Hello everyone!

This is my first time posting a thread on here but I thought I should since I am in a bit of a pickle. I have received interview invites for Samuel Merrit and Fresno State but both interviews happen to be on the same day in January (January 30th). I just wanted to get opinions as well as perspectives on which would be the better school to attend the interview for, in terms of getting accepted. Also, does anyone from past interview cycles know what time of day Fresno's interview is usually at? I contacted the admissions but she couldn't disclose any information and I was thinking if Fresno's interview is a little bit later in the day I might be able to make it to both. Crazy I know.

Thoughts? Opinions? Help me out! 🙁

Wow this is a really tough situation, I'm sorry you're in such a bind! Fresno spaces them all out through the single day, so I think there would be interview slots through the whole morning and afternoon. It's tough to pick one over the other... What are your stats?

Both in one day might be possible, despite the 3 hour distance between campuses. Fresno doesn't sound like it cares to be accommodating, from the email with the interview invite. It makes sense, given how many applicants they get. Maybe once Fresno sets a time, you can see if SMU would be flexible?

My Stats are:

University: San Jose State University
Major: Kinesiology
Cumulative GPA: 3.08
Overall GPA: 3.26
Prereq GPA (with best attempts for SMU and CSUF): 3.5
GRE: Verbal 154, Quant. 147, AW 5.0

PT Observation Hours: 1000 outpatient ortho (PT Aide), 51 outpatient aquatic, 195 Inpatient/Acute

Extra Curricular's: VP and Secretary Student Affairs Committee, Biomechanics Tutor, Kinesiology Major Mentor, Aqua Aerobics Instructor, Adapted Swim Instructor, Global Brigades Public Health Volunteer Honduras, Medical Aid Tent Volunteer SJ Rock N Roll Marathon, Habitat for Humanity, Kinesiology Ambassadors Club member, Pre-PT Club member, Fuerza Escolar volunteer (volunteered at elementary school to help children with reading skills), Dean's List, Spanish speaker

Applied: ALL OVER. It will take me a while to list them all down

Interviews: University of St. Augustine- San Marcos (11/20) , SMU (1/30), Fresno State (1/30), University of Miami (1/15)

Acceptances: N/A

Rejections: APU, NAU

I contacted SMU and thought they would be more lenient about maybe letting me do the interview on Friday (which is also required to attend) but she said that the interviewing faculty isn't available that day to interview. I was thinking about waiting a bit to see if Fresno sends out further information regarding the Interview schedule and then maybe try to get an earlier interview day with SMU on Saturday but as of now I'm kind of lost on what to do in this situation. 🙁

If you really had to choose between the 2 solely based on chances of getting in, I'd suggest shooting for SMU. The average GPA of accepted DPT students is lower than CSUF (3.3ish vs. 3.6ish) according to startclass.com. Also, CSUF has a much larger applicant pool, so more competition? My own take on it, others may disagree; plus startclass could have faulty data. Regardless, best of luck going forward with this issue!

I also agree with going to SMU because you will have a higher chance of acceptance, assuming both interviews go well. However, SMU is significantly more expensive, so it would be awesome if you could attend both interviews in one day. I thought CSUF had two days of interviews though....When I attended I thought they interviewed 80 students/day, but maybe it was 80 students in the morning and then 80 in the afternoon.

Have you contacted Fresno State to notify them of the conflict? They may be able to accommodate somehow, whether it's a later interview or a Skype interview.

Ask one to reschedule.

Have you made any headway into your decision?? I am in the same situation, as of now i scheduled an interview at SMU but not at Fresno. It seems to me it might be easier to get into SM but also more expensive. If priced the same I don't know which one I would choose.

I tried to talk to both of them about scheduling my interview on a different date and neither of them were accommodating. As of now, I am just attending the SMU interview and havent responded to Fresno state about their interview. I also feel I have a better chance of getting into SMU and it's also one of my top choices.

That really, really sucks. I'm sorry you had such terrible luck, and I hope everything turns out well.

Thank you! I hope everything works out too. Will probably just go to the SMU interview. They are one of my top schools anyways 🙂

Yeah same here. As of now I'm just scheduled at the SMU interview and didn't respond to Fresno. It sucks. I wish they would be more understanding and offer make up interview days 🙁

Faced this dilemma last night and this morning.. I ended up declining at SMU for a shot at Fresno. When I emailed SMU, I asked if they could be flexible, but I don't expect much accommodation from reading what everyone had to say on this thread. Missing out on the opportunity is definitely a little depressing, but on the bright side, there are worse problems to have! BEST OF LUCK to everyone interviewing at either institution next weekend

Anyone looking into room sharing the night before interviews? Book a hotel and split the cost?
I will be flying in from Colorado from an interview at Regis and have spent more than enough on flights and hotels -__-
I have already booked this room ( http://www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-photos/fatri-residence-inn-fresno/ )
E-mail me for info.

Good Luck everyone!
When is your Regis interview? Friday? I fly from Cali TO Denver this weekend ha! Just curious, seems we have opposite interviewing schedules 🙂
