You need to go to the ECFMG web site and go to the ECFMG-ERAS section. From there you can apply for an ERAS token. Once you get the ERAS token the next step is to go to the AAMC website (MyERAS section) and submit the ERAS token. Then you will be given an AAMC number.
The next step is to submit your supporting documents for scanning. The mailing address is on the AAMC or ECFMG site (3624 Market St, Philadelphia I think.....but check the website to make sure!!). The supporting documents are : Letters of Recommendation (at least three), Medical School Transcript, MSPE (Medical Students Performance Evaluation....which you will need to get from the Dean's Office of your medical school....can take a couple weeks for them to get it ready for you..so you need to move pronto). You also need to send a Document Submission Form along with these documents.
It is recommended that these documents reach ERAS by September 1st....and they suggest you submit them by July 31st to allow enough time for them to process/scan the documents.
On the AAMC MyEras page you need to fill out a lot of information (CV, Personal Statement, etc) and apply for your programs of interest.
The next step is to register with NRMP on their website. The start date for this is from August 15th.
Of course in the meantime you need to finish all your other steps and get the results back in time so that your ECFMG certificate and USMLE transcript will be ready to be sent to the programs you apply for.
The interview period for most programs runs from November 2010 to January 2011 (well, for this season anyways).
So while it is not impossible for you to apply for 2011, you certainly will have your hands full. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
