Hello everyone,

just to share my bad experience with IBTOEFL. I passed the exam combining my first and second score( first time 4 points wasn't enough on reading part) and required both my scores to be transferred to ECFVG program. My first score never was received and my second score has no picture attached. ECVFG program require picture on every single score( this is to written on their official page, they just say that they accept only score reported directly from IBTOEFL)....now I am waiting ECFVG to decide if they will accept official letter from TOEFL to verify my score and explain that it was their mistake not to attach my picture...I am very disappointed because I may have to take the toefl again and I was ready to sign for BCSE test... Please let me know if anybody else had similar experience. Good luck, everyone.

Does anybody have any experience with Veterinary Skills Training and Enhancement Program in Ontario, Canada?
Thank you.

No one will help you as far as visa sponsorship to come to US just to shadow, unless is somebody that you know personally and is willing to help you. I don't want give you really advice about visa as I do not know much about it, and it can be different for each country.

Anyhow, in your case I think your option is pretty obvious. It looks like you have to come through a school program so you can get a visa. Having that said I would go to Oklahoma if I was you. They have a kind "specific program" for the foreign graduates. It is also more affordable than the other schools I think around $ 30000. I think most place ask you for $45000 to 50000. Oklahoma is also a fairly cheap state to live. I don't know if you care for saving some money. I met 2 girls that went there for the CPE and they liked, they seemed a lot more prepared for the actual test than me (I went to other school). They also told me that their program gave them a lot more freedom to do the rotations they actually needed, which I did not have. I had no saying on my rotations, I just had to do as I was told.

Here is their website:

Anyway good luck
What school did you go?

Dear future veterinarians
I went through the rigorous process of BCSE, NAVLE and CPE, couple of years ago, worked few places. If you need any help and guidance or practical experience (within the legal limits) do contact me. I am trying to set up a place where you folks can come study, discuss and succeed in becoming properly trained veterinarians. I went through difficult times in not able to access to even information, study material forget about practical exposure. Passing these exams is half the story, you need to have practical exposure of dealing with clients, diagnosis process, and running tests, taking radiographs, interpretation, performing dental exam, to be able to meet the requirements of not only passing the exams but be able to step in to job market. Again please be aware that you would need liability insurance to be volunteering in a hospital and these limitations on what you can do as a unlicensed veterinarian. I live in SanDiego county, CA. good luck to you. Cheers

Is anyone preparing for the BCSE in Dallas? I'm from Colombia and just started the ECFVG process.

Maybe we could swap some study materials or help each other out with the BCSE. I'm taking the test in March.

Sorry, I did not understand. Is it University of Idaho, Illinois, Indiana or Iowa? The reason I ask is I am trying to find the best way to get ready for CPE. All programs available in the US and Canada (there are not so many of them) are pricy. I am trying to find the most efficient way to get ready for that exam. I don't want to waste money for something that I can learn without a school and I don't want to waste time for working as a vet tech and trying to get ready for CPE (there are not time limits).
Thank you for your help.

HI DR. s . I'm recently joined and read about 20 page of this blog .at the end I think VETPREP or ZUKU and NVMS will be enough for BCSE . am I write?
Also It's about 7 years that I didn't practice pet animals also large animals do you think these source are enough?

ZUKU-BCSE (but you have to finish all the questions, I know that is hard, but wroth it). Vetprep doesn't have a BCSE type of questions.

Thank you very much for your kind replay. What about NVMS books ?
You know what, everybody recommend those books as reference, but me personally didn't use them, even for the NAVLE, they are too long to read and in my opinion; they are not as valuable as finishing all the questions for VETPREP (in the case of the NAVLE). I don't think they important at all for the BCSE, if you can do all the questions in ZUKU-BCSE you will be in a better shape, I personally like better the Pasquini books as reference, the problem again is the time to review everything. I did a bin with the more important topics and that was GOLD for my study, then after passing the BCSE, it become my NAVLE bin while adding the most important topics.

They have changed BCSC a lot. It is not like it used to be and now it is kind of mini NAVLE. ZUKUreview for BCSC is good but your chances are greater if you study NVMS small animals. This is what I think. Best of luck.

ILLINOIS. I don't think is a waste of time and money, but you may be able to prepare for the CPE by other means. But I don't think anyone can pass the CPE without being prepared either, just saying. One thing though about doing a clinical year at a University is that looks good in your resume. when looking for a job, some employers feel more comfortable to hire someone that had an official clinical training in US. Good luck

Hello Dr, Is Mosby vet technician review worth studying for sections .... basic anatomy, radiology, surgical instruments, hematology, cytology, nutrition sections ? shld I use this boook, cz I heard now days BCSE is hard not like before, and is this book enough ? or should I study other sources like Merck vet manual, NVMS small animal and large animal for BCSE exam preparation rather than Mosby vet technician review book. Till date I am studying from Merck vet manual and Mosby tech review. Any vet recently passed BCSE exam please advise me. My BCSE exam is on 22 April in Gurgaon India. bit nervous and confused. Plz help. Please contact me at [email protected] I live in India.

I wouldn't say no, but I never heard of it. If I have to guess I would say that is very unlikely (but that's just a guess). Although you may be able to get an arrangement with the school in which you would only stay on emergency medicine. That may be possible, but they may limit the time you would be able to shadow only one service. I think most schools would maybe allow this for a max of 3 months (just a guess as well). Again the best way to find out is to contact the school and talk about what you looking for and see if they can accommodate your needs.
