted a few pages back? Just wondering if you've heard of any of the detroit ones on the list... Looking forward to having hotwings and beer with you and watching the scenery. Later

Is Michigan really that nice of a place to practice?

MI in general is a very DO friendly place... except Ann Arbor and parts of Detroit. There is a very strong DO presence in MI. The areas around the lake and northern MI are beautiful areas. MI is also the 6th most populated state... hence all of the med schools and hospitals. MI is nice, don't get me wrong, I would just rather stay away from there for a few years and go to the mountains or the coast. Who knows maybe kid T and I can run a detroit ER together... the "Detroit Knife and Gun Club"

I guess, amisoone... is not in the mood to comment anymore....??? 😀

Josh, here's a question someone asked on a different thread.... Any thoughts?

docflanny, Azcom I know is percentage/Letter grade but class rankings are not released until the end of year 2.

Popoy, is class ranking given out? If so, when?

Dave

I guess he's asking about when the class ranks come out if any? Thanks... I want to know about it too.... JP

Here's another question:

Are there any places in DMU that would be nice to study at?

Later, JP

So any response to "Dave"'s question and mines?

Bumpithumpump!!! 😀

JP, I know that at least first year you get your class rank at the end of first and again at the end of the second semester. Not sure about second year though.

I study at home... sorry.

I guess amisoone took his/her prozac! 😀

or Melaril... whichever...

Thanks for answering the question Josh.... Did you see that news about the weather this morning? I must have been sleeping really deeply, but MAAAANNN golf ball size pellets.... Most of the cars in car dealer lots where some how damaged.... I see car sales 😱 bling, bling!!!! 😀

Yeah, the storm brough me out of my coma for about 10 seconds... then it was back to dream land! No blown out windows on my ferrari... so I'm OK. 😉

After this post will be the 27th page.... WE've come a long ways my friends and colleagues.

Has there been any progress regarding buying those homes between the campus and the academic center? I'm sure if DMU buys those house they can easily put up other facilities for their students and possible do their own skywalk way from the old building to the academic to other buildings!!! That would be really nice.... So any progress? Does anyone know? 😀

WELCOME TO PAGE 27!!! 😀

To start off the 27th page... I just wanted to thank all the people that made it possible to come this far....

jsdmu, jpdmu=Popoy, KidT, Katie, Dragon, IzlamicM, and other folks such as dieselkid, Green, UHS03, cpw, swdave, and our most recent one.... amisoone 😀

Alright, enough with that.... Does anyone else have any other questions?

Wow - it's so hard to keep up with the postings because whenever I get something worth writing about, it's four pages back!!!

Js - I'm all about hooking it up with some hot wings, my man! It's on like Donkey Kong!!!

I looked at the list, and I know of the hospitals. They're not too bad at all, but I know of some better ones I could go to (perhaps after my requirements). There are also DO's in Ann Arbor, as well as the ones in Harper. Kent Rey would know the best ones. Don't forget that Michigan State DO floods our market with Osteopathic medicine. I recently found out that my pediatrician was a DO, as well as the guy I recently went to for my immunizations (without even asking). They're all over the place. Plus, you can't go to a suburb without a DO practice on some street corner. I'm glad I get to come back here - we bank!!!

I second the question that my man Po asked the other day - where do you people study? I believe that someone should study where the atmosphere is the best for it. In other words - to work out, go to a gym, to study, go somewhere where studying is the norm. Where does one go? It looked to me that the second year rooms (with the red rolling chairs) provided the best place. Am I right? I didn't get a chance to look at the library. How late is it all open?

Next question -

Regarding the T shirts, are they mailing them out? Does that mean I get one by the next week? HOW COOL!!!

They can't possibly know my size. That's just goofy. Whoever sized people up should be working for the police, I tell you.

hidden cameras... taps on your phone... bugs on your clothing...

They are watching us... right now... 😱 😱 😱

Js - you online? Can we find a chatroom?

Just so everyone can get a good picture of a typical detroit street corner: liquor store, strip club, soul food restaurant, gun store, DO doctor office, strip club, liquor store...

I'll be waiting in the SDN chatroom...

Nice chatting with you guys there tonight....

Sorry for getting disconnected all the time.... AOL was actually calling to see whether or not I wanted to continue service.... I said NO!!!

Thus, I only have a week before my free AOL is gone... Gotta reach that 1000 post... This is one closer to that.... 😀

Later peeps,
JP

Regarding the T-shirt... They are most definitely mailing them out by this week so they should arrive by next week.

Maybe I'll be studyin' in my home unless I find some nice comfy place in DMU where I can feel home.... Just bumpin' this us as well.... That's it for tonight... Later 😎
