I am no longer as confident that RMs tithe wasn't rescinded. The little hint that I had to go on was shaky at best and has now fallen apart.

That isn't to say that I know that it certainly was, either. I'm much less certain of many things. We missed one night of tithing for certain, due to no one volunteering. We may have missed more if anyone withheld. I know that I tithed, and that I really hated giving up my ability to do so, but when my turn comes, I'm in. Even if there is another healer, there are just too many injuries, and I don't think that Thread discriminates between Village and Wolf when it falls. I think that even discerning wolves would realize that and tithe accordingly, for their own protection as well as to maintain cover.
 
I'm not casting any vote until 4 or 5, but I'll be checking in and contributing as much as I can throughout the day. (Remember we have an early deadline.)

We clearly have some retribution to pay out for the violence last night, and I'm hopeful that we can finally lynch a wolf today.
 
Our thread also claimed to tithe every night, but I was injured last night by thread. I was specifically told our hold wasn't fully protected. So not sure if someone rescinded their tithe privately or if something else occurred.

If someone claimed to tithe every night in Gwen's hold but they still got hit with threadfall, that's where I'd like to put my vote. Anyone in that group who hasn't yet volunteered to tithe? Would narrow it down. For now,

In my hold we've only tithed twice. Last night we had some volunteers but no one actually tithed, I think. (As in no one officially submitted their name, not that someone rescinded)
 
I'm no longer as attached to tithing or not as a sign of wolfiness. Especially now that I am reasonably sure that tithes are distributed. I'm going back through the lynches and looking for patterns.
 
And I'm also injured. :yeahright:

I suspect thread will fall again, and when it does people who already have injuries will be more likely to be seriously affected (mod killed?) by the next thread.

Not volunteering is one thing but the dishonesty in claiming you are going to tithe and then not doing so rubs me the wrong way (if it has occured). It stands to reason that a hold that had tithed every night should have been protected from the Thread, so if, like in Gwen's hold, they were supposed to have tithed every night but still were affected I would want to the a closer look at those who volunteered to tithe.

I hope that you didn't view my wondering about them as a request for revelations. I'm really digging the pressure of having to puzzle out this world from clues and trial and error, under the risk of getting killed off before it can all be sorted out. That is a reason that I'm so open with my speculations. I expect to be wolf-killed or lynched before the end of the game, and I don't want to risk that any useful information or schemes go down with me. Also, I think there is less reason to off me to prevent the release of info, if I shed it as it comes to me. There is no hidden cache of secrets to be put beyond the villagers reach by taking me down.

Speaking of speculation re injuries:

There are so many injured. I have some concerns about that. Injuries can get worse or better. This seems to be a game of resource allocation. (I LOVE THOSE! - All my favorite strategy games are about making tough choices like these!) So, if that is the case, then it is likely that injuries won't heal on their own. There would likely either be a count down clock... two or three nights unhealed = you die from the injury. Or an increased vulnerability = a second minor hit can kill you for good. Best case... continued lack of healing deprives one of the ability to tithe / or use one's own ability. Particularly cruel would be if tithing during an injury was hazardous to health. That would provide an inducement for the tither to lie, even if they were village.

I'm not married to any idea. I just float them as they bubble up. I think we have established some of the mechanics, even though it has cost us a number of lives to tease them out. Here's hoping we figure this place out enough to defend it properly before it is too late.

In other games with an injury mechanic, I think it tended to have certain negative effects such as being unable to lynch vote until healed, or either being unable to use ability or having a failure rate attached to their ability. Don't think I've noticed anyone commenting on their ability usage nor being unable to vote, so of course it may be something completely different in this game...I wasn't injured last night, but has anyone who's been injured (now or previously) noticed any effect?

Would you guess that this ability of injuring is village or wolfy in nature?

Most likely made the n00b mistake of saying "I'm gonna wait until someone REALLY important like a seer dies!" or something.

LIS Rule #087621: If you can rez, don't die with the ability.
 
It did make it slightly difficult in that the abilities were revealed upon death. I always cringe bringing back people when they will likely just be killed immediately again, especially since a protector went early.

I think so. It's hard to know for sure though, since people can retract their tithe via private PM :shrug: I was unable to perform any night actions last night due to my injury, but I was able to tithe the night before last.

Sure. But it still costs the wolves another night to do it. Better that than dying with the ability...

I think I just view it differently. I view bringing someone back for their <ability> as very secondary. If you CAN bring back someone with a useful ability (protector, seer, etc) great. But the PRIMARY reason to bring someone back - assuming you know you are rezzing them as a villager - is for the numbers. You essentially get an extra villager for the game.

Can't pass that up.

Still unclear on whether it blocked my ability just for the night or whether I will be unable to use it until I am healed.

oh no, I definitely agree. I was more making a note that for when rezzing is a part of the game, I enjoy having the ability not revealed upon death. A passing thought rather than an argument against resurrecting.

Thanks! So the injury effect seems to be the total-loss-of-ability. I guess I could maybe see a villager having this ability (a different sort of blocking, incapacitating?), but still seems wolfy. Just don't understand the multiples.

Perhaps if the ability were tithed numerous times, the idea that they are pooled then distributed could hold true. Also, seeing as there are a couple powers that are doubled up, there could be a couple different abilities that injury. The reason I am asking is because the night 2 when you used the shutters, kata was injured. So if no one could come or go in Tillek, it had to have come from within that hold. Unless I am missing something.

Yeah, seems like it would have had to.
"Threadfall shutters- metal shutters used on external windows and doors to bar thread out. If you choose to close them you and all within your Hold are safe from outside forces, but you also confine your fellow holders to stay within the walls. You must choose to close them or leave them open ASAP."

Interestingly, I volunteered to tithe that same night and closing the shutters also caused my tithe to be blocked from sending.

Were you told that your tithe was unable to be sent? I find that to be an interesting message because I think the shutters have been used a few times but no one else has reported receiving that message. Of course, we also don't know if everyone who volunteered to tithe actually did.

I asked the other day if anyone else had used the shutters and didn't get a response.

Ah, okay. I was looking through the posts about the shutters and also realized that I was remembering the N2 write up incorrectly. I thought they had been used in MQ's group the night she was killed, but looking through the write up it just says that they had been used that night, not that they had been used in her hold. According to Deva she used the shutters N2, so the use of the shutters showed up in the same write up.
 
I don't know if I mentioned that I was injured, but by falling Thread. I haven't heard that would interfere with my capacity to use my ability. I also haven't heard anything about not being able to lynch vote.

I really want our healer back. If Sands tithe did go through, and if the res ability was included (not just a single use confined to the person to whom it was assigned,) then maybe someone can bring Sandstorm back. I'm making an official plea for that, if anyone received the tithe.

I hear what you are saying about roles getting targeted after their ability is revealed, but I think that a healer would have a special benefit in that regard in this game. Think about it. Thread falls on everyone alike. Wolves would also potentially benefit from having a healer using their ability on anyone who was injured. The healer might heal a wolf by mistake, just like we (usually) lynch villagers by mistake. So, there is less reason to target that character for death again, when they might turn out to be helpful to you in the long run.

Oh, actually, only once. One night was blocked by the shutters.

There may be items that can be used whenever, rather than being designated for use on a particular night. So, an item might be being held in reserve against need.

If the wolves are dragon riders, would they be and to protect themselves while letting thread fall on villagers?

It is rare that people can hold onto an item. It usually has to be used that night or passed on if that is an option.
 
I'm injured too! The person(s) doing this must be pretty powerful.

I really don't think that wolves are dragon riders, or that they get to choose whether or not to protect. Even T'ron, who got into a fight with and attempted to kill another important dragon rider, and was exiled for it... turned out to be a good character in this game. I also don't know if they can choose to protect only themselves, but rather the amount of aid they can render is limited by how many tithes have been given.

Like rain, Thread falls on good and evil alike. Riders and Dragons are far above the petty squabbles on the ground, fighting for all of Pern. All life below is endangered by the falling Thread, and they seek to block all of it that they can.

It occurs to me that Pern was very much written with a nod to the ecological concerns of the era. Dragon/Riders are the spirits of the Earth, which must be nurtured in order for everyone to have any hope of survival. Selfishness / greed can cause short-sighted people to do what is in their immediate best interest, at the expense of the environment upon which we all depend.

This game, like the books, is too intricate and layered for the Dragons to be choosy about how they fight the Thread. I would be very surprised if they picked and chose how to deploy their efforts.
 
Lynch gwen no particular reason. I am just going to be honest and say that I don't have the time to really keep up with this like a should. I have no idea anything about the lore and my attention span doesn't allow me to read the vast majority of peoples' posts in this thread. So I am going by subtle things in posting and basic feels this game. We shall see if that works, or not, but that is the best I can do.
