This thread is for discussing applications to the University of Edinburgh School of Veterinary Studies in the 2024-2025 (class of 2029) cycle.
I'm curious about this too. I've taken a lot of STEM courses and every other prereq except cell bio. My university only offers it every other year and it's a super small class size.Hey, I’m thinking about applying but I haven’t taken cell bio yet. I’ve got all the other prereqs covered, but not sure if missing this one will seriously hurt my chances. I know it's recommended, but how much will it affect my application?

NopeHas anyone who applied through VMCAS gotten acknowledgement of your application or otherwise been contacted by Edinburgh?
Me neither. Looking at last year’s thread, it looks like no one heard from Edinburgh before late October last year, so I’m hoping we will be getting something soon!Has anyone who applied through VMCAS gotten acknowledgement of your application or otherwise been contacted by Edinburgh?
That’s nice to have, thanks for going digging for all that! This is my little (perceived) timeline for Edinburgh looking back on previous threads/their website if anybody else needs it:
Interview invites Nov - Dec (previous years).
Feb 6 - Feb 10 2025 Interview in NY.
Decisions by March 31 2025.
I don’t know either. It’s my first time applying to Edinburgh, and I haven’t heard anythingSo it's normal if we haven't heard anything from Edinburgh yet? I never got an email saying they were looking over applications or anything but maybe they just don't send those out.
I haven't heard from most of the schools I've applied to. Ross sent an email asking if I wanted to be considered for an earlier admission cycle and Glasgow has been sending out Ethical Reasoning Tests in batches. Aside from that, RVC and Massey have sent out forms for supplemental informationSo it's normal if we haven't heard anything from Edinburgh yet? NoHas anyone heard anything from Edinburgh?
Thank you for the info! It’s frustrating there’s no official timelines published/no further information given when you apply…Edinburgh last year didn’t send anything until interview invites / rejections. I was emailed on Dec 1 that there would be an update to applicants in a few days and then Dec 5 got my rejection email
Me too. They said it's because of my GPA so I checked the downloaded VMCAS application and they apparently calculate it in a strange way. My total undergrad GPA was a 3.4 (the minimum requirement) and my grad school GPA is currently a 4.0 but the way they calculated it made it a 3.2. It's kind of frustratingRejection this morning.
Where all did you apply? Also got a rejection this morning. I keep telling myself that one yes is all I need, but I am sad to see this one go.
I’m nervous, so as many places as I could! Auburn, Cornell, Massey, Kansas State, Long Island, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Midwestern, Ohio State, Oregon State, Ross, Purdue, Arizona, Edinburgh, UC Davis, Missouri, Melbourne, South Dakota State, Tennessee, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Western, Sydney, and I’m working on an application for Rowan that’s opening up in New Jersey next year. So far, I’ve got rejections from Edinburgh, South Dakota, and Melbourne; everyone else I’m either in various stages of supplemental application or just haven’t heard from yet. You?Where all did you apply?
I haven't heard anything at allHas anyone not heard anything from Edinburgh... Like at all? I assumed it would be into December when I would get word of anything due to mentions of it above.
Where can I find how they calculate it? My GPA for undergrad was low, but that of my core pre-vet foundation was 3.8 and I have two masters, one with 3.8+ and one with 4.0. Before sending them an email asking for further explanation, I'd want to see how they calculated mine. I applied through UCAS.Me too. I'm not sure about UCAS, but on VMCAS, we had the option to download our application, and on that, it looks like they calculate in every single course, even if the school that awarded the degree didn't. In my case, I took a couple of courses outside my university as an undergrad and transferred them in. My school didn't calculate them into my GPA, but it looks like Edinburgh does. I sent an email to confirm but they haven't replied yet.Where can I find how they calculate it? VMCAS doesn't show how the school calculates the grades, only how VMCAS themselves calculate the grades, FYII'm not sure about UCAS, but on VMCAS, we had the option to download our application, and on that, it looks like they calculate in every single course, even if the school that awarded the degree didn't. I'm tweaking reading this I've been insane about my email for weeks. Hang in there!!!Does anyone know if Edinburgh usually sends out their rejections or interview invites all at once? One of my friends got rejected from Edinburgh earlier this week, and I've been anxiously checking my email ever since ahhhh
Sorry to hear. Hopefully you’ll get in somewhere else! 🤞 Did you apply with VMCAS or UCAS?Just got my rejection 😕 good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back! Hopefully they reach out soon!
Thanks! I applied with VMCAS - if anyone else is curious about how they calculate GPA - they said I met their minimum requirement of 3.4 and I had a 3.59 so if you beat that you for sure met their gpa requirement!Sorry to hear. Hopefully you’ll get in somewhere else! 🤞 Did you apply with VMCAS or UCAS?
