Being a lurker on this board now that I have started medical school, I read a lot of comments people have regarding their interviews at Drexel Med. Having a lot of pride in my school, I feel the need to respond to some of those comments.

The one that has been said that is currently irking me is the "down time" between interviews/presentations. Of course things would be boring if you sat in one room all day!!!

But, I feel that this is done for a reason... Lisa (director of admissions) puts a schedule up on the board for lectures that you can go watch. Go to a lecture!!! This is a great way to feel out the faculty and talk to some students. Wander around the school-- people are always in the cafeteria or hallways-- ask them some questions about the school.

You are not chained to the admissions office while you are there. You should be there and ready to go for your interview time, but otherwise, get a feel for the school.

Be proactive, make the best of your time there, and enjoy!

I see where you're coming from. At my interview though, they kept telling me not to go anywhere since my interviewer would be available in "just a few minutes." The "just a few minutes" turned out to be just short of 2 hours. I WANTED to go to a lecture but I really couldn't.

ditto although no quite 2 hours.

Eek-- I have seen that happen. But I have seen people who faculty interviewed at 11 and then student interviewed at 12, and then just sat there until 2:30 for the PIL Presentation. I know you are tethered to your chair when waiting on a doctor to get there, but I was thinking more about people who were done or were waiting until 1 to interview.

I, too, had a similar problem. I was able to go to one lecture for about 5 minutes (it was the same lecture we'd seen on the tour 30 minutes prior, too, so it wasn't very helpful). Then I had my student interview. After that, I had to make my way downtown, where I waited for 45 minutes for my doctor interview to start. I didn't even make it back in time for the PIL session, which I wanted to see (I got back at 3:30). During the entire day, I only got to speak to one student, and that was my interviewer. That person didn't exactly instill a lot of confidence in me about the school, either. At the beginning, they said they'd never done an interview before, but they were getting a free lunch, so why not? Then, when I asked why'd they chose Drexel, their only answer was "because that's where I got in." Overall, I wasn't really sold on the school. I wish that the admissions office had done a better job of recruiting students to come talk to us in the conference room while we were waiting, like most other schools I've been to.

Yeah-- crappy things like that happen at interviews-- I am in and out of the admissions office a lot, and it's always funny when I say Hi to applicants and talk to them they've been sitting there for an hour plus (and not waiting on anything/one).

Unfortunately, having students around to interview is very hit and miss. There are days when there are tons of students who want to interview, and there are others when there are only a few because of exams (like last week-- all four classes had exams coming up- no one wanted to interview) or 2 weeks ago when there was a snowstorm and hardly anyone was at school...
