From what I was told..the 15th is the official first date med schools get to see where their applicants have been accepted..dont know the significance that holds
 
On page 48...in this years MSAR it states:

By March 30th of the matriculation year, each school must have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services

So its actually the 30th of March that all schools must release their acceptances..nonetheless this date is rapidly approaching so we will all be hearing soon!!! Good Luck to everyone!
 
Hey Has anyone else heard about interviews? I got the email saying that they will let me know in 30 days as well...getting QUITE anxious
 
I interviewed in late January and got accepted in the end of Feb. Please let me know if you are accepted/going so we can exchange info!😳

I guess my advice would be to download a bunch of med school interview questions and answer those. They have a new interview process of which they want all applicants to answer all of the same questions from a pre-established list. They ask all of the typical questions ie. social issues, political issues, why drew, what's special about you. They actually put together some wonderful/interesting questions! I had two members of the faculty interview me but some students received a student interview instead of faculty member 🙂 My stats were good...not perfect, but more importantly was my commitment to my community.

Do you know if anyone else was also accepted because Norma said that they acceptances werent going to be released until the end of March sometime..however this does seem to be the case at all..
 
my stats: 27---straight 9's 3.52 cum, 3.3 science...have done a good amount of work in the LA community and def interested in serving these populations as a physician. Do i stand a chance?

can anyone tell me why no one is picking up the phone and how to reach the admissions ofifce?
 
last time i was able to get though, a couple of weeks ago, they mentioned taht they "lost" someone in the admin office. whether this means someone got laid off or fired, i don't know....but the office is probably a little understaffed
 
hey guys, im a drew student. youre right that the admin office is understaffed. Norma had to leave (for personal reasons) and Margaret was transferred to a position at ucla. so yea, its going to be pretty hard getting your calls answered. its hard, i know...but you have to be patient.

drew has definitely issued acceptances/ rejections/ and some waitlists. i believe that by the end of march, they want to have most of the class filled. however, theyre going to continue interviewing into may (there is always some waitlist movement). dont lose hope and congrats to ludacris on your acceptance! welcome to the family..🙂
 
I got waitlisted...found out via snail mail today. Now I must pray that people choose other schools.😱

Hey guys..is it just me..or does anyone else feel terribly left out of the information loop? During my USC interview i was told Drew's Dean resigned just little over 3-4 weeks ago...I was told this by the physician that was interiviewing me..ALSO..I have tried calling for the past two weeks and I have receieved no answer at all..now I know Norma may not be there anymore but I mean its not impossible for someone to answer our calls or at least shoot us an email..I dont know..maybe im venting because I really would like to go to Drew..I tried pm-ing some Drew students..but of course they are not answering either..anyhow..im juss gonna pray about it because God always answers..Good Luck to everyone else waiting..:luck:

When did you interviewed at Drew? I interviewed in mid-January and I haven't heard anything yet. I also live in the LA area so I guess my rejection letter is coming soon. Bumper.:scared:

Hey Cherry I dont think you are rejected...look on the bright side..only one person has reported being accepted..and you interviewed with the first batch of people so that leaves you in good standing..many of us that interviewed have not heard anything as of yet..so take care

Sorry to hear that liz....I hear they take a good number of peope off of the alternate list so keep the hope alive.
May I ask....do you live in CA or are you OOS? and when did you interview?

Thanks for the hope! I think I may just dismiss Drew--I guess they didn't think I was good enough for them. I have plenty of other schools that do believe in me. And to answer your question: I live in LA and I interviewed in February.

Hey Diaz..did you interview in the latter part of Februrary? It seems like Drew is sending out a bunch of "alternate list" to people before they actually send out all of their acceptances..HmmMMMmmm..although.. I do not know how many people they have actually accepted as of yet tho...CAN ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN ACCEPTED PLEASE POST IT ON THIS THREAD👍

As for waitlisting a grip of peeps, maybe they are curious to see where else these applicants are or will be accepted to.
 
Hey silver, as far as I know they officially began in the beginning of January...that is what we were told during our interview. When did you interview silver?
Has anyone been able to get in contact with anyone in the admissions office?

Liz- I totally understand where you are coming from and it is great that you have other options! I don't think it's that they don't believe in you because if they didn't believe in you then it is highly likely that they would have outright rejected you. This process is so crazy, there really is no telling what could happen in a few weeks or within the next month. Best of Luck to you 🙂

I interviewed on Feb. 24th. I thought it went well. GL:luck:
 
Hard to say what my top choice is right now. Financial aid packages have come into play.

I just got my acceptance letter! Snail mail only, no email or phone call. It also came in a small envelope so don't be alarmed when you see that in your mailbox!

I interviewed 2/10 and live in norcal(SF). They also sent it to my permanent address and not my mailing one so check both!

The first interviews were given 1/23, then 1/30, then I think they had 2 batches in Feb (2/10 for sure) and later in Feb. After that I don't know. In my group on 2/10 they interviewed about 22 people. 2/10 was a Saturday so it may be that more people were able to make it since they didn't have to miss work/school. I was given the choice to interview 1/23, 1/30 , or 2/10 so I'm not sure if they give applicants a choice on dates.

By the way, are you hawaiian silver? When you said "grip" that tipped me off. 😀

Not Hawaiian, but have friends who are. There is some serious action taking place today. No Drew news for me in the mail (live in L.A.) but I just saw that my final decision letter from UCLAGefffen was sent today. ahh Damn. Here we go. KC, did you also interview at UCLA? I am intrigued by the UCLA/Drew dynamic and how it plays into decisions of where an applicant will end up.

I didn't interview with UCLA, but I know a couple of folks on this thread interviewed for both Drew and regular UCLA. Apparently, they shouldn't have any bearing on each other. Look backwards on this thread for this info.

Yeah, seems like Drew is making movement since peeps on this thread in socal got waitlisted yesterday. Then I heard my news today and I'm in norcal.

Hey as far as letters via snail mail go..im in So Cal and I have not heard anything at all..but then again..for some odd reason I tend to get news really late over here😡 But yea Ill definitely let everyone know whats good once I check the mail today...once again CONGRATS!

Thanks for all the congratulatory wishes! So here's the timeline of the letter -
Written/Dated 3/15 and then sent 3/19. So it took them 4 days to mail it out and 2 to get to norcal(3/21).

For people having trouble calling, here's the number that they have on the letter = 323-563-5956. Is this what you guys have been calling?

hey kc222...thanks for the valuable info...thats definitely not the number i have been calling..lol..i have been calling Norma's number all this time...so thanks for clearing that up..anyhow..i think i have been calling way tooo much..so im going to play it patient now and just wait for my news to come...

Oh..and a 2 day turn around for your acceptance to get to the bay? WOW..that is really quick if you ask me..LOL..CONGRATS again...is Drew ur top choice??

Well im in so cal and I didnt get anything in the mail today..if they were mailed out on the 19th..i dont think my decision was included..so we will see...good luck to everyone:luck:
 
I just received word yesterday that I got in too (on the East coast right now)!! I'm in an interesting position right now, though...I dunno how it happened, but I'm fortunate enough to have to make the choice between Geffen and Drew. Thoughts anyone? How different are the third and fourth years between the two programs? I got a sense of that from the interview, but I was hoping you all had some insights too. Thanks in advance!

kudos!!! when did you interview? well.. I would guess the major difference is the uncertainty of where you would conduct your rotations at drew since mlk hospital is in limbo.

Congrats lin! I think there are benefits to being in Drew. Since it's a small class, people know who you are, especially the Dean who will write your letter of rec to residencies. I interviewed with a 4th yr, and she said that that was a tremendous advantage. Looking ahead, it's your Step I, Dean's letter, and rotation eval that go into account for residencies. And since Drew is so supportive, expects much from their students, and sets up focused rotations regarding underserved then it's a win-win situation. You'll get the basic sciences from UCLA but kinda like catered rotations. I would only be weary though of the exact rotation sites since the King hospital is in bad shape. We gotta make sure we're in good hands in the other places ya know.

Drew has been one of my top choices but I got accepted into my #1 choice too! I've been lucky to have this luxury and won't deliberate very much longer so I won't hold up a spot.

I also knew that you guys would need the phone # cuz I've been following this thread. I saw that people were haven't trouble calling so I thought I'd volunteer that information. 😀

Congrats lin!!!!! 😀 That's a tough decision you have to make but follow your heart 🙂. Hey lin- did you only receive snail mail as well? And if it was snail mail, was it sent to your permanent or mailing adress?
I haven't heard anything yet but I am in Southeast US so maybe the mail is taking a while...

Thanks everyone! I interviewed Feb 10th and received it in a small envelope at my mailing address (vs. my perm address which is in So. Cal). Yeah, my biggest concerns are about rotations esp in light of recent troubles at the King Hospital (interestingly enough, it looks like Drew is suing the county about that... http://www.cdrewu.edu/_022/_html/news/2007/DrewReleaseFormat30607%5B1%5D-%20final.pdf) but I was told by my interviewer that they were doing a really good job w/rotation placements. Thanks for everyone's input, and good luck to everyone still waiting!
 
CONGRATS LIN!!! Thats good news man!!! At least we know that they have sent out a majority of all of their acceptances!! Congrats again!! You have a very tough decision to make so good luck!

Hey Silver this proves that you can hold multiple acceptances within the UCLA system..So it looks like you may have to possibly make a tough decision as well..

I was one of the OOSers....hehe 🙂
Just thought that was interesting that we were all there on the same day and here we are on the sdn.
