Duke Part III - Can't get enough :)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Mine was just a joke. Kirexhana's, on the other hand...well, I'd like to think it was also just a joke...

i would lose my dry, sexually injected wit, if i told you it was all a joke. so i'm not going to admit to anything.

i have lots of love for you though, if it means anything 🙂

But he doesn't love you enough to be the father of your children. 🙁

did you guys get an email from Richard Wallace today too? the class is full and no movement unless someone withdraws. oh sadness...

i just hope a science nerd withdraws

Interesting...no email here.

Haha, I didn't get the email either, FCD. See, there is no rime nor reason to the admissions process. 🙂

i also got the email. basically it says it's full, but if someone withdraws, then the admissions will replace with similar candidate from the waitlist. science nerd! haha

i guess Richard Wallace's email box got really cluttered. hence the email to end all emails...

Being the optimist that I am ... I think I will concentrate on the "the class will not officially close until July 30th, 2007" part.

Ya, that's right. The email did say that rather emphatically so... still hope you know.

haha, thanks females. 🙂

OK honestly... who the hell is ranking this thread so low??????????? HUMBLE!?!?!?!

Ya, Durden... I have my theories for the low ranking... 😎

i just gave ya'll 5 stars....... i LOVE knowing that when i log onto SDN, this thread will always have something new & interesting to help pass the time! 🙂

Dude, this thread is almost as boring as the work I have to do. Let's play the get to know you game.

1.) Where are you from/where did you go to undergrad?
2.) What's your favorite color?
3.) What's your favorite food?
4.) What are you doing this summer?
5.) Which Grey's Anatomy character do you most relate to?

Ok, sorry these questions are lame, but I think I have a virus or something and I feel too lousy to be creative.

1.) MA/Wesleyan University (CT)
2.) Periwinkle (I hope it's yours too FCD, cuz that's what color my room is!)
3.) Chocolate! Lobster. Most seafood and italian food. And I like a good steak.
4.) Well, since we only get 3 weeks off, it's not terribly exciting. I'm moving, then driving up the east coast to MA, then going to Cape Cod for a week, seeing old friends, making my mom happy that I came home, and then I have to leave early to drive back down. My best friend from high school is going to drive down with me and we'll probably make a few stops on the way.
5.) Meredith. Hopefully next year I'll meet some hot neurosurgeon...

Current Dukies:

What lenders are you using for your Stafford Loans?

Sallie Mae, but that's b/c they were the lender for my undergrad loans, and I find it easier to have all my loans in one place.

1.) CA/Cal State LA
2.) Black, as in the color of my new KitchenAid Mixer and future PS3.
3.) Anything. Vietnamese, Korean, Shanghai, Northern Chinese, Szechuan, Sushi, Indian, BBQ, Fried Chicken... and def. a good steak. Don't get me started on dessert.
4.) going to TN for a certain someone's wedding. hopefully DC the week before, then the rest of my break in SoCal, soaking up the rays and perhaps a few days in SF
5.) Izzie. I'm gorgeous, bubbly and I love to bake. Did I mention my new Onyx Black Mixer?

Me too! Can we be lender twins? i <3 you!

Current Dukies:

What lenders are you using for your Stafford Loans?

Heh, not a current Dukie yet, but I've read that about half use Duke/Sallie Mae and half use Medloans (esp. if they're borrowing more than just Staffords). However, I just ran the calculations on the various lenders last week, and I don't actually think Duke is the best deal. (Use this site: http://www.finaid.org/calculators/loandiscountanalyzer.phtml.)

**Begin boring FinAid discussion**

The lenders fell into two discount categories: cash back/credit (Duke, MedPreferred) and interest rate reductions (Bank of America, Access, and Medloans). It makes them easy to compare, and if you look up the loan terms, it's pretty clear that in each group, the two best deals were MedPreferred and Medloans.

I'm borrowing around $35K in Stafford loans only (sub + unsub), so I calculated using those numbers. MedPreferred makes you pay the origination fee (3%), but gives you some pretty great cash back/credit offers in the repayment period. Medloans pays the origination fee and gives you some nice interest rate reductions. For my loan, the difference in overall payments (principal + interest) was about $700 less for MedPreferred over the course 10 years, assuming that I paid the interest while in school. If I didn't pay interest, MedPreferred had a $1500 advantage. However, I chose Medloans because 1) I will be paying the interest while in school and 2) the Medloans interest rate reductions begin during the in-school period, as opposed to the cash back that MedPreferred gives after graduation, so that my monthly interest payments while in school are less for Medloans. Since that's when I'll be less likely to earn any money, I figured that the extra $5/month over the 10 years after graduation were worth it.

Sorry to have intensified the boringness of the thread.

1.) Fairfax, VA, which, unlike pretty much the rest of the state is NOT the south. It's just outside Washington, DC, and, along with Charlottesville (where I went to school--UVA), is the only region in the entire state that consistently votes blue. (For reference, I'm purple, leaning blue.)
2.) Purple. Not associated with the previous question. However, I also like really deep, vivid colors in general: scarlet, emerald, royal blue, etc.
3.) Hmm... that's tough. I like food, in general. A lot, as you can tell by my constant references to baking/cooking. Pepperidge Farm Goldfish make me happy, except the new colored ones, which just creep me out. I think the one food that I will never turn down, though, is ice cream, in just about any flavor.
4.) Teaching MCAT prep for Kaplan, tutoring, going to the beach, getting some last bits of quality time with friends before I leave for Durham.
5.) Bailey. Most definitely.

1) Missouri/Vanderbilt
2) Yellow 🙂banana:/Ferrari)
3) Seafood followed by red velvet cake
4) Reading trashy novels and partying at the lake
5) Alex Karev. Cynical exterior, but loyal to friends.

1) North Carolina/Vanderbilt.
2) I'm colorblind, but probably green.
3) Popcorn shrimp w/onion rings and hush puppies.
4) Intensive piano practice, working out to counteract the effects of the MCAT and applications, and spending my first free summer in eight years with family and sleeping.
5) I've never seen the show, but on Scrubs I would be the male version of Elliott Reid.

1) West Texas/Texas Tech
2) Black or Red or Blue or White (none of which is the color of my future/diosa's current room)
3) Persian kabob and rice
4) freakin chillin out and doin nothin, going to Iran for 3 wks to visit my entire family whom I have never met, then packin up and comin to Durham to meet all yall 🙂
5) Karev... mostly misunderstood by the ladies until they break thru the exterior to find all of my warm fuzzies inside (plus I have the hots for anyone that looks like Addison Montgomery-Shepard)

Dang, was the class description bad or something?

1) Tampa, FL/Doooooooook
2) Navy blue
3) Cheeseburger and fries! followed by pasta (in terms of preference, not in the same meal)
4) Going home for a week for my grandmother's 80th birthday celebration, then two Europe for two weeks (one week each in Germany and Scotland)
5) I hate Grey's Anatomy. Thus, I will use Scrubs and say that I'd like to be the female version of Dr. Cox, but more accurately I'm like Carla (only not a nurse-to-be)

1.) Australia, England, WA State, Bay Area CA/UCLA
2.) Slate Blue or Eucalyptus Green
3.) Steak, risotto, cheese, ice cream, mango, strawberries, beer, sashimi, cadbury's chocolate and cheezels.
4.) Visiting NY and Seattle? Also fixing up my house. I just bought red couches. 😀
5.) Addison Montgomery-Shepherd. Confident in the career path, but with completely no idea what I want outside of that realm.

eh sorry my post wasnt supposed to be a slight against duke. i was just stating that even though richard wallace sent a class description email detailing all the new students' ugrads, that does not mean the class is "full." people will continue to get off the waitlist as students withdraw due to other schools' waitlists. good luck to those still waiting!

So where you headed Stolen?

My guess: UMich or WashU - the two schools that everyone I talked to at 2nd look were debating over. 😉

Stolen is probably going to Hopkins.
