How much time do you need to move and get ready to start before classes begin. I don't think we'll be hearing the night before school, but logistically FSU is cutting things kind of close with an early summer start.

I dont think it is too difficult to move there, I've heard its pretty easy to find apartments there and the prices don't seem too outrageous. On my interview day I was told they do notify some people the day before school starts, but I would hope that it is not a large number!! And it is cutting things close with FSU being an early start program and all...does anyone know any other school that is early start???? If so, is it similar to how FSU has their program?

i love the new pics guys... 🙂

Well, it's the end of the week. i hope everyone can try and enjoy their weekend...keyword:TRY... :luck:

3rd: Someone asked about Bridge. (Sorry I don't remember who, I just read through so many posts). But Bridge is the post-bac program. The number of students that they accept into this program is always 10% of the 1st year class. So for the upcoming year they should accept 10 people. I don't know much about the curriculum during Bridge, but I know that they do take Anatomy with the 1st year med students. And throughout the program they can only get A's and B's to get accepted into the first year class the next year. I think that it's a great program. They use Bridge for those students that they want to be in their med school, but Bridge just helps them to transition into med school a little better. Maybe their GPA or MCAT score isn't as high as they would like it to be.

As someone who's planning to apply to FSU during the next app cycle, I'm interested in stats. I read their website, but I always think schools lowball it. Will any brave souls tell me their stats so I can figure out if I'm somewhere in the average? I'm interested in Bridge too but I'm wondering how low a GPA/MCAT would probably be to be accepted into Bridge for the year prior to matriculation. I have a 4.0 BCPM GPA (it could come down to 3.8 after this semester, but then I'm through), but only a 3.02 overall because I earned my undergrad degree 12 years ago and graduated with only a 2.6. I changed my ways and since I hadn't taken any pre-recs, I was able to get a high science GPA. I'm taking the MCAT in August because I didn't feel I would be ready for the April one since I'm taking Phys II, Orgo II, and Calc this semester. I know some schools will automatically dismiss my low overall GPA, but will FSU since I'm a FL resident and it is just barely above a 3.0?

Good luck to all of you! I hope you all get in!

If you have a 4.0 in BCPM and graduated back then with a 2.6 then I think it's safe to assume that you didn't take any science classes 12 years ago? Maybe you majored outside the sciences? Anyways, that's ok, your 4.0 BCMP will really be a plus, and as long as you GPA being close to 3.0, they also look at trends a lot, so if you have a 3.9 GPA in the last, let's say 2 years, that is a real plus! Doing well on the MCAT is the Highest of your high priorities right now. The next one being to APPLY EARLY this year. Actually you should start filling your AMCAS as soon as it's available online!!! I can't stress enough the point of applying early. You can make it with those numbers, you just need to do as well as you can on the MCAT to give your stats a little kick.

Hope that helped, don't be afraid to post your questions here, someone will surely answer.

The rest of you guys out there...you know who you are, ..yeah, you biting your nails, let's hope next week is the week...

bump... here is to hearing something this week. :luck: :luck:

Oh, I don't think I have any nails left.

I would really like to hear some type of information this week. The complete lack of any communication makes this so much more difficult!

For those who are on Hold at FSU, is this your last option? If you do not get into FSU, do you have any other ideas or options??? I just wanted to see if anyone else had alternatives. If i dont get in, i plan on doing a medical sciences program. Anyone else?

I'm going to apply to a ton more schools and get my app in as early as possible. My stats are ok, and I'm a non-trad, so any academic work really isn't a good option for me. I've confirmed this however. With Rel at USF, great guy, and a med school consultant. I'll be dissappointed if I don't get in, but it won't rock my world.

I'm on hold/waitlisted at a number of schools, and if none of them take me than I'll try a masters program. Even if they don't start making offers, some new info from the FSU camp this week would help pass the time.

What is the first day of classes?

First day of Orientation at FSU is: Tuesday May 30
First day of Classes at FSU iss: Monday June 5

Anyone else out there struggling to get in those last minute requirements to Ms. Ogelsby before May 1? My blood work will be done in two days, but I still have to send in my transcripts. Man, i need to kick out this procrastination habit before Med school starts... Is there any more of us out there?

just curious what the pre-matriculation requirements you are talking about are (ie...bloodwork, shots, etc.) ?? I am currently waitlisted at FSU but been accepted a few other places. just was wondering what specifically fsu asked for. thanks! 🙂

When we got in they sent us all the healthcare info- and yes, I did all mine already. We are all worried about the drive not kickin in for med school. I am so burnt out. We only have one month!!

So, I've been going to the gym a lot lately and it seems to be helping relieve the stress of waiting. 🙂 Here's for good luck :luck:

Don't stress too much. I am an M1 there and I remember that during orientation last year, they had blocks of time built into the schedule for new students to go to Thagard (FSU's health clinic) and fulfill their health requirements. Remember, some students get accepted the day before or the day of orientation, so they obviously won't have their health requirements done.

I don't think you have to worry about Bridge, as long as your MCAT is okay. FSU COM accepts quite a few "non-traditionals" each year (not going directly out of undergrad). If your MCAT is good and your personal statement stands out, it shouldn't be hard for you to get an interview. I doubt they will even ride you that hard about your lower undergrad overall GPA as it was 12 years ago. Don't stress. Just study hard for the MCAT.

has anyone spoken with FSU this week?
I spoke with them and she said that the ADCOMM meet today but did not make a final decision on the hold applicants. She said "hopefully" we will hear something in the next week or two! (That seems soooo far away)

who did you talk to and when?

Well at least someone heard something 😀 and that would be GREAT if we hear something within the next two weeks!!!! I do wonder if they are waiting to see what happens to UF hold applicants cuz I heard they will be notified of their hold status this week. Good luck to everyone on hold! :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

I ask b/c I called after work and was told by the admissions front desk that they didn't meet today, and they hadn't meet in three weeks.

I spoke with "Shemi" in the admissions office around 3pm. She told me that they meet TODAY. I hope she wasn't just telling me anything.

No offense, but I don't think the women at the front desk knows whats going on....cuz when I asked her questions about hold applicants she even said she didn't know lol. I am not sure who Shemi is, but I have previously emailed Rhonda Collins and she has been pretty helpful but I haven't spoken with her about the ADCOM meeting this week.

Yeah I think shemi is the woman at the front desk. I couldn't take it any more so I called around 3:30, and when I come to post I see they told Docturk something completely different. I'm going crazy with FSU. We called 30 minutes apart and heard two completely different things.

Wait-tastic said:
can someone confirm who shemi is?

OK I'll answer my own post. Shemi is not the woman at the front desk. this woman's name is Rolland. Who will have some new information to give to callers. Speaking to a higher up, I have been told, and assured that the committee has been meeting, but they haven't finished ranking us. (I know we've gone over ranking of the wailist before). We should as docturk said be hearing something soon. sorry for highjacking the thread.

Wow, this is really depressing! I am baffled as to why she would provide totally different information to different people. Maybe someone elso should call and see what she says.....we will take the best two out of three as the correct answer.

Keep smiling!!!! Goodluck

well, i was at the med school this afternoon and I physically watched the dean of admissions leave at 5ish so i dont know if they met or not. I think that waiting for the UF decisions makes sense.

I want to believe the second person I talked to. Not just because she said what I wanted to here (that in fact they had been meeting), but she just inspired more confidence.

🙄 come on UF send out those letters. 😀

I don't really know if it matters if they meet or not. They could just be going down a list. I have heard so many different things I dont know how anything is being done. UF needs to accept a bunch of people. that'd be cool.

i called the office today to ask about updates on hold applicants, and the lady told me that the committe had not been meeting and that the hold list had not been made into a ranked waiting list yet. seems a little ridiculous...considering we're well past that original april 15th deadline to accept, seems like they should know how many spots are open...ah well.

I wouldn't believe anything you've been told by the woman at the front desk. I know I don't.

😍 to all your lovely pictures guys! I've been trying to stay busy w/finals and all and stay off this thread.. :scared:
I've got bad news that the BRIDGE program is out of the picture if anyone was considering it. They already had interviews for it. It's just a straight acceptance from the hold list for us now. Hopefully, we hear something--someday. :luck:

OK nothing new but we're all still in the running. One plus, I think, is that when they do start taking people off the waitlist acceptance are going to go out fast. If they started next week they'd only have a month. If half of the class comes from the waitlist, (which we could reasonably expect) that's 50 acceptance in 30 days. :luck: :luck: :luck:

oh and about the Bridge thing...I think they did extra interviews for that for people who werent already interviewed, but you can still be invited to Bridge if you interviewed at the regular time as well. I THINK.

How do you guys know about the Bridge acceptances?

I have a friend in med school there.

Oh, I assumed that they selected the bridge program participants from the main applicant pool. I didn't know that they performed specific interviews for the program.....thanks for the info.

To the best of my knowledge, they pick students to be invited to the Bridge program from the regular applicant pool. But I was also told some weeks ago that they were almost finished deciding who they would invite for next year.
I can't believe we didn't hear anything this week. Has anyone called recently and asked whether the class is still full? That is the crucial info we need to have. If the class is still full we wouldn't have a reason to expect a call. If anyone of you guys knows an answer to this question, pls post it here.

I don't know if it's safe to assume they will start pulling ppl from the WL next week. I don't know what's going on.

Sorry for the pessimism.

You know what's funny? I wrote the post above using a computer in my library and didn't realized it was automatically signed in with another person's name. I'm doing a post-bach at drexel, in case you were wondering why the "2007 Drexel Student" at the bottom.

Sorry Drexel girl...it most be with that avatar.

Hey guys, I'm pretty sure that the UF committee has gotten together and accepted the batch of kids off the hold list. The letters should be sent out to them soon meaning decisions will have to be made regarding FSU.

why is waiting so hard?

It IS extremely hard to sit and wait for an answer!!!
Come on FSU show some movement!
👍

Well, it's 4:30 on friday afternoon....still no word from FSU 😕
Maybe someone will get good news next week 😀

Next week would be nice. I just wish we had some idea as to what was going on.

I'm really starting to doubt that we will hear soon. I think either: a) they are waiting until UF notifies their hold applicants or b)we won't hear after the May 15th deadline because I think FSU is the only option for several applicants and they are hoping to get taken off the waitlist at other schools. The good news is UF is supposed to be notifying their hold applicants relatively soon and the may 15th deadline will be here before we know it!! :luck:
