Im doing research at Bayview Medical Center this summer and am trying to figure out housing. Im kind of on a time crunch (it was a busy semester). Im from New Jersey and don't know the Baltimore the area but Im trying to get housing at JHU as visiting student. The only thing is I don't know which dorm to apply for. I think the options were Charles Commons and Wolman Hall. Which is closer/has better access to the center? I also looked into trying to find sublets/roommates via cragslist but the whole thing has been a hassle since I don't know what the areas and what they entail. Google gives me an idea of where they are relatively but Id like to be in an area with other college students if I ended up with a sublet.
Can anyone help me out?

The Bayview Medical Center is a bit of a distance from the main Johns Hopkins University campus where the dorms are. I just checked Google Maps and it says it's an 18 minute drive from Charles Commons to Bayview. Sure there is a shuttle service between the Hopkins campuses but you're much better off saving yourself the hassle/decreasing commute time and subletting a place somewhere in the Canton/Greektown/Fells Point areas, which are all neighborhoods much closer to Bayview. There aren't a lot of college students in those areas but I know for a fact that a lot of the NIH postbacs in Baltimore live there and Canton and Fells Point in particular are pretty young neighborhoods with active social sports leagues, bars, trivia, etc.

Aight I gotchu. I'm a graduating senior at Hopkins. So in terms of dorms- Commons and Wolman are literally half a block from each other (also just across the street from the campus) so that way it doesn't matter. Both of them have shuttle access to Bayview through the JHMI shuttle which stops at convenient locations. Once you get you can track the positions of the shuttle in real time. Normally, Wolman is a freshman dorm and Commons is a sophomore dorm and by popular opinion, Commons is the better dorm. If you are applying for on campus housing you might get roommates assigned so that will take that problem out. Hopkins over the summer is obviously more dead than it is during the school year but there's definitely still stuff going on!

I've lived in Baltimore for six years, as a student and as a professional living downtown. As mentioned, I highly suggest living in Canton - or Fells. The undergrad JHU campus is honestly nowhere near Bayview and rush hour can be bad. Canton and Fells, while not rich with current college students, is full of young professionals in their 20s.
