So, I'm actually glad to be asking about how to get a job and not how to get a residency.

I have several interviews set up and I know I should prepare myself because this was what I've been working up towards all these years, right?

Questions:
1. How is the interview for a job? Did you guys find it similar to the residency interview?

2. Any repetitive questions that were asked by the job interviews you've been to?

3. What are jobs looking for? Qualities that I should make sure they know about?

Or am I just being a worry wart? Should I just treat it like any other job interview I've had in my life?

You are a board eligible emergency medicine phsyician from a 4 year program. You are HIGHLY desirable...

I think the answer to the above questions is partly dependent on where you are looking. If its a 'popular place', fit and finess maybe more important as there could be many applicants. Most places are happy just to have a BE physician looking into them...

I was at a 4 year program, was a chief my 4th year, and had moonlit a ton my last two years. The places I talked to or ended up visiting were most impressed with being from a 4 year program and my moonlighting experience.

The fact that I was a chief was not hardly mentioned. I am sure that would have been different had I been looking at pure academic programs.

I think the key is to relax, ask the important questions like... how are admissions handled? How is the backup/what services are here? How are nights/weekends/holidays handled? How are transfers handled? Do you have any new hires (these people are the ones you want to call/email after the fact to see how they really like it and were things 'as advertised'.)... otherwise, be yourself and friendly to everyone you meet.

Remember, you will generally have the 'upper hand' during this process....
