FlexMed 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't think there's any Ivy bias, students from Ivy League schools are more bright than students from other schools, so more likely to admit
What an absurd generalization and if you count yourself amongst those you might want to make sure you use correct grammar. “Brighter” not “more bright”

Yeah really gotta agree with daisydukes99...I was accepted to JHU but couldn’t attend because My instate was offering way more money that it made more sense for undergrad to not be in debt. That doesn’t mean because i went to a state school I’m less bright than someone at JHU or an ivy league. And the same could be said for those accepted to ivy leagues but choose to go to other schools for practical or personal reasons. To make a generalization that people who go to Ivy leagues are brighter is high key unfounded and quite frankly disrespectful.

Do you all think that we will receive decisions before July 4th weekend? Also, does anyone know what percentage of interviewed applicants are accepted?

tbh i think it's possible since last year they heard back on june 27th so we could hear from them next tuesday-wednesday based on the 2016 and 2017 threads. As far as numbers go last year had 185 interviews with 54 accepted (~30%).

This year 130 interviews I'm pretty sure if I recall correctly. And they said they never have a set number of acceptances so it could vary but I'd guess around 50 or so

140 interviews! And yeah they said it would depend on the individual applicants. But also they said they'd get decisions out by the second week of July at the latest. I'd be impressed if they got it out in June at all.

They told us on interview day

I thought they said around 180 close to 200?

Anyone else find it weird that on the application portal, it says "General Application Deadline: Wednesday, June 20, 2018"? I wonder if that means they finished reviewing applications.
Yeah they definitely told us about 140! And did that date change recently to June 20? Maybe that was like the latest you could turn in transcripts or something for schools on the quarter system who finish later

To those who received a rejection - did you get it directly in an email or did you have to check your portal? What did it say exactly?

Are you talkng about prior to the interview invites or after the interviews? Because I don’t think anyone has received anything after the interviews yet.

And everything will come via email they stated, acceptances and rejections.

Hey kiddos! In terms of how many people interviewed, less than previous years makes sense—the window for interviews seems to have been much shorter this year, with only one “round” of invites (right? I think so...) and interview dates only in April, as opposed to previous years, where March interviews happened too...if I remember correctly!

In terms of when we will get the results, there doesn’t seem to be one solid answer. The FlexMed pamphlet in the interview folder says July 1st, the website says early July, and if I remember correctly, the coordinators at the interview said first two weeks of July. And yet, in past years it has come out sometimes in late June, though this year everything has been later...so in short, who knows!

I guess someone could call and ask, but I don’t think anyone wants to be *that* student 😳 So we’ve just got to wait and see...and remember, knowing the result earlier won’t change the result!

(...I’m already gearing up for MCAT prep...! :writer:)

I can't get myself to start studying until I find out lol

I'm mid MCAT prep too and I just want to know so I know if I need to double down on the studying:/

I sHOULD clarify, by "gearing up for MCAT studying" I mean morosely scrolling through "top mcat tips!!" forum posts while annihilating a bag of animal crackers :hungover: Haven't really begun yet!

But wow, @RelStdPreDoc --good on you for getting ahead of the game! Gotta hope for the best and prepare for the worst...

Does anyone know if they contact recommenders?

Does anyone know if they contact recommenders?
I doubt they would... Are you asking if they contacted them to find out more information or if they will contact recommenders of the final decision?

Does anyone know roughly what time they tend to come out?
over the past three years it's been July 1st, June 26th, and June 27th was last year, but online it says by July 1st and on interview day they said within the first two weeks of July

haha no, i meant like time (as in am or pm). I know that's like a super specific thing to ask but just in case someone knows from previous years lol..

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find timestamps on posts from all the other forums...if y'all remember, though, the interview invites were sent around 5pm-ish EST, I think! I wouldn't be too surprised if it was similar with this.

Here is a meme to soothe your weary souls

Asking more information

I think whatever day they will come, it'll be around 3-4 PM eastern right before admissions office closes for the day (also that's when the interview email was sent as well). Best of luck all!

They’re probably going one at a time. Mine was just sent at 10:49 east coast

Oh well--it was real fun to be on the forum you guys!! Good luck to all who got in, and to all those rejected, you can make it through!! <3

Rejected 🙁. Bummer but congrats to all who got in!

Rip rejected too. Sigh back to mcat studying I guess, but I low key wish I just flat out didn’t get an interview than get a no right now.
Best of luck to all y’all!

Also REJECTED! Congrats to all who got in! My physician interview honestly was not good, so I'm not surprised. It felt like my interviewer was out to get me unlike the typical conversation most people had:/ But that's okay! Back to MCAT studying

Ugh...now we have to deal with all you super talented individuals who didn't get into this program. I'm seeing many II's and acceptances for you all in the future!

Did anyone get into flexmed but was rejected from other early acceptance programs? I'm trying to gauge the competitiveness of these programs.

Didn't apply to anything, but know multiple people who did. FlexMed is by far the best early acceptance program that you can apply for in college. As for high school programs, Northwestern's and WashU's are even better (though u need to keep a good GPA in college and take the MCAT).
FlexMed is meant for people very interested in the humanities. I think a lot of really intelligent people apply because they want early assurance, but it's really not meant for them. In fact, when they actually apply to med school, these high achieving people will get into excellent schools even better than Icahn.
