Hi everyone! I graduate/ finish my pre-reqs in about a year and a half and will begin applying to PT programs. However, I need some advice about observation hours. I have already completed some shadowing hours; however, I was offered an opportunity to be an RBT (registered behavior technician) at a school for disabled children. I have always had my mind set on earning hours as a rehab technician to make my application more competitive.... Should I take the RBT route or will PT schools rather see rehab tech hours?

I appreciate any tips! Good luck on apps. 🙂
As I finished up my undergrad, I had over 100 hours of observation in various settings. Unfortunately, I was not accepted to PT school first round, so began second round apps in June/July of this summer. I was able to secure a volunteer PT position in my hometown in the meantime, but not a paying Tech position (high demand). So to supplement this part time volunteer spot, I have taken on an RBT paying gig. In my situation, the extra hours working with kids, and using my Psyc minor will not hurt my apps, and prob help.

But, in your case, you definitely will eventually need over 100 hours of observation in various settings. RBT will not substitute for those hours. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply! I greatly appreciate your feedback! However, I am in the process of getting observation from various settings. So I guess my question is RBT or Rehab Tech to supplement those? Thank you again 🙂

I hope the interview goes well for you! Do you mind sharing your interview experience with UNE? I applied there mid September but have not heard from them yet.

So, I went yesterday and basically you get there and for a couple hours they have bunch of people talk about the school and what it offers. Next, a few current students have a Q&A. Then the group of candidates was split up into two based on the letter that’s on your name tag and one group goes to interview the other goes for campus tour. Then vice versa. Interview was with 4 other people, but it’s not typical questions. They give you a sheet of paper and you have 5 minutes to brainstorm two different scenarios given on that sheet. One is about what quality is best for PT to have, one is about ethics regarding patient-clinician relationships. Basically they wanna see how everyone discusses the scenarios for 15 min each. Very chill and just be yourself and definitely speak up and make sure they remember you.

I applied September 10th and had heard back on September 13th with the interview invite.

Hi! When did you submit your application to/hear back from Nova Ft. Lauderdale? I have similar stats and I am hoping to hear back from them soon!
I sent my PTCAS in on September 19th, a couple days later I received the NSU supp application and then about three weeks after that I received an e-mail with my acceptance. Just yesterday I received a physical copy of my acceptance in the mail as well.

Thank you! The information you provided is really detailed and helpful! I am wondering about how many people they interviewed on that day?

All observation hours must be supervised by a PT. If your RBT hours are not supervised by a PT, they will not count.

Nothing yet. Their email said they have a couple of interview dates, one in November for 'highly qualified' candidates and then another one in January. They said they will let people know about the November interview towards the end of October! Maybe I'll see you there!

The only one I applied to in this list is University of Indianapolis, and I have not heard back yet. I emailed someone at UIndy and they said that applicants should hear back around mid-October 😀 I'm getting anxious too!
Has anyone heard back from any of these DPT programs regarding an Interview, acceptance, or denial:
Indiana State University, Southwest Baptist, Mizzou, Missouri State University, University of Indianapolis, Rockhurst, Bradley, Arkansas State University, or Harding University ?
I applied to UIndy and got an invitation to interview on October 5th for Nov. 16th. I submitted my application super early though so I'm sure there's still sending them out!

I heard back from U Indy last week, but I know some applicants heard back weeks before me (not sure if it was early admissions apps)
Are you interviewing? I have one set for Nov. 16th, maybe we'll both be at the same one

Hello! I received an invitation for an interview today for 11/30!
That's exciting! I did as well! Do you know if everyone interviews the same day? I wasn't expecting to hear back until later because past posts I've seen have mentioned end of November to receive any notice.

Hey. Hunter is also my top school. Let me know when you hear back from them! Good luck on your applications.

Congrats on the interviews! I will be interviewing at UMB. Could you share any helpful information about how their interview day went for you? Thanks!

Hey sure and congrats on your interview! So I found that it was soo chill. You get there and for a half hour you just talk with other candidates in the room and then staff come in and you can talk to them and ask questions. Then for a couple hours they have PowerPoint info sessions on vision and goals of the program, curriculum, financial aid and housing. Then you have an hour lunch with the first year students and it’s a q&a session and also the A&P professor who is extremely funny chats with the whole group and makes everyone ask a question. Then it’s the interviews with two or three other people in your group. They ask 5 questions not hard at all. I remember one was what is the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten and another one was describe your least favorite professor. Quite conversational. Then everyone meets up again and you have the option to go on a tour of the campus. Very very cool school and program.

I heard back from Marymount for an invitation to interview on October 10th! They’re sending the information regarding the interview process on October 31st so I’m sure they’ll send some more invites out at the beginning of this coming week.

Hey!

Congrats on your acceptance to APU. Can I ask what your #1 school is?
Thank you! To be honest, I really wanted to go to APU since it's a great program and also, fairly cheap compared to other programs. However, CSU Long Beach certainly would be nice since it's closer to my house and a lot cheaper! I'm also a huge USC fan so we'll see!

I heard back from High Point on 10/5 for an interview that I went to on 10/19. I think they were just starting their interviews so hopefully you hear from them soon!!

Dr. Dough, I submitted my PTCAS application on Sept. 23rd, but I didn't have my supplemental application submitted by Ms. Kim until Oct. 10 due to some complications. I was wondering what the timeline was on you hearing back from them about an interview? Thanks!
