thank you in advance

Well, let me tell you that for the CPE you really have to be prepared!!! I don't know if Vegas really is harder than any other site, but it was probably the most stressful three days of my life!!! Once you get your manual of administration, make sure that your know every section inside and out. I strongly suggest that you find doctors that will help you review the sections and that you get hands-on practice before taking the test. Make sure you start studying this even before you ask for your application (found on the AVMA website): http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/cpe_common_diagnoses.pdf

I passed four sections and need to retake three: food animal, anesthesia, and surgery. I felt that I did relatively well in food animal and anesthesia so I am requesting feedback on my scores before I apply to retake those sections. They are particularly picky about the anesthesia and surgery sections, so review, review, review! Another site with a lot of good review info is: http://vetvideos.com/

Best of luck to you all!

Hi guys,
I am in my early stages of studying veterinary at an AVMA accredited school, outside the US.
Could u guys tell me if u know any foreign graduates who got onto specialty training in the US?
Also, whats the visa situation like?I dont have a green card.
They say australia is quite a bit easier for the latter, and i wouldnt have to sit any exams but the US is my dream.
Thanks a lot
Good luck to you all

Anyone who just took their CPE who's kind enough to share their experience? Nothing pertaining to the test itself but important pointers and the big NO's and positive things you can share.

For those who want to know...I think the surgery section of the CPE is the most difficult to prepare for because many foreign schools don't necessarily teach the "correct" way of prepping for surgery, such as scrubbing, gowning, draping, etc... Not to mention it is hard to get experience doing surgery if you are not licenced in the US. If anyone has good tips on how to prep for this section of the CPE, we would greatly appreciate it!

I'm in the same position as you. I did this year three externships in the US and my idea was to validate my career through the ECFVG then I found out I couldn't do it because my College is not listed in the AVMA, then I heard about the PAVE and I started to look for information but validate the career by the PAVE is very EXPENSIVE and unfortunately I cant afford it. I'm trying that my college send all the papers to the AVMA and who knows maybe next year I can take the ECFVG but for the moment I cant and I'm very sad about it. However I'm going to apply this year to an equine internships in some Universities that accept foreign graduates and dont require license or had approved the ECFVG-PAVE, although is very hard to get accepted I wont loose my hopes.

About your question, the other alternative to get a vet license in the US is the PAVE. Is not a matter of choice of doing the NAVLE or the ECFVG...You have to take both! but only if your doing the validate process. You can't take the NAVLE without doing the first steps of the ECFVG or the PAVE. Unfortunately I have to wait and see If in any point I would be able to get my career validation but is out of my hands right now :( I'll be praying and crossing my fingers to get accepted in an internship.

Hi, Catavet, Thank you so much for your reply. Now I know that there are a lot of people who have the same dream as mine. Let's fight together. bless you.

Hi guys-,

I am a vet from Japan and I am trying to get a license through the PAVE program. I will take the QE next January and I am busy studying for it right now while doing some externships.

Since I have spent so much money on study materials as many of you did, I thought it would be nice to have some free content to learn vet med in English so we don't have to waste our money on study materials or time on working as a tech or externship etc. I know such experiences are valuable but it would be great if we can circumvent it, right?

I am going to make a video series reviewing vet med on Youtube.com. This is the first video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cKHCj10nqQ. I hope this will be a great (quick and cheap!) way to review vet med in English. I apologize for some Japanese here and there in the video, but it is mainly in English. I also want to apologize for the quality of the video, and my English. I promise it will get better! As you all know, as a foreign vet trying to practice in the U.S., I'm not the richest person in the world!

Anyway, hope you can enjoy the videos (more are coming up!). And if there is a QE study group out there, let me know! I want study buddies!

Yoko

Hi, VetYoKo,

Thank you for sharing. You are so great. Nice to meet you here. I visited your website and got to know you. Actually I have the same career goal as yours. I am Chinese and doing postdoc in US. I hope someday I will become a vet in US, have my own clinic and also do some research in university.
I am doing research on gene regulation of motabolic disease in a medical school in US. Maybe someday we can meet in a conference, since you are alos doing research.
best wishes

Hey Guys
Finally I got scheduled my Anesthesia retake. I am doing it in Vegas this January 2012! Good luck to everyone. If anyone is taking the CPE (full or part) in Vegas this Jan. drop me a line.

To all of you that are taking CPE soon. At this point you guys have the knowledge that takes for the test. CPE is gonna be the most stressful time of your student-life. So remaining calm and focus will be your keys to success.

Good Luck

Hi I am new to this forum, I just took the BCSE in November and I got my results yesterday, I passed on BCSE and I am taking NAVLE in April, also I want to register for the CPE, I have heard that takes quite a bit of time even a year to get a spot, however My step 1 is still incomplete and I sent the transcripts and diploma notarized copies, but I think the ECFVG also sends a form with my picture that has to signed by the Dean of my school and then returned to the ECFVG, my school in Brazil is not the best when come to paperwork, not even mention that I dought that any secretary that could possibly have gotten that actually Knows English, therefore not having a clue what is about, maybe even got ready of it, anyway, I tried to call and mail ECFVG coordinator to ask what is still missing so I can take care of it, but no luck so far...no response, so I would like to ask you guys what were the documents you guys had to send and your school to complete step 1...OHHH YEahh I forgot to mention why I am asking, is because I got a memorandum with my scores saying that now We cannot register for the CPE before steps 1, 2, and 3 are completed, before I know you could , except you wouldn't get your certificate of completion, but you could register for the test, anyway they change the rules for that just now in DEcember...my luck...

thanks for any info

For those who need info about exams:
I finished all the exams, and already working as a vet for over 2 month now. I did CPE in Vegas in Sept 2011. For any question about CPE, NAVLE contact me at [email protected]

hi im from iran and im d.v.m i want to kow can i passed exam like bsce in another country before goinig to usa or i have to pass all exam in usa?

yes you can take both NAVLE and BCSE in your Country, just go in the AVMA-ECFVG page and read the candidate bulletin and in the NBVME web page for the NAVLE bulletin, pretty much every single question you can possibly have about how to enroll, pay, register, change dates, location...etc will be in the bulletin, I mean everything, its all matter of going in the web site and cautiously read it, the only thing that you won't find in there is specific info about the actual exam, such as questions obviously, but all the proceedings are very well explained

Well, once finish all the process, you are ready to go. You can apply for a license in the state you want to work.

2.and give me the salary for d.v.m and d.v.m specialist in year

Median annual wages of veterinarians were $79,050 in May 2008. The middle 50 percent earned between $61,370 and $104,110. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $46,610, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $143,660.

The average annual salary for veterinarians in the Federal Government was $93,398 in March 2009.

According to a survey by the American Veterinary Medical Association, average starting salaries of veterinary medical college graduates in 2008 varied by type of practice as follows:

Small animals, exclusively $64,744
Large animals, exclusively 62,424
Small animals, predominantly 61,753
Mixed animals 58,522
Large animals, predominantly 57,745
Equine (horses) 41,636

3.and if we have passed all exam we can work as a d.v.m or we must to going to residency and after that we can working in u.s.a
thanks for all your helping

yes, you can work. Residencies are too competitive to get into.

Good luck!

Hi Usermyca,
my confirmation with the school is not completed yet neither, but you can stil take the NAVLE right away, which is what the most of people do because they have a fresh memory of everything from the BCSE.
It doesn't take a year to get a spot for the CPE .
Sent me a email and i'll send you my phone number, maybe we can chat a little about it. :)

Hi there
I had to do the same thing. I took the form and literally waited for the Dean of my school. Explained him the situation. And he gladly signed the form and gave it back to me in a school envelop.

Hi All,

I'm new to the ECFVG process, graduated from South Africa in 2006 and have worked in a number of small animal practices in Melbourne, Australia over the past few years. I have just missed the BCSE exam window for Nov/Dec 2011, so am planning to sit BCSE at the next opportunity in March 2012. Am living in Alexandria, Virginia, am interested in contacting anyone who is preparing for BCSE or just completed it.
Please let me know if anyone in that area is interested in a study group or to share experiences!
Hi,
I am also preparaing for BCSE exam and looking for a partner to study for the exam. I am in Denver, co. If u are interested we can start with the studies as soon as possible.
Thanks.

For CPE you have to work in a clinic...no way around it, you need to practice with someone

I hope this help..........
Hello,
I know this post is from years ago but I was trying to find some info about H1b visa and when I saw this I decided to reply with a question.
I'm veterinarian from Croatia without NAVLE, I'm also a vet tech and I'm planing to apply for H1b this April. I have a veterinarian who is willing to apply for me as a veterinary technologist because I don't have a license to work as a vet. Does anyone has any experience with same thing? Does anyone know can I get H1b visa as a vet tech or technologist or maybe assistant? Please help.
Thank you all.

I think there are no problem to get a H1 visa as long as there is someone would like to hire you. I know in some states it is not necessary to have license of vet assistant as long as you have vet degree. good luck

Hello,
Sorry I am not be able to answer your question. I do have a question for you. How do you prepare BCSE? Do you think vetprep or zuku is useful? which one is better?zuku sales tests for BCSE specifically. Are they just pull out some questions from the NAVLE pool? Anyone has an answer? really appreciated!:)

Hi guys!
Just in case you don't know there are 2 ways to get our license.

One is through the ECFVG program of the AVMA
http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/default.asp

the other is through the PAVE program of the AAVSB
http://www.aavsb.org/PAVE/PAVEHome.aspx

Here is a link where they compare both programs:

Hi, I've already finished NAVLE and english proficiency test and been waiting for me to be prepared for the CPE exam.
I'm wondering if there are any source for the test. I've heard that there are some books and videos for it. Please let me know.
Hello there,
I saw in thread that you had already completed NAVLE. I am vet graduate from Nepal. Now trying to appear for BCSE and NAVLE can you please let me konw what can be the best tool to study. your suggestion would be very grateful thanks.

Hi all,
just wanted to let you know I finally got my ECFVG certificate!
I started thus journey in September 2009. I choose ECFVG cause is accepted in all US.
to complete step 1 I got all my records and scores from Vet School. Got them stamped by Education and Exterior Relationship Ministers in Peru. Then got them officially translated to english ( it was way cheaper to do it in Peru) and sent all that to AVMA / ECFVG.
To complete step 2. I took TOEFL. I had to take it twice to get the score required.
For step 3. I used zukureview for 5 months. 100 questions/day for 4-5 days a week.
for NAVLE I studied Zuku again. Did not pass. The second time I used Vetprep for 4 months.
For step 4 I took it very close to second NAVLE. I practiced sx in Peru. And watched a lot of videos from Youtube about large animals and horses. I failed anesthesia.
I retook anesthesia in jan 17-18in Vegas. And passed!

So there you have it that is my formula. I was working as Vet Tech the whole time. The Drs. helped me a lot with questions and explanations.

This is the end of this journey, I hope you don't give up and persevere.
I made some good friends here and during tests. I wish you the best to you all.

I passed BCSE in December and will be moving soon, have a set of studying materials I want to sell, eg.Pasquini, McCurnin..... contact my via [email protected] if interested.

Congratulations Peruvian Vet, that was an awesome journey. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it a lot.

Hello everybody,
I have just passed the NAVLE and I will try to take the CPE sometime around august in vegas. I would really appreciate any suggestions on study materials that you have used or if you could share your experiences. Has anybody tried the vcrc? Any reliable necropsy manuals or videos?
Best of luck to you all..
By the way, for BCSE, I used mosby veterinary technician book and vetprep for NAVLE..

Hello all:)
I'm Japanese veterinarian graduated from vet university in Japan 2011.
Now I am working at livestock hygiene center as a public vet in Japan.
Although I don't have clinical experience except practices in university, I'm interested in having veterinary internship especially equine field in USA, Canada or UK.
So is it possible for me without clinical experience to pass the residency matching program by AAVC? Or I should apply after working in equine vet clinic in Japan for years?

I'm new here and am so happy to find such a wonderful forum to talk about our veterinary career with vets from all over the world!
In Japan it's hard to get useful information, so please give me advice.

Thank you for reading

Aiko

Hello all,

I just wanted to let you know that I've passed QE this Jan 2012. Getting into a clinical year probably this Sep. I posted the study materials that I used on my website yoko.ambrosini.us. (it's under "share your experience"). My friend who just passed BCSE also agreed to put her study materials on the website, so those of you who're doing ECFVG should check out my website too.

I will try my best to share my experience with new people so please don't hesitate to email me ([email protected]) when you have questions. For example, I didn't know that people were having hard time finding study materials for QE or BCSE. I thought this forum would be enough! But now I'm getting a lot of emails regarding the study materials (and apparently some people don't want to share...), so now I know that I should post that on my website. So please please ask questions so I know what is needed for new foreign vets to get US licensure.

Also, if you already passed exams or CPE, it would be great if you can share your experience, study materials for new foreign vets. Shoot me an email with your experience!

Good luck to everybody and wish me luck on finishing this process soon!
