Drexel Waitlist Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yo disqfish, that's good to hear. I was in the ims/mms program last year and was waitlisted. Unfortunately there was absolutely no movement last year. I was waitlisted again this year, but at least its somewhat refreshing to hear there is hope.

definitely hope this year. ducom can't make the same mistake as last year- they'll lose all their accredibility. it's too bad they cut back on acceptances though and that ims/mms kinda took the hit. but at least the waitlist will move.
are you in mms now?

naw finished mms last year, and drexel is my only hope.

I'm in IMS and on the waitlist too. I was really hoping on getting in based on the stats from last year, but we'll see. I asked the admissions office if IMS students were on a different waitlist or treated any differently, but the lady said no. I hope the spots declined by accepted IMSers get passed down to us!

i hope so too. supposedly 12 people were accepted and 9 waitlisted, but i know some of those accepted have declined.. good luck!

I'm here to join the fun...😳

Just got my waitlist decision today...🙁

well, there hasn't been any movement yet, but i think you're just in time! may 15 is right around the corner, good luck :luck:

hmm, i'm not sure how many of us are here. let's make a list and see how many people join up:

Just withdrew my acceptance today... hope one of y'all get it!!

Also - I have a friend who was just accepted at Drexel and she heard that they will be pulling from the waitlist big time this year -- they have apparently been pretty conservative because of last year -- but there should be some good movement this year!

Good luck!

Does anyone know how they notify their waitlisters? Do they call then mail? Or do they just mail? Thanks guys and good luck again.

i'm not sure. but i'd imagine it wouldn't be through mail because that would take too long. i'm thinking it will be in the form of an e-mail, with a packet following after in the mail. we'll find out soon! 👍

just mail. they might give you a call or an email but they don't have to, you can also call the admissions office and check in to see if there's been a change in your status. or it might tell you when you check your application status online.

really? they snail mail you to let you know you're in off the waitlist?

i know they do that for regular acceptances, but it just seems strange to me that they would do that for waitlist. it would take them forever to figure out who was interested in coming off of it.

i'm pretty sure that no one is interested in staying on a waitlist ... at least that wasn't my goal

that's not what i meant. people may be on multiple waitlists, and therefore they may be accepting offers from other schools. so they could be sending their withdrawal to drexel while the acceptance letter is still making its way through the postal system. or what if someone withdraws in july? they'll send you a letter?

i'm not making myself clear, i know. but basically, snail mail for waitlists seems inefficient for everyone involved. wouldn't drexel want to notify you quickly so that you can respond quickly?

I agree completely to this opinion. I think Drexel should use email more often on all correspondences with prospective students. I think they like to stay traditional, but I believe that traditions don't appeal to those who do not appreciate their existence.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they start calling/emailing once it gets closer to the start of classes. We were told to always keep our phone numbers up to date on AMCAS because some schools call very close to the beginning of the year and want a response within 24 hours.

I have faith in the waitlists because I had 2 friends get into schools last year less than 2 weeks before classes started! Hopefully we'll find out sooner than that...

How did you guys know you were waitlisted? I just received notification today by the website that a decision had been made. Thanks.

just withdrew my acceptance from drexel. one more spot for you guys. good luck!

just wondering, has anybody on the waitlist heard anything? supposedly other schools started calling/emailing to accept ppl off the wait list on may 15, but i dunno if drexel has..

Someone on the "Drexel Acceptances" thread said they called the admissions office and were told that the waitlist hasn't started moving and probably won't for another couple of weeks.

thanks for the info! i guess we'll just have to wait for june.

I'm getting all my materials ready for reapplying for the Fall of 2009. I want to reapply to Drexel but I'm still waiting to hear from their waitlist (and judging by the previous posts it looks like i'll be waiting for a little while longer.) Is it wise to reapply to the school while currently on their waitlist? Should I hold off? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and good luck again.

If you're concerned about it, you can submit your AMCAS with only one school selected. That way, you'll get through the verification process quickly and can add schools like Drexel later once you find out if the waitlist pans out or not.

Good luck everyone!

hi all,

im on the drexel waitlist (only chance acceptance this year). i was wondering if anybody had any idea as to how many people they usually accept? an educated estimate would be great because i really have no idea if the number is like 300 or 500 or even maybe 750 (for a class of 250). i know they over-accepted last year and had a class of 281 when they want more like 250. if they can support a class of 281, why dont they just have that many people in the class? i cant think of a good reason why they would want to accept less people given the rising number of qualified applicants and the fact that more students equals more money. after all the most important thing at a private institution is the bottom line.

also, how many people do you think are actually waitlisted? we have approximately 22 on this thread. i would guess that it is about 75??? i would also guess that there arent more than 20 people a year who get in off the waitlist??? im just curious how many people i have to beat out and what my realistic chances are, although i do wish you guys the best of luck (unless you are a prick like a lot of premeds). any help would be appreciated. thanks

ps- i know drexel offered applicants a ten grand reduction in tuition if they deffered a year. did anybody actually take them up on this offer? if so, how many people?

With how many people they interview (over 1000) I think that waitlist is going to be more like 200-300 people or more. You have got to remember that it doesn't hurt them to have extra people on the waitlist, But it would hurt if they didn't have enough, and they couldn't fill their class, so I think they are going to make sure they have more than enough.

I am also on the waitlist and would love to go to Drexel, but I am not holding my breath. Dr. H. told me at my interview that she didn't think that they would go to the waitlist at all this year either.

they're only allowed to accept a number of students (~250). they are given a quota, and for each student above it, i'm sure they have to pay a fine, and their reputation goes down the tubes like it did last year. if they overaccept this year like they did last year, they'll definitely lose their accreditation. even if they get more money for more students who enroll, they only have so many resources to educate each student- it's not cheap. so the word is that they cut way back on acceptances this year, they absolutely cannot afford to have more than 250 students in the fall; that means they might have given out more than 250 acceptance letters, but not by much.

the waitlist is definitely more than 75. i've heard that it's a couple hundred (though they won't tell you the actual number), and i know that drexel is one of those schools that likes handing out lots of waitlists rather than rejections to their interviewees, knowing that many ppl on the waitlist will never be accepted- i.e. there's no quota for the waitlist.

to answer your question about the $10000, only 1 out of 281 last year took the money (he's actually the boyfriend of my lab partner in the IMS program), and unless he gets into mcw off the waitlist, he's gonna be one of the 250 this fall.

In the post right before disqfish, it was stated that Dr. H, probably Dr. Hanau, doesn't expect to go to the waitlist. When was your interview? Did anyone else hear that at all because my heart just stopped when I read that post. I also just e-mailed Dr. Hanau regarding her expectations of the waitlist movement. I'm not sure if she's even going to respond, but I will post her response if she does. Have a nice day yall

agreed. casper, let me know if you hear anything back from hanau- this is the first time i'm hearing anything like this, other ppl at the admissions office and incoming ducom students have all said that they expected movement on the waitlist this year..

How likely is it that they'd lose their acceditatation? In what way does it hurt their reputation? What does this mean for current students? That's the first I'd ever heard of something like that, and it sounds pretty scary.
