Hey guys,

So I received this email from UCF a while back in regards to tuition, and I wanted to ask everyone's sincere opinion about this.

Do you guys think it would be worth going to UCF if you got charged out of state tuition? The difference between in state and out of state tuition is huge. The worst part is that they stated that once you get charged as in state or out of state, you will be charged as is for the entire duration of your schooling.

I didn't realize that this was how they managed the tuition and it has me wondering whether it's worth the out of state tuition if I were to get accepted. 🙁

We are currently in the process of reviewing applications for admission for 2015-2016 and we wanted to provide you with information regarding your residency and how it applies to tuition rates at the University of Central Florida. Our records show your permanent address as being outside the state of Florida and as such, you will be charged out-of-state tuition rates should you be accepted into the program.

Current tuition* for the program is as follows:

Year 1 (45 credit hours) - $25,919.55 for in-state students and $63,017.55 for out-of-state students

Year 2 (40 credit hours) - $23,039.60 for in-state students and $56,015.60 for out-of-state students

Year 3 (27 credit hours) - $15,551.73 for in-state students and $37,810.53 for out-of-state students

Total Program Tuition Cost - $64,510.88 for in-state students and $156,843.68 for out-of-state students

*Tuition and fees are subject to change.
To be considered a Florida resident for tuition purposes, you must show proof of residency for at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you wish to enroll in so that you can be considered for Florida residency for tuition purposes. Furthermore, you must establish that your presence or, if you are a dependent child, the presence of your parent or parents in the state currently is, and during the requisite 12-month qualifying period was, for the purpose of maintaining a bona fide domicile in the State of Florida, rather than for the purpose of maintaining a mere temporary residence or abode incident to enrollment at the university.

In simpler terms, once you begin a program in the state of Florida as an out-of-state student that is the tuition rate you will be charged for the ENTIRETY of the program (3 years for the DPT program)."

I'm not applying to UCF, but I do have this same concern with one of the schools I am applying to. See below... this was taken directly from the UC-Denver site. I'd bet that the state of Florida is very similar if not the same in this regard, but I'd do some research just in case. My opinion is that paying that 150K would be crazy, but if you really want to go there, I'd try to do everything you can to get that residency for years 2 & 3 and save yourself over 50K. Hopefully this helps! Best of luck!

*Incoming Doctor of Physical Therapy students assessed non-resident tuition upon admission, should review the requirements for obtaining residency, and arrange to meet these requirements in order to be assessed resident tuition after their first year.

I honestly think it is up to you and how you value the education you will get from there. Columbia is wayyyyyy out of my budget and I struggled for a long time with the acceptance to see if it was worth it. There are often options to help you pay and scholarships you can apply for to help you out. If this is your dream.. I say listen to yourself and go for it. If you have other acceptances and can see yourself being just as successful and have a stimulating experience somewhere else you should listen to that too.

INTERVIEW, "REJECTION"

I say, "REJECTION," because there was a mistake on my part. Clearly, I didn't read the prereq requirements for Western. And none of the schools that I have previously attended offered a General Chemistry sequence that was not organic or biochemistry. Whoops.

"In processing your application we found that you have not yet completed an approved General Chemistry with laboratory sequence. We will not accept Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry courses in place of a General or Inorganic Chemistry sequence. This means that you will need to complete an approved course sequence to satisfy the prerequisite. Because you will be unable to do so by December 31, 2015 you will no longer be eligible as we only permit one course to be in progress for the Winter/Spring term."
Aside from that, good news from one of my top picks.

Have you verified with your top schools (and gotten it in writing) that they will accept Orgo/Bio for the pre reqs too? I'm very worried for you that this might be the case at more than just the one school listed above...and most schools aren't nice enough to tell you why you are rejected.

does anybody know when Temple, Drexel and University of South Florida will get back to applicants by? I sent my apps in in September and still haven't heard anything. Another school I got accepted to wants an answer by tomorrow, and idk how to compare it due to not even hearing back from other schools.

I looked into most of the prerequisite descriptions for my schools and emailed a handful of advisors for additional clarification. The general consensus seemed to be that an ochem or biochem sequence will satisfy the chemistry prerequisite - some advisors even told me to specifically indicate the higher level biochem sequence. The issue that I ran into with Western U was that they only accept one prerequisite for winter and spring. Since the general chemistry I had previously taken was not part of a sequence, I would need to do at least two additional courses.

I definitely overlooked this... but I'm trying to stay optimistic!

University: University of Florida

Observation Hours: 132 outpatient orthopedic
Applying to: Shenandoah U, Marymount
Interview: Shenandoah, 11/21; Marymount: 1/23
Acceptances: Shenandoah (12/8)

I'm probably screwed bc I only applied to 2 schools, but my fiance has an established practice and we cannot move from this area. My fingers are crossed.

I am so unbelievably thrilled. I was so scared that my non-health background and small amount of volunteer hours (and my ability to only apply to 2 schools) would screw me over, but things are turning out all right. SO EXCITED!!!! The work I've put in has been worth it :soexcited::claps:

I am posting this to give hope to people who had a rough beginning track record in college but turned it all around in hopes to be a PT. I worked my ass off the last 2.5 years to make my dream come true, so can you! I am taking 4 courses currently online to boost my overall GPA since PTCAS murdered my chances. If I get all A's, my overall will be a 3.01, not great but I think my essays and prereqGPA make up for this.

Can anyone let me know how they think my chances would be for some of these schools? I am from Jersey and now I kind of don't want to go too far. I have a boyfriend and am close with my family; thinking I want to be 4 hours tops away from home... But I also don't want to sacrifice going to a good program for distance issues 🙁 ...... I'm so excited to start school though if I am accepted somewhere!

UPDATE: Interview: Methodist University (1/22), Emory & Henry (12/4) (declined)
Rejection: Marshall U

Also, I am finishing up 4 courses and my overall GPA will be around a 3.01 for the academic update.

Can anyone tell me if it's unwise to apply to Temple U this late in the game?

does anybody know when Temple, Drexel and University of South Florida will get back to applicants by? I sent my apps in in September and still haven't heard anything. Another school I got accepted to wants an answer by tomorrow, and idk how to compare it due to not even hearing back from other schools.
I read somewhere on USF's website that they will get back to us in the beginning of February.

Just curious as to why you haven't gotten accepted yet. Most of your stats are higher then mine as far as GRE, observation hours, and even your pre-req GPA. Is it the interview process? I just don't get it.

This is really strange.. I have 2 more science courses to take for WesternU as well, to remain eligible for admission consideration. However, they said it's doable as long as they're both taken in quarter system campuses, and completed by June 2016. I've been approved to take both science courses in Spring 2016 quarter. Maybe ask Alberto Espejo if you could take the first Chem class in Winter 2016 quarter, and the second Chem class in Spring 2016 quarter. If it's worth the hassle for you, of course!

Yes, temple has already filled their class. I recently had an interview scheduled then asked for a phone interview because I couldn't drive 3 states over for another interview the next day, the admissions Chair told me yes but he couldn't guarantee me a spot. I followed up with him and he said there was no point to interview me anymore because the Clas has been entirely filled up.

Very excited to be offered a spot at Shenandoah!! I will most likely be sending in my deposit in the next few days. I liked the small class size and the amazing facilities at this school. The faculty all seemed personable and friendly. I had a great interview experience and really enjoyed talking to current students. I like the fact that you are able to do part-time rotations beginning in the first year and, later on, 3 full rotations. I was also drawn to this program for the Performing Arts Medicine Certificate program they offer! Overall, everything seems like a great fit for me.

To everyone on here, thanks for your insight and personal stories. It has helped tremendously throughout this whole process. Best of luck to all!

Wow I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you! That's a shame... Thank you for letting me know this! I only wasted $27 sending my GRE score so you saved me the $40 to send my app and the amount for their supplemental app! I hope you get in somewhere great. 🙂

No problem, thank you! You as well.

Anyone know when Ohio state sends acceptances?
I got an email about a month ago inviting me to a Preview Day. They sent first round acceptances the week of Thanksgiving, which brought their number of offered acceptances to 40/48. I got deferred to the January decision, where they will either accept or waitlist me. They said last year they used over half the wait list. If you didn't get that email, I'm afraid I don't think the news is very good...maybe you'll be considered with the January decision applicants?

Wow, that's a bummer. I didn't expect to get in but I atleast expected to hear back with a notice atleast. Have you gotten in anywhere?

I've only had one interview in the past. These Washington state schools are really frustrating. I managed to make the UPS alternate list my first try, but nobody was admitted from the alternates that year. Last year, I missed the cutoff for wait listed applicants at UW by one point based on their application scoring system. And I haven't had any luck with Eastern - they don't even provide feedback
so it's hard to see what how I can appeal to them.

This is really strange.. I have 2 more science courses to take for WesternU as well, to remain eligible for admission consideration. It's a bummer for sure, but I'm hoping to hear some better news from the handful of schools that I applied to. I wasn't offered an opportunity to make a contingency plan so I'm probably not going to pursue Northwestern. Were you offered admission?

I interviewed at Temple on 11/20 if that helps

yeah I heard of a lot of people who interviewed with them in November. I heard that they do multiple rounds of interviews so I'm assuming the second and/or third round will be coming up this month or next month. I'm just being so impatient!
