DO Match List Thread 2021

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For University of Incarnate Word, they haven't given us an official match list yet and not everyone wanted to announce their results at the virtual match event, but what I have is below. Apparently the vast majority of people matched without SOAPing, at least that's what people are saying.

IM - 20
FM - 16
EM - 3
Peds - 5
GS - 3
Gas - 2
OB/GYN - 6
Psych - 4
PM&R - 2
Path - 2
Vascular surgery - 1
Neuro developmental disabilities - 1
Surgery prelim - 1

Probably the most notable matches were family medicine at Mayo, vascular surgery at USF, pathology at Vanderbilt, and neuro developmental disorders at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's.
Mayo Rochester or Mayo Elsewhere?

Many people do use Rads as a backup for Gen surgery and other surgical subs, the charting outcomes last year put the DO match rate into Rads at 90% i doubt its much lower this year. A lot of those 233 people prbly did use rads as a back up.
Beat me to it. Rads and gas are very popular backups for the OR bound.

Wow! tough year for all. MD grad matched at 92.7% and DO at 89.1%.
:/ If so, that’s a record low for US MD grads, right? But great news for DO though! — a record high?

calling it: LCME or whoever is gonna advocate and lobby hard to increase residency spots b/c so many unmatched US MD grads

Cool ortho matches I have seen this year and some limited insight I have

NYU - Great applicant, probably crushed their interview, a little surprised (in a good way) to see this because I know DOs who did research years at NYU last year and NYU told them that they won't interview DOs even if they do a research year haha
George Washington - Best DO applicant in the pool by far, persons app blew me away. Was swimming in MD interviews to the point of cancelling DO interviews allegedly
University of Washington - Did a sick research year, diverse, whole package
TCOM - at least 3 MD texas matches (2 at JPS and 1 texas tech)- TCOM sets you up best to match MD if that is your whole goal cause JPS and Texas tech DGAF if you are DO. I also know people who had interviews at UTSW and in Houston so texas is pretty DO friendly overall.

Do you know the match rate for ARCOM?

I'm curious how KCU Joplin did
From an initial review, very good!

1 Neurosurgery
1 Integrated vascular
3 Ortho maybe
3 Urology
Several general surgery
1-2 Optho
2 Interventional radiology
3 Diagnostic radiology maybe more
Lots of IM, EM, Anesthesia

Name wise, I saw neurology at Washington University (Seattle), General surgery (Baylor), IM (Cleavland clinic), Anesthesia at Washington University (St. Louis). This is just from memory, so might not be 100% accurate. Also, this is from the KCU KC + Joplin combined match.

the NYU kid still has me on the floor. Just wow. How does that even happen? At the top having a flawless app as a DO still wont break you into a prestige heavy DO hating place like NYU. Crazy awesome to see

Any baller IM matches yall hear of do not hesitate to post if you can lmao

Best IM match ive heard so far from Rowan is Jeff Philly. Impressive. Waiting to hear more but so far all the other ones arent anything to write home about imo
We had a BCM IM match as well.

Overall OSU match list looks like every other year. Lots of in state matches to our programs with a few noteworthy exceptions.

Not when there are still more slots than bodies to fill them

Our match list looks pretty impressive to me this year! Pumped. The integrated vascular match blew me away.

Also crazy that the NYU match didn’t do a research year, definitely one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen so from that respect, he 100% deserves it

From what I saw on social media - NYCOM-OW matched pretty well.

Lots of anesthesia, PMR, IM, a few gen surg, at least 2 ortho, and at least 1 Derm

My alma maters match looks awful on Facebook. The worst it’s looked since I started following them roughly 8 years ago

and it’s not even close

People talking about 3 ortho matches between campuses totaling FIVE HUNDRED people. It’s bonkers.

What’s your alma maters?

Mostly EM, IM, FM, peds from AZCOM so far. Just what has been posted on social media

I don't think so. If you remember, we got kicked out of the ACGME match when 500 MDs didn't match. Personal communication with a Dean. Then we were asked to join the ACGME. I think it will be harder to match specialties and pushed more into primary care. I think if any residencies open, they will be mostly in primary care. Next years match will be interesting.

Is that UPMC for IM actualy Pitt? If so thats impressive

UIWSOM had some good matches that I saw on the virtual match thing they had- at least one vascular surgery, at least 4 gen surg, at least 4 OBGYN, several university IM (mostly Texas), at least 2 PM&R, several psychs, couple of path. Of course, plenty of FM, pediatrics (some good university/community combined programs), EM, and community IM. Will get the final list next week!
