Just received a conditional offer for next year- starting to explore residence options, any idea where vet students tend to stay on campus?

I am going to be in the 5 year program, guess there could be a mix in this group of 4 or 5 year program people.

I'll tell you what I wish I had known as a parent to help you manage expectations (student entered F25). The Vet school itself has been an excellent experience, as expected, and Edinburgh seems like a great college town. Unfortunately, you'll need to lower your expectations for the post-graduate housing options. The rooms, carpets, chairs, couches are dust-filled, stained, and smell of mildew and old food. One room had mold in the closet. There are no dressers in any of the rooms in one building, so students buy their own dresser or live out of suitcases. In addition, the buildings are in isolated areas. Newington is at the end of a road/alley along a construction site- Google Maps street view is not updated to reflect the construction. Riego is in a courtyard facing an underground parking lot, and the doorway is behind a bike shed and laundry/common room- see Google Maps aerial view. There is no evidence of security measures that you might expect besides cctv's that no one watches live - no gated access, no security personnel/cars, no "blue light" phone system, no evening RA at desk. Also no mailroom/package drop off place, so delivery people are trying to get in, but no one lets them in, so packages are left lying in the courtyard or taken somewhere in the city for pickup. It would seem reasonable for a University or Vet school to have a mail room. One student who had other options open left the program for many of the above reasons. I don't know if this is the norm for housing, but you should know what to expect if this school is on your list. You can always ask UOE Housing why the newer, modern UOE dorms down the block are not available to Vet students. While you're at it, ask the school why this is acceptable for GEP/international students? If you are expecting a better housing situation, I suggest you sign up for the 1 month housing option and get there early to try to find alternatives. There are many private, more typical dorms (easy to reserve but the less expensive rooms go quickly) and rental apartments (this takes time). Check the Lothian bus website. Connect with accepted classmates to find off-campus roommates. Reserve any hotels/B&Bs early because August books up for the Fringe Festival. All that being said, this is from a parent's perspective. Good luck.

Im applying from the US. Does anyone know how visas work for partners? I know Bristol has something where you can prove that you’re in a durable relationship so that partners can get on the student visa, but I can’t find anything on that for Edinburgh.

This is going to be my second time applying to Edinburgh, hoping for better luck this year and a quicker response. Pretty wild that there's already acceptances this early. Wonder if they're doing for 5 year students first though or was dogsruleTO's application just very appealing?

Just received my interview invite this morning. Mine says I have to fly to Scotland to interview. Is it the same location for everyone else?
I read on last years thread for Edinburgh that 1 person had to fly there for an interview (I believe reason given was that the spots in the US were filled). They did go and interview there (I would take my daughter there if we had to, but would obv prefer not to fly to Scotland for an interview). It wouldn't hurt to reach out to them and ask if you could be put on a waitlist for an interview spot in the US.

I got an interview invite this morning also!! Mine is in San Francisco (I live in CA), but I'm probably going to decline the invite.
Congratulations! May I ask why you are declining?

I've already heard back from schools closer to home in the US... I haven't made up my mind yet though😵‍💫

Congrats!!!!! That's so exciting! Did they invite you through email? I wasn't sure if they notify via email or if they have a portal.

I received the invitation through email! I am not sure whether they have a portal or not. I didn’t get any confirmation email after submitting my application through VMCAS in August, so this is actually the first communication I’ve gotten from them!

Thank you and congrats! I still haven't heard so I guess we will see. Is yours in San Francisco as well?

I may have been scrambling through my emails and they are the only school I applied to that didn't send a confirmation email that they received my application at all. A bit nerve wracking

Thanks! Mine will be in NYC which works out great cuz I am on east coast.

Yeah I can totally relate to that! I was exactly the same trying to go through my spam folder to see if there’s any email I missed from them. I was literally about to email them before Thanksgiving to make sure if everything was good/received.

Congrats to everyone!! Do ppl know if they release the invites over phases? Or if you haven't heard do you assume you're not receiving an invite?
I don't really know what to think in all honestly. Did you apply for the 4 year or 5 year program? I'm going to lean towards a waitlist or rejection so I don't get my hopes up but hopefully it's not the case. Best of luck!

I haven't heard back from them yet, but that kinda sucks having to fly that far and spend all that money. Last year I applied to Dublin and they only made me fly to NYC. Wonder when the rest of us will hear back from them

Yeah I feel that if they were done sending interviews they would've sent the rejections. I've been told by someone who called that their spots are all full and they plan on people scheudling on Nov. 20th, so I'm guessing they're waiting to see if people decline and then will go from there. Good luck!

Hello! Has anyone who got an interview invite in the US gotten any more confirmation/follow up about it? I submitted the RSVP form on 11/20 and slightly worried I was late. Thanks for any insight!
