Duke Part III - Can't get enough :)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey,

Hadn't posted in a while but just wanted to chime in on some living situations in durham. I saw some posts mention duke manor. I assume they are referring to the duke manor right across from duke north hospital? I would highly suggest not living there. It has one of the worst crime rates in the city of durham. I have known three people who have lived/live there and they have all had break-ins either to their cars or apartments or both. I have only heard really bad things about it. Just throwing that in. Also, I know people in Belmont and during the school year it is mostly all undergrads and always loud/ lots of undergrad parties. Anywho just be careful in terms of places really close to the hospital because there are many that traditionally have bad safety records.
Yeah, this echoes what I mentioned in an earlier post. I really don't think the shuttle service is worth the risk.

:scared:

I really love these smilies too much... 😍😍😍

Do we have to keep the same laptop for four years? Or do we get new ones at any time during the four years?

Secondly, what type of PDA do we get in year 2? Do we get to keep it years 2-4?

I truly cannot get enough either. I'm so in love with this school I kissed the acceptance letter when it arrived last week.

Still, I too did not get to go to second-look, and I would like some advice on how to/when to look for housing...

thanks 😀

ps. obviously every other med school in the country except duke should be renamed to "your mom". (I LOVE IT! BRING IT ON!!!)

I have three hypotheses:
1) your computer sux
2) you're drunk
3) all of the above

😀

If she is drunk right now I am going to start crying....i am so sick of studying that learning ANYTHING is almost impossible...

hopes to pass
hopes to pass
hopes to pass

want a beer
want a beer
want a beer

or scotch....which I just bought more of on Friday

Man, you are all business on SDN!* Why don't you join the fun??

Yes, you keep the same laptop for all 4 years, provided it doesn't break...in which case they get you a new one. And I think you get a choice of like 3 PDAs 2nd year and it's yours to keep.

*just to clarify because it's hard to convey meaning sometimes via computer, I say that with dukie love.

P.S. Humorously, the bananas are dancing EXACTLY in time to the song I'm currently listening to: "Cold" by Static-X. Hilarious!

congrats! i would check the housing website (you should have gotten an email from RW about gettin housing with other med students. also, there was a mention in either the Duke II thread or the Duke class of 2011 thread comparing the long list of places to live (i believe by diosa)

love to see you here in 2 months!

seriously... on a day like this, i'm feeling like sitting on my hypothetical porch, sipping on a mojito, rocking in my swing and twirling a shot gun. anything but studying!!!!

Haha... I can't tell yall how many times the thought of drinking after a test has gotten me thru studying for a test... just keep going and think of the great alcohol rewards waiting for you at the finish line!!! Hey can we plan a party for when I get to Durham??? I am coming on the 22nd/23rd or July so we should plan the party for... um... 24th???? Burns????? 😀 😍 :hardy:

Take it from me, cleaning up after a party is a bitch. But I'm sure we can work something out.

Edit: huh, I would've thought that word would have gotten ********ed.

The bananas don't dance for me 🙁 🙁 No, I"m not drunk, but will be soon.

Also, females, the first week you'll be here is our first week back. So there will be lots of parties probably.

WOO HOO!!! :hardy: See that... I already have my party hat on 🙂

Yay! They're dancing again! I bet they're dancing now b/c the test is over!

A test on Memorial Day?!! 🙁
Not just a test, an EVIL test on Memorial Day! That's what I get for being happy that this test would have more M/C and less short answer.

Let's get a recap in picture form...:beat:
The test: little yellow circle guy
Me: Horse

For the record, we also had a test on Labor Day.

Dude... I hope we get a test on Flag Day next year... and Valentine's Day... I'm not even sure if that last one was a joke or not... 🙁

dude... no more posting today??? oh ya... yall just had a test right??? 👍 ... got it.

um... bump?

You'd think there'd be more time to post after the test and not before....

Ha... ya drunky mcdrunkenstein posting thats like:

Burnsie: Hye guys... I jsuet wanstd tos ay thatt i luvoed yuo

Diosa: bcak at uyo, bursn

Kirexhana: (insert dirty, on the verge of lude, yet clever comment with bad drunken typing)

Pagemma: u gysu suc kat typiyng.

Dookter: (asleep at computer)

:meanie:

yeah, females is right. before the test, we're procrastinating by being on SDN (since we're glued to our computers "studying"). after the test, we're too busy going out and enjoying ourselves.

What's funny is that that is exactly what I would say if I were drunk. I always go through a complimenting stage in my intoxication where I go around complimenting people and telling them I love them. So you got it half right.

I say half because I also always go around and inform people not to fake orgasms because, in the end, all you're doing is cheating yourself.

I'm going to have to warn you that a quote that good is going to have to be put up on my facebook profile at some point next year.

Fine fine, but don't think you're not going to be getting lectured at some point while I'm intoxicated. I may not be able to tell you not to fake it, but I also tend to tell people to practice safe sex (in college, I would go around and say this to strangers, which one time included the bus driver). You will be getting that lecture for sure.

lecture? or hands on lab, dear?

i personally learn better when i can put on a rubber glove and touch things myself. i don't think a 100 slide ppt is going to do the trick, i'm afraid.

 Nice pwning of the c/o 2010 FCD. 👍

😉

I knew this year was gonna be interesting...

Hey ppl,

few more questions...is there an IKEA anywhere nearby Duke. Or is Walmart the only option?

The nearest IKEA is up in Virginia methinks. I'd highly recommend Craigslist for furniture. raleigh.craigslist.org? something like that. I personally just bought some unfinished furniture from CJ Woodmaster and then stained and varnished it all, but it's kind of a pain in the butt.

I was recently informed by my esteemed colleague Pagemmapants that a certain charming man by the name of Richard Wallace peruses this forum and is aware of our identities. I would like to clarify any and all prevoius posts that have been made under the guise MrBurns10. Any posts mentioning any sort of "party" or "intoxication" were clearly not understood in their intended, metaphorical way, but rather as their literal translation. It should be noted that the word "party" has always and will henceforth be a metaphor for "reading the Physician's Desk Reference from cover to cover", while "intoxication" represents "community service." Considering my involvement with HEY-Durham, it is no surprise that during my "intoxication" I have explained the importance of "not faking it" (i.e. good communication with one's partner) and the importance of practicing safe sex. Clearly, you all have inappropriate minds.

Time to go party.

Dude, I read PDR last year. You should be working on the literature for your chosen specialty right now. At least start with Nancy Major's book, if you're not already on your Brant & Helms Solution. 😉 And don't forget to take your weekly practice step 1.

if by charming, you mean HOT. here's lookin at you, RW. 😉

btw: does anyone else get the feeling that we have the most popular admission director of all the schools, at least on SDN? i don't think i've even heard of other schools mentioning their admissions people on their forums. but then again i don't peruse the other forums so i guess i'm not the best expert on this.

I have seen people mentioned on a couple of other threads but none as much as good ole RW. I mean, he's an SDN celebrity for cryin out loud. As for the sdn perusing part... I just want to let everyone know that I don't go to parties, drink alcohol, or do anything else that might make someone think I am less than the most wholesome person on the face of the planet... unless guitar hero is bad... in which case... I'm a freakin rebel without a cause :horns:

Edit: Also, we got a rather interesting email from RW today showing us where everyone in our class did undergrad... there were like 13 Duke!!!!! I was like holy moly that's a lot. But, there were also like 6 Stanford and 6 UPenn... is there some Duke, UPenn, Stanford thing that I don't know about.... cuz I mean, my undergrad ain't friends with nobody 🙁

That's because we all love Durham so much and don't want to leave.

Well, I'm actually only half-joking. There's nothing that great about Durham, but there's something about Duke that really makes you not want to leave. We'll see how I feel when 4th year rolls around and it's been my 9th year in Durham, however.

She keeps saying this. I don't see it. I think she's just too lazy to move.

sssh, don't temper my internet enthusiasm. You'll scare the newbies!

In all honesty, as an undergrad it's easy to grow really attached to the place. Maybe less so for grad students, especially those like diosa who spend all their time in the bedrooms.

I spend all my time in my bedroom because I like to walk around naked, and I feel like you wouldn't appreciate that. So I keep my door closed. You should see what happens when you're not home...

:scared: I'm getting the tainted bedroom... :scared:

If you think that's the only room in the house that's tainted, you've got another thing coming.

there's nothing that lysol can't kill... except the vaginal secretions of burns, in which case you're screwed until she hits menopause.

Guess we're no longer concerned that a certain badass admissions director is spying on us...
